BAUER'S BETS: Fast & Firm at Tampa

A competitive field of four year-olds and up will travel nine grassy furlongs under $16,000 Starter
Handicap conditions in Race 8. Post time is scheduled for 4:13 PM.

DOMAIN (7) is very sharp now for trainer Mike Dini, being three for three in the money on the Tampa Turf this season. His speed figures have improved in each race and he scored at this distance on the Oldsmar lawn back on December 28. Tomas Mejia rode this one to a good second place finish in his last outing vs. similar rivals and returns today. Should be a decent price at 6/1 on the morning line.

THE BET $20 to win on DOMAIN (7) and a $2 exacta box with FAST FIRE (1) and HOPE AGAIN (3). 1,3,7. Total Bet $32  GOOD LUCK!!

PREVIOUS RESULTS  2/28  Lost $28, the bank roll is now minus $218.60

Gulfstream Rainbow 6 Pool Starts at $468,945

Roman Empire (1), at 3-5, won Friday's fifth race at Gulfstream Park to start the Rainbow 6.

It was the start of a new Rainbow 6 pool, and bettors put $163,562 into  it. Gulfstream had guaranteed that the pool would be at least $100,000.

On Thursday, there was just one ticket with all six winners in the Rainbow 6, and it  took  down a jackpot of  $468,945.

Gulfstream Rainbow 6 Hit for $468,945

There  was just one ticket with all  six winning horses in the Rainbow  6 at Gulfstream Park on Thursday.

That ticket paid $468,945 on the 20-cent per combination only bet.

That consisted of the entire coming in carryover of $268,253  and  80 percent on Thursday's  Rainbow 6 bet of  $263,255  (20 percent  takeout).

Gulfstream will begin a new Rainbow 6 cycle on Friday, with the track guaranteeing that the pool will be  at least  $100,000.

The Rainbow 6 will be on races five through ten, with the sequence scheduled to start  at  3:03 p.m.

Program numbers for Thursday's winning horses were 9-5-2-6-5-6.  Odds for  the winners ranged from 2-1 to  11-1.

The carryover had grown because Gulfstream had gone five  race days without the jackpot  payoff requirement of just one ticket with all six winners

BAUER'S BETS: Fast & Firm at Tampa

Sophomore Fillies sprint five furlongs on the lawn under $75,000 NW1X conditions, in Race 7. Post time is 3:46 PM.

SILVER BANK (5) appears to be a Filly with a future on the green, winning a Maiden Special event in her first turf attempt. This Mike Stidham trainee (29% winners in Tampa) overcame being bumped at the start and split rivals three-wide to score by a neck and log the fastest five furlong time in this field. Top tier turf rider Pablo Morales returns, should run even better with a smooth trip.

THE BET $10 to win on SILVER BANK (5) and a $3 exacta box with SOLID AS A ROCK (8) and NORMA'S LOVE (2)  2,5,8  Total Bet $28
GOOD LUCK!!

PREVIOUS RESULTS  Win bet paid out $52, missed the exacta. A profit of $20 for the day. The bankroll is now minus $190.60.

BAUER'S BETS: Fast & Firm at Tampa

Race 5 features four year-olds and up going a mile and forty yards on the main track, under $40,000 NW2X Optional Claiming conditions. Post time is 2:45 PM.

NAVY ARMED GUARD (2) is in top form since going back on dirt on January 4, in an off the turf event. He won that day by five lengths and then was a good second vs. a salty field of $100,000 Optional Claimers, on February 7. This Joan Scott trainee has late pace ability and should benefit as there are a few need to lead types in this field. Keeping this one on the dirt appears to be an astute training move. Veteran rider Scott Spieth returns.

THE BET  $20 to win on NAVY ARMED GUARD (2) and a $2 exacta box with TWOCUBANBROTHERSU (3) and D'CRAZINESS (1). 1,2,3. Total Bet $32. GOOD LUCK!!

PREVIOUS RESULTS  2/23  The chalky win bet returned $34, missed the exacta. The profit is $2 for the day. Bankroll is minus $210.60.

Rainbow 6: Halfway Home With No Favorites as Winners

Gulfstream Park is halfway through Sunday's Rainbow 6, and thus far all three winners have been at single digit odds--but  none were favorites.

The winners with program numbers in parentheses and fnal  odds were:

6th race --    Linny Kate (11) 3-1
7th race  --  Finding Fame  (3) 7-1
8th race --     Blanket of Roses (7)  4-1

Unless any  long shots come in, payoffs should be strong but not  life changing.

The  50 cent Pick  3 on races 6 to 8 paid $141.25.

The  February  trend of   large pools on the late milti-race bets continued

Rainbow 6 - $313,321

BAUER'S BETS: Fast & Firm, Stakes Doubleheader at Tampa

Fans of speed on the green are in for a treat today, as the Downs features a pair of $100,000, five furlong turf stakes.

Race 6 is the Turf Dash Stakes with four year-olds and up. Post time is 3:15 PM.

JUSTAHOLIC (10) is the choice in a very competitive affair. He earned a lifetime best turf figure in a (four plus lengths) win in a Stakes race at Monmouth in late September. Should be ready to roll, has won fresh in the past. Logged six local works for trainer Tom Clark, including three "bullets". Regular rider Jose Ferrer returns. A repeat of his last race wins here.

THE BET  $20 to win on JUSTAHOLIC (10) and a $10 exacta box with EXTRAVAGANT KID (8). 8,10. Also a $1 trifecta box with those two and PAY ANY PRICE (1) and FACTION CAT (6).  1,6,8,10.  Total Bet $64.

RACE 8 showcases older Fillies and Mares in the Lightning City Stakes with the same purse and distance. Post time is 4:15 PM.

JO JO AIR (1) is very sharp now for conditioner Wesley Ward, well known for success with turf sprinters. She showed quality in her last race at Gulfstream, overcoming a slow start (last in a field of six, at five furlongs) to win and record a lifetime best turf figure. Last season's top jock Samy Camacho rides. Has a half-dozen works on the grass since December 26.

THE BET  $10 to win on JO JO AIR (1) and a $10 exacta box with JEAN ELIZABETH (9). 1,9. Also, a $2 exacta box with ESCAPADE (11). 1,9,11. Total Bet $ 42.

BAUER'S BETS: Fast & Firm at Tampa

Sophomores will travel a grassy mile under $40,000 Optional Claiming conditions in Race 5. Post time is 2:43 PM.

HATS OFF TOO YOU (6) earned the best turf figure in this field in a maiden-breaking performance at Gulfstream on January 30. He caught a loose on the lead rival going five furlongs in his first try on the lawn. There appears to be ample early speed here and it may set up for his late foot. Worked a bullet 5 furlongs on the weeds at Payson Park on February 15, 1.00 2/5. Daniel Centeno rides for Ryan Walsh.

THE BET  $20 to win on HATS OFF TO YOU (6)
and a $2 exacta box with HIGH HEATER (1) and  VALIANT VIRTUE (3).  1,3,6.   Total Bet $32
GOOD LUCK!!

PREVIOUS RESULTS:  2/19  The win bet finished second, had the exacta box. Collected $26.10 for the $28 bet, a loss of $1.90 for the day. The bankroll is minus $212.60

Gulfstream's Thursday's Racing; 1:00 Post Time

Gulfstream's Thursday card has ten races, with first post at 1:00 pm.

Gulfstream Park on Thursday starts a new pool in the Rainbow 6 and a carryover of $203,727 on the Late Pick 5.

We expect that betting on the late Pick 5 will be at least $500,000, perhaps as much as $1 million; mainly because of the absence of a caryover on the Rainbow 6.

The Rainbow, a combination 20 cent only bet, will be on races five through ten with the sequence set to start at 3:04 p.m.

The Late Pick 5, a 50 cent minum wager, will begin in race 6 near 3:35 p.m.

On Monday, Gulfstream's most recent race day, there emerged just one winning ticket in the Rainbow 6. So the jackpot was paid out. The payoff was $1,208,573.86 on a 20-cent bet.

That jackpot payoff consisted of the entire coming-in carryover of $866,698 plus 80 percent of the day's new Rainbow 6 bets (pool) of  $427,432.

The carryover had grown because Gulfstream went thirteen straight race days without the jackpot payoff requirement of just one Rainbow 6 ticket with all six winning horses.

Our database shows that the jackpot payout was the fourth largest on the Rainbow 6 since at least 2015.

So why was this handicap a hard one? Well, race 8's winner was a 75:1 odds horse named Scarto, who beat favorite Disc Jockey (4:5) by 1-1/4 lengths. Hector Berrios saddled the winner. Scarto has won two starts this year at Gulfstream, and is 2-1-0 in three starts career-wise. Not bad for a $7,000 auction price as a yearling!

Presidents Day Card Underway at Gulfstream .

The special Monday Presidents Day card is underway at Gulfstream  Park.

It is Gulfstream's fifth annual day  for locally stabled horses with a format similar  to the national  Claiming Crown for which it is the site early  each December.

The  Monday  card has a Rainbow 6 carryover of  $866,689.  The 20-cent per combination only bet is on races six to eleven with the sequence scheduled to start at 3:04 p.m.

.The  sixth race is $50,000 allowance at five furlongs on turf for 3-year olds.
.
The other races are all stakes with purses of either $50,000 or $60,000.  They are restricted to horses that have run at or  below designated claiming prices at least once in their careers.

The stakes races have names that are nicknames  of former U.S. presidents or  references  to U.S.  first ladies.

An example is the tenth race--the $60,000  Rail Splitter at  6 1/2 furlongs on dirt for 4-year-olds and up.

It is named for Abraham Lincoln.  The  eight-horse field has several entrants that have run in non-claiming crown like stakes at Gulfstream.

Because Gulfstream is holding a rare Monday race card, it  will not have live racing this Wednesday.  Feb.  19.

BAUER'S BETS: Fast & Firm at Tampa

There is a Stakes double header at the Downs today. Both events have large fields and present some good betting opportunities.

Race 8 is the $100,000 Pelican Stakes at six furlongs for four year-olds and up. Post time is scheduled for 3:59 PM.

KING HUMOR (4) should come back running here at 5/1 on the morning line. This son of DISTORTED HUMOR was a perfect four for four on dirt tracks with trainer Victor Barboza Jr in the spring of 2019. He then went to Ocala and raced on an artificial surface last November, under the care of another barn. He didn't run a lick, finishing last. Today, he is back with the Barboza outfit and has been working well and could be a tough customer here. Miami based rider Emisael Jaramillo, who has been victorious with this one in the past, ships in with the mount.

THE BET  $10 to win on KING HUMOR (4) and a $3 exacta box with KILLYBEGS CAPTAIN (7) and DEBBIE'S PASSION (2). 2,4,7 Total Bet $28.

MIDTOWN ROSE (6) ran a lifetime best figure at Gulfstream on December 20 after being rested for
two months. She ships in today after a similar break for trainer Saffie Joseph Jr., currently winning at a 43% clip in Tampa. A repeat of her last effort would beat this field. Samy Camacho rides, alot to like here.

THE BET  $10 to win on MIDTOWN ROSE (6) and a $3 exacta box with LADY'S ISLAND (3) and MOLTO BELLA (4). 3,4,6. TOTAL BET $28.

I'M CARDINAL (1) tries the Tampa turf and makes his first start since moving to the powerful Bennett barn after his last race on November 9. He has early foot and the inside post should help. Gulfstream Park  will  resume racing on Wednesday  with ten races and first post of 1:00 p.m

The Rainbow 6 carryover is $526,981.  The 20-cents per  combination bet will be  on races five through ten, with the sequence scheduled to start at  3:03 p.m.

The carryover has grown because Gulfstream has gone eight racing days with multiple tickets that had all six Rainbow 6 race  winners  During that period it has taken out 20 percent of each day's Rainbow 6 bet, divided 56 percent among  tickets that had six winners and added 24 percent to the carryover.

Gulfstream pays out the Rainbow 6 jackpot (80 percent of day' new bet plus all of the incoming carryover) only on days when there is justo ne ticket with all six winners.

Odds-on MrAtila Wins First Leg of Rainbow 6

Mr. Atila (6). at 4-5, won Gulfstream's  fifth race on Thursday to start the Rainbow 6.

The field had only four horses, due to scratches.  It is  certain that almost all bettors had Mr. Atila on tickets, and it is likely that many singled him.

Bettors added $214,687 to the Rainbow 6.  The carryover coming in was $234,194.

That adds up to just under  $449,000 thus enabling Gulfstream  to not put in money to achieve its  $400,000 guarantee
