Gulfstream Rainbow 6 Pool Starts at $85,583

By Jim Freer and Barry Unterbrink

Bacano (8), at 4-1, won Wednesday's  fifth race at Gulfstream Park, to start the Rainbow 6.

Betting on the Rainbow 6 was $85,583 as Gulfstream began a new pool on the 20-cent per combination only bet.

On Sunday, Gulfstream had a mandatory payout on a Rainbow 6  pool that had built up a carryover of $3,612,594 over 41  race days.

Over the final  three weeks of that carryover, Rainbow 6 wagering was more than $300,000 all but one day.

A drop-off was expected for the start of a new pool.

Bettors on Sunday added $10,675,583 to the Rainbow  6 pool,

Per its mandatory payout, Gulfstream distributed the full coming-in carryover and 80  percent of the day's  new  Rainbow 6  bet (20 percent  takeout) among  all tickets that had all six Rainbow race winners.

 Each winning ticket received $11,600.60.

Gulfstream  reported  that  there were "multiple winning tickets," but did not disclose  the number.

HorseRacingFLA's review of Equibase charts showed there were 1,047 winning Rainbow 6 tickets.

On non-mandatory days,  Gulfstream  pays out the Rainbow 6  carryover and 80  percent of the new bet only if there is just one ticket with all six Rainbow 6  wniners.

On  non-mandatory days with multiple winning  tickets, Gulfstream  takes out  20 percent of  the day's Rainbow 6 bet. It then divides  56 percent p among the tickets with six  winners and adds  24  ptcent to the carryuver/

Blazing  Desire (5), at 5-2, took an early lead and went on to win Gulfstream's sixth race on Sunday.

It was the start of the Rainbow 6, with a mandatory payout--no  matter the number of tickets with all six winning horses.

Our suggested Rainbow 6 ticket is among those that are done after just one race.  Our two horses were Dazzling Dunhill (4)  and Vintage Kitten (6). They finished second and fourth, respectively.

Rainbow 6 Opener Won By 7-2 Shot

Deckology (1), at 7-2, rallied to beat the 4-5 faorite  R Man Joe (4) by  a length in Friday's fifth race at Gulfstream.

The race was the start of the Rainbow 6. Due to rain early today. Gulfstream moved that race from turf to dirt along with three other Rainbow 6  races--six, eight and ten.

Because of  scratches, betting on the Rainbow  6  was $289,230--relatively low for the current cycle in which the Rainbow 6 carryover is 39 days old.

The carryover coming in was $3,205,199.

Added to today's bet, the pool is $3,494,429.

Gulfstream had guaranteed that today's pool would be  at least $4 million if there is just one winning ticket that takes down the jackpot.  If that happens (unlikely with reduced fields) Gulfstream would need to put in just over $500,000.

In an upcoming post we will look at how the Rainbow 6 will fit into Saturday's Pegasus card and what's in store for Sunday  when there will be a mandatory payout of the jackpot/carryover--no matter the number of tickets with the winners of all six Rainbow 6 races.

GP: Mandatory Rainbow 6 Payoff on Sunday; Carryover Will Be $3.3 Million on Thursday

By Jim Freer and Barry Unterbrink

Gulfstream Park announced on Monday that it will have a mandatory payout on its Rainbow  carryover on Sunday Jan. 26.

The carryover is $3,133,994 through Monday, and that is raising prospects that the pool could be $15 million or  more on "mandatory day."

On Sunday, Gulfstream will pay out the entire coming-in carryover plus 80 percent of the day's new bets on the Rainbow 6.

Through Monday's races, the special Martin Luther King  holiday  card, the carryover is  38 days.old.  That is the entire length, thus far, of Guilfstream's 2019-2020 championship meet that began Nov. 29.

On most days, Gulfstream pays out the carryover and 80 percent of the new Rainbow 6 bet only on days when there is just one ticket with all six Rainbow 6  winners,

On Monday there were 187 Rainbow 6  tickets with all six winners. Each was paid $1,421.20 on the 20-cents per combination only bet.

Program numbers of the winning horses were 3-4-3-11-4-8. Dr. Shane, at 12-1 in the eighth race, was the only Rainbow 6  winner  at double digit odds.

Per its rules for days with multiple tickets with all six winners. Gulfstream took out 20 percent of the Rainbow 6 bet. It then divided 56 percent of that bet among tickets with six winners and added 24  percent to the carryover.

After its holiday racing card on Monday, Gulfstream will not have live racing this Wednesday.

It will resume racing this Thursday with  ten races and first post of 12:35 p.m. The Rainbow 6 will  beon races five through ten,. with the sequence scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m.

It will race again on Friday and on Saturday, which is Pegasus World Cup Day and will likely have more than $3 million in total handle with several million on the Rainbow 6.

The large carryover is attracting numerous betting syndicates who are "going deep" in several legs of the Rainbow 6. That apparently is making it difficult for one bettor to be the only one to find a longshot winner that would :take down the Rainbow 6.

Even if the Rainbow 6 is "taken down" by a single ticket before Sunday, it will attract perhaps $1 million or more that day.

If the carryover is still there for Sunday, it could be as high as $5 million  In that case, Gulfstream is saying that Rainbow 6 handle could be in the $10 million range--mirroring several other mandatory payoff days on the Rainbow 6  at  Gulfstream.

Rainbow 6 Coming Up on MLK Day

The fifth race is coming up at  Gulfstream Park to start the Rainbow 6  on the special Martin Luther King day  card.

The carryover is $3,020,200.  Gulfstream  has guaranteed that the pool will be at least $4 million.

Scheduled   post is 2:34 p.m. But look for it to be several  minutes later than that.

One reason will be an extra special desire of Gulfstream management to milk the clock and bring in as much wagering as they can and push the pool above $4 mll ticketlion without Gulfstream money.

The guarantee means there would be at least $4 million in the pool if there is just one ticket with  all six Rainbow  6  winning horses.

That hasnot happened in the first  37  odays of,the champinship  meet.  We  look for that to continue today, unless there are at least  two longshot winners

Sunday, January 19, 2020

Declaration Warrior (10), at 5-1, won Sunday's sixth race at Gulfstream to start the Rainbow 6.

Bettors added $683,964 to the Rainbow 6.

The carryover coming in was $2,856,098 and has built up over 36 days.

That makes the pool  $3,540,062--meaning Gulfstream will not have to put in money to meet its guarantee of $3.5 million.

Rainbow 6 Coming Up at Gulfstream

The  sixth  race is coming up at Gulfstream to start the Rainbow  6.

Scheduled post is 2:32 p.m.

The carryover coming in is $2,856,098.

Gulfstream has guaranteed that the pool will be at least $3.5 million.

She then shipped to Tampa and scored for Granitz with Willie Martinez up. They have the same situation today at 10/1 morning line. She has four wins on the Tampa turf in seven attempts.

THE BET $10 to win on LADY LOVE (3) and a $2 exacta box with MARMALADE (9) and PURE SUGAR (2). 2,3,9  Total Bet $22  GOOD LUCK!!

PREVIOUS RESULTS  1/18  Bet $66, collected $32, lost $34 for the day. The bankroll is minus $175.

The carryover coming in was $2,675,393.  Bettors added $753,256 to the Rainbow 6 pool.

That combination adds up to $3,428,649. Gulfstream had guaranteed that the pool would be at least $3.5 million. Thus it will need to put in just under $80,000 if  there is jusr one ticket with the winners of all six Rainbow  races.

BAUER'S BETS: Fast & Firm, Triple Stakes at Tampa Today

Stakes action starts in Race 3 at 1:45 PM with the $125,000 Pasco Stakes for sophomores at seven furlongs.

NO GETTING OVER ME (4) is a good bet here. He has the home track advantage, winning a Maiden Special event by almost ten lengths and then running second in the Inaugural after a balky start. Logged a bullet 5 furlong work January 9, 1.00.4 breezing from the gate. All on the local dirt. His connections, Bennett and Camacho, have plans for this one.

CLASSIC FIT (6) gets class relief today, having faced graded stakes foes in her last four dirt races. Mike Stidham (30% winners) ships this one in from the Fairgrounds and Jesus Castenon rides. The last time this filly ran with company similar to today's ($75,000 Stake at Gulfstream), she won.

The Stakes finale, Race 9 at 4:50 PM is the $125,000 Gasparilla Stakes at seven panels for three year-old Fillies. This appears to be a wide open affair.

MO CITY (10) from the powerful Stidham outfit, appears to be a filly with a future. She was an impressive debut winner by five lengths over the Tampa track at six furlongs, today's additional furlong should not be a problem. Pablo Morales (41% winners with Stidham in Tampa) has the return mount. Worked a bullet four furlongs in 47.3 on January 10. A lot to like at 8/1 morning line.

THE BET $10 to win on MO CITY (10) and a $2 exacta box with SWISS SKY DIVER (3) and
WE THE CLOUD (1) 1,3,10.   Total Bet $22

Gulfstream, had guaranteed that the pool would be at least $3 million today.

The combination of the carryover and today's bets was $2,855,427

So it appears that Gulfstream will need to put in just over $150,000 to bring the pool above $3 million in case there is just one ticket with all six Rainbow 6  winning horses

The sixth race is the start of the Late Pick 5, with a  50-cent minimum bet. Thee is no carryover today.

Gulfstream Park will have Rainbow 6 carryover of $2,477,362 on Thursday .

First post will be 12:35 p.m. for a ten-race card. The Rainbow  6, a 20-cents per combination only bet, will  be on races five through ten with the sequence scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m.

The Rainbow 6 carryover has grown because Wednesday was Gulfstream's 33rd straight race day (entire championship  meet thus far)  without the jackpot/carryover payoff requirement of just one ticket with all six Rainbow six winning horses.

On Wednesday, all six winners were at 3-1 or lower.

That resulted in a relatively low payoff of $166.9 on the 20  cent bet.  HRFLA's  calculation shows there were 1,518 winning tickets.

Program numbers of the winning horses were  9-7-4-9-10-7.

Wednesday's wagering on the Rainbow   was $439,120.

Of that, Gulfstream  took out  20 percent. Of the remainder of the day's Rainbow 6 bet, it divided 56 percent among winning tickets and added 24 percent to the carryover.

Gulfstream pays out the jackpot/carryover only when there is just one ticket with the winners of all six Rainbow 6  races.  The jackpot consists of the entire coming in carryover plus 80  percent of the day's new Rainbow 6  bet.

On Sunday, Gulfsteam's most recent race day, there were 145 tickets with all six winners.  Each was paid $2,322.06 on a  20 cent bet.

Program numbers of the winning horses were 2-4-3-7-5-2.

Sunday's betting on the Rainbow 6 was $574,925.. Of that, Gulfstream took out 20 percent.  It then divided 56 percent among the tickets with six winners and added 24 percent to the carryover.

That was the third largest amount of Rainbow 6 bets during the current meet,

*The current Rainbow 6 carryover is the fifth that has grown to more than $2 million at Gulfstream meets since  early 2018

*At this point in Gulfstream's  2018-2019 championship meet, there were six days with just one  Rainbow 6 ticket  with all six winners.

Spice is Nice (2), at 1-1, was an impressive first-out winner in Sunday's  sixth race a Gulfstream--the start of the Rainbow 6.

The wagering number also was impressive.

Bettors put $574,973 into the Rainbow 6. That is added to the carryover of $2,234,065. The total of about $2.8 million exceeds Gulfsteam's guarantee that the pool would be at least $2.5 million.

Spice is Nice won by ten lengths in the  one-turn mile dirt race--a $50,000 MSW race for 3-year-old fillies.  She was clocked in 1:36.06 on the track listed as Fast.

GP Rainbow 6 Carryover Nears $1.8 Million

The Rainbow carryover at Gulfstream Park is 27 days old and will be $1,769,097 on Wednesday.

Even though it will be a weekday, we expect that with the large carryover betting on the Rainbow 6 will  be at least $300,000--about twice its average for the 2018-2019  championship  meet.

First post will be 1:05 p.m. for  a nine-race card.  The  Rainbow 6, a 20-cent per combination only bet, will be on races four to nine. with the sequence scheduled  to start at 2:35.

Gulfstream was dark on Monday and Tuesday, giving bettors  two days to handicap the card that has 53 entrants--including  main track only and Also Eligibles.

The carryover has grown because Gulfstream has  gone 27 race days (the entire length of  championship meet thus far)  without  the jackpot payoff requirement of just one ticket with all six winners

On days with multiple winners, Gulfstream  takes out 20 percent of the new Rainbow 6 bet. It then divides 56 percent of the new bet among yickets with the most winners and adds 2 percent to the carryover.

On Sunday, betting on the Rainbow 6 was $419,354.

There were 170 tickets with all six winners.  Each paid $1,382.38 on a 20 cent bet. Program numbers of the winning horses were 1-2-8-6-3-1.

Total betting on Sunday's  ten Gulfstream  races was $10,395,618.

Gulfstream is averaging just over $9.0 milllion a day on total handle on its races.  With the larger wagering months coming up, Gulfstream is on pace to break the daily  average of $10.34  million for its 2018-2019 championship meet and perhaps break its all-time  record of $10.56 million set in the  2017-2018 championship meet.
