A Look At the Haskell

The Haskell  is  coming up at 5:44 p.m.

Monmouth Park  usually  favors speed.

Today, we think several  speed horses could burn themselves out.

We like an exacta box of  Timeline (3) Practical Joke (4) and Hence (6).

Rainbow 6 Starts with Win by 17-1 Shot

Dakota Eyes, at 17-1, held off a late run by Solfatara  to win by a length in Sunday's  sixth race at Gulfstream.

Pillango, the3-2 favorite won the seventh race.

Sunday is only the second day of a Rainbow 6 cycle. The carryover coming in was $9,050  Bettors added $45.998 to the pool.

New Pool for Gulfstream Rainbow 6

Rainbow 6 Opener Won By 9-2 Shot

Kroy, at 9-2,won Gulfstream's seventh race to  start Saturday's Rainbow  6.

Bettors put $37,716 into a new Rainbow 6 pool.

We will be back after the 12th and final  race with a recap of the Rainbow  6 and the day's other  Gulfstream races.

Today's Rainbow 6 follows two  days when there was just one ticket with all six winners in the Rainbow 6 races--thus taking down the jackpot.

On Thursday, the  payoff was $436,076 on the 20-cent only bet.  The payoff  included a carryover of $350,000  that had built up  over 15 straight days when there were multiple tickets with the winners of all Rainbow 6 races.
On Friday, bettors put $20,415 into  a new Rainbow  6 pool. Following a 20 percent takeout, the winning ticket received $20,316 on a 20 cent  bet.

Fast Time on Turf for Gulfstream Opener

Recalibrating, at 4-1, beat Giant's Voice, at 5-1.  in Saturday's first race at Gulfstream Park.

With Luca Panici riding,  Recalibrating won the 1 1/16 mile turf  race in 1:41.95 on the turf course listed as firm. It was  a $10.000 claiming race with an $18,000 purse.

The time  was fast for that  class of  horses,  continuing a  recent  trend on the turf course during a  period with  little rain.

Skies are  clear at  Gulfstream. The dirt track is  listed as fast and has been sealed in anticipation of rain.

The Weather  Channel  forecast is for  a 35 percent  chance of  thunderstorms from 3:00 p.m. onward.

Fast and Firm at Gulfstream on Thursday

Conditions  are fast and firm on Thursday for a  10-race card at Gulfstream Park, with first post of  1:15 p.m.

The Weather  Channel  forecast is for just a  15 percent  chance of rain during racing hours. Five of the Thursday races are scheduled  for  turf, and are likely to  stay on that surface.

All ten races are claiming, including five maiden claimers.

But the card offers large  fields. Following morning scratches, there are 91 scheduled starters.

Another attraction is a Rainbow 6 carryover  that  has grown to $350,510. There are  59 starters  listed for the Rainbow 6 .

The Rainbow 6 is a 20-cent only bet. It is on races five through ten, with the sequence
scheduled to start at 3:26 p.m.

Gulfstream: Large Fields for Thursday Card

All ten of the races will be claiming, including five for maiden claimers, when Gulfstream Park resumes racing on Thursday at 1:15 p.m.

But a Rainbow 6 carryover of $350,510 and some large fields will provide excitement for bettors—at the track in Hallandale Beach, Fla., and in simulcast-ADW land.

The ten races have 98 entrants, including one main-track-only and four also eligibles.

The Rainbow 6 is on races five through ten, with 65 entrants including four AEs.

Thursday will be the 16th day of Gulfstream’s Summer meet, and the 15th day with a Rainbow 6 carryover.

There have been no days with just one ticket that has all six Rainbow 6 winners, and thus taking down the jackpot of the full carryover and 80 percent of the day’s new Rainbow 6 bets.

On Sunday, there were 94 tickets with all six Rainbow 6 winners.  Each received $705.20 om the 20-cent only bet.

Bettors added $118,935 to the Rainbow 6 pool. Following its 20 percent takeout, Gulfstream divided 56 percent among the winning tickets and added 24 percent to the carryover.

The tenth race on Thursday is typical of the handicapping challenges that Gulfstream general manager P.J Campo and his racing office staff like to present in the last leg of the Rainbow 6.

It is 7 ½ furlongs on turf for 3-year-olds and up. The claiming price is $10,000 and the purse is $19.000.

The race has 15 entrants, with several horses that are dropping in class and several last-out winners.

*The Gulfstream Condition Book shows only one stakes race during the upcoming Thursday-to-Sunday race week.

The $50,000 Added Elegance is seven furlongs on dirt for fillies and mares 3-years-old and up that have never won a stakes race that is open (i.e.  does not have restrictions such as Florida-breds only).
