Into the Future finished second, and the Nick Zito-trained Howlin Mad Smith came in third.
That left Zito still with 1,999 careers wins.
He has two horses entered at Gulfstream on Friday. They are Knight Errant in the third race and Lookin at Blessing in the tenth race. Nik Juarez is scheduled to ride both horses.
Amaze, trained by Todd Pletcher, won the one-mile dirt race in 1:38.48. It was a $12,500 maiden claiming race for 4-year-olds and up.
Zito has three wins, one second place finish and one third place finish in 13 starts at the Gulfstream championship meet.
He is a member of racing's Hall of Fame. He has trained two Kentucky Derby winners--Strike the Gold in 1991 Go for Gin in 1994. He also won the Florida Derby twice, with Ice Box in 2010 and Dialed In in 2011.
