BAUER'S SUNDAY BETS: FAST & FIRM at TAMPA

 By Bob Bauer

Sunday's nine race program wraps up the weekend racing action with delightful weather and fast and firm conditions. The first Post time is scheduled for 12:13 PM.

Tampa Bay Downs has live racing every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday (except Easter), until closing day on May 7.

Today's play is in RACE 9. A wide open field of well bred sophomore Fillies will try to graduate at nine furlongs on the lawn, under $30,000 Maiden Special conditions.

Post time for the nightcap is scheduled for 4:23 PM. Live coverage on Home of Radio St. Pete & Sunshine 96.7 - Radio St. Pete and Sunshine 96.7 (radiostpete.com) ,including the call from announcer Jason Beem, starts at 4:20.

DIGITAL ASSET (6), from the red hot barn (44% winners in Tampa) of Hall of Fame trainer Shug McGaughey may be the one in this very competitive and confusing field. None of these young misses have yet attempted this demanding mile and one-eighth route.

DIGITAL ASSET (6) ships in from Payson Park where she has worked eight times since last December 21. The final turf drill on February 5, a "bullet" four furlongs in 48.1 is noteworthy. She should be fit and ready.

A daughter of TAPIT (PULPIT), she is bred up and down for the turf. There is plenty of upside here, she has had only one race, a six panel try on the Aquaduct dirt last November 27. That race is a throw out, she ran greenly and was climbing due to her inexperience. Marked improvement is expected today. Top tier turf rider Pablo Morales gets aboard and he and Shug mean business. They are 3 for 3 (100%) when they team up in Tampa this season.

THE BET   $10 win and place ($20) on DIGITAL ASSET (6) and a $2 exacta three horse box ($12) with that one and STANDUP COMEDIENNE (4) and DAWN (5)   4,5,6.       Total Bet $32                 GOOD LUCK!

PREVIOUS RESULTS   2/26   The win bet ran second, but we had the saver exacta. Collected $49.70 on the $42 in total bets. A profit of $7.70, the bankroll is now $998.50.

BAUER'S SATURDAY BETS: FAST & FIRM at TAMPA BAY

 By Bob Bauer

Saturday continues the superb weather and racing conditions in Oldsmar. There is abundant sunshine with temperatures in the mid-eighties. Surfaces are fast and firm, the nine race card starts with the first Post time at 12:13 P.M.

Tampa Bay Downs has live racing every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday (except Easter), until closing day on May 7.

Today's play comes in RACE 7, Post time is 3:16 PM. A salty group of older Fillies and Mares will go nine grassy furlongs, under $16,000 Starter Handicap conditions.

Live coverage on RadioStPete.com, including the call from announcer Jason Beam, begins at 3:13.

PUGILIST (8) is the one to beat here, several handicapping angles point out this lawn loving seven year old Mare. She is now in razor sharp, best form with a record of two wins and a place (by a neck) on the Tampa turf this season. The first score was at today's demanding mile and one-eighth route, wiring a Claiming field at today's $16,000 level.

The latest win was a stalk and pounce trip vs. Optional Claiming $32,000 foes, going a flat mile. It is doubtful that any other runner here could match that performance. Now she drops to face $16,000 rivals again, trainer Jose Delgado wins at 24% with a drop after a win. Regular rider Jose Ferrer, a turf ace, retains the mount.

THE BET:   $20 to win on PUGILIST (8) and a $5 exacta box ($10) with that one and WICKED GROOVE (7) 7,8. Also, a $2 exacta box ($12) with those two and C'EST MARDI (10)  7,8,10         Total Bet $42  GOOD LUCK!

PREVIOUS RESULTS:  2/25/22:  Had the winner, was first and third in the exacta. Collected $88 on the win and place wagers, a profit of $56 on the $32 total bets. The bankroll is now $991.40.

Gulstream Park; Royal Delta Stakes, 12:00 First Post

Gulfstream Park plans a 12 race card Saturday.
First post time is 12:00 PM, while last race post is 5:43 PM.

One stakes race is on the card - the Royal Delta Stakes, Grade III.
It is a $150,000 purse, 1-1/16 miles on dirt for 4-year-old + Filles and Mares. The M/L
favorite is Letruska at 2:5. It will be Race 6, post time about 2:25 PM.

The Rainbow 6 carryover is $1,089,070 with a mandatory payout of that wager.

That means the entire carryover plus the net bets Saturday (wagers minus 20% takeout) will be paid to all winners, with no carryover.
The Rainbow 6 wager attracts lots of attention on mandatory payout days. When the carryover has been above $800,000 in the past, wagering has been near $5 million!

In Friday's racing action, 134 winners collected on the Rainbow 6 wager, earning $1,029.88 each. Two favorites won the last 6 races, and the high-odds winner was 5:1 in race 7.

Wagering on the Rainbow 6 was $246,402.
All sources track handle was $7.99 million Friday.
Good Luck readers.

BAUER'S FRIDAY BETS: FAST & FIRM at TAMPA

 By Bob Bauer

Clear and sunny skies with temperatures in the mid-eighties greet racing fans today. The Downs kicks off the weekend with a nine race card; conditions are fast and firm. The first Post time for Friday is scheduled for 12:15 PM.

Tampa Bay Downs has live racing every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday (except Easter), until closing day May 7.

RACE 7 is today's feature. Four year-olds and up will go a grassy mile under $16,000 Claiming NW2L conditions. Post time is 3:15 PM.

Live RadioStPete.com coverage, including the call from announcer Jason Beem starts at 3:12 p.m.

THRU THE VINE (4) appears to be a live longshot at 10/1 on the morning line. This four year-old gelding woke up in his last race, running second in a turf route that was moved to the dirt due to weather conditions. This was his first decent effort after four dull starts and signals a return to form. His final race in Tampa last season (2/26/21), which was his last turf race, was good enough win with this field. He ran second vs. $20,000 open company Claimers. Today he drops to face NW2L condition claiming rivals on the lawn for the first time. The return to the sod and the class relief are the key here. Low profile, veteran jockey Mike Allen has the return mount.

THE BET  $10 win and place ($20) on THRU THE VINE (4) and a three horse exacta box ($12) with that one and DECEIVER (1) and REINER (9)   1,4,9.   Total Bet $32   GOOD LUCK!

PREVIOUS RESULTS:  2/23/22 : Had the chalk  winner and missed the exacta. Collected $40 on the $37 total bet, a profit of $3. The bankroll is now $935.40.

Gulfstream Park; 10 Races Friday, Carryovers

Gulfstream Park plans 10 horse races Friday.

First post time is 12:30 P.M.
Last post will be approximately 5:14 PM.
There are no stakes races on the card.

Two carryovers are on the card, in races 1 and 5.

The Super HI-5 has a $9,962 carryover in race 1. Race 5 starts the Rainbow 6 near a 2:32 PM post time.

In Thursday's racing action, just 5 winners collected on the Rainbow 6 wager earning a cool $29,905.60 each. This was the fewest winners on this rainbow series that started Jan. 14th.

The carryover continued to grow Thursday, to $1,029,947 entering today. Gulfstream is setting a $1.5 million gross pool on the Rainbow 6 if a single winner takes the whole pot Friday. The late Pick 5 paid $8,060. The wagering on the Rainbow 6 was just $11 more than the Pick 5. We've seen a trend toward favoring the Pick 5 in recent weeks.

Gulfstream announced Wednesday a Rainbow 6 mandatory payout for Saturday, 2/26. Apparantly, they want to "clear the deck" for the Fountain of Youth Saturday wagering taking place March 5th.

All sources track handle was $6.22 million Thursday.

Thursday's Gulfstream; Rainbow Carryover $978,000

Gulfstream Park plans 9 horse races Thursday.

First post time is 12:30 P.M.
Last post will be approximately 4:42 PM.
There are no stakes races on the card.

Race 4 starts the Rainbow 6 near a 2:02 PM post time.

In Wednesday's racing action, 92 winners collected on the Rainbow 6 wager earning $1,084.36 each.

The carryover continued to grow Wednesday, to $978,680 entering today.

We were wrong yesterday on the manadatory payout situation! Gulfstream announced a Rainbow 6 mandatory payout for Saturday, 2/26. Apparantly, they want to "clear the deck" for the Fountain of Youth Saturday wagering taking place March 5th.

All sources track handle was $5.33 million Wednesday.

BAUER'S WEDNESDAY BETS: FAST & FIRM at TAMPA

 By Bob Bauer

Fast and firm conditions and a nine race card start off the week's racing action in Oldsmar. The first Post time is scheduled for 12:15 P.M.

Tampa Bay Downs has live racing every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (except Easter), until closing day on May 7.

Today's feature is RACE 5, Post time is scheduled for 2:18 PM. Live RadioStPete.com coverage, including the call from announcer Jason Beem, starts at 2:15.

A compact but competitive field of a half dozen older Fillies and Mares will go a grassy mile under $32,000 Optional Claiming conditions.

STOLEN HOLIDAY (4) is in a good spot for Hall of Fame trainer Shug McGaughey. This five year-old Mare, a daughter of WAR FRONT (DANZIG) was a winner in her debut at eight and one-half furlongs on the local lawn back on April, 29 2020.

Since then, she has raced five times with classier rivals on the NYRA circuit. She showed versatility  outsprinting a $92,000 NW1X field at Belmont last October 22. Half of her six career races (all turf) have been mile and one-sixteenth routes and the rest have been sprints. She has proved herself already, scoring running short and long, todays middle distance mile should be just right. Red hot rider Pablo Morales gets aboard for the first time. Pablo and Shug are 100% (2 for 2) in Tampa this season.

THE BET:  $25 to win on STOLEN HOLIDAY (4) ($25) and a $2 three horse exacta box ($12) with that one and GENNIE HIGHWAY (1) and STRIKING CHROME (6)  1,4,6   Total Bet: $37  GOOD LUCK!

PREVIOUS RESULTS:   2/20/22:  Narrowly missed all the money, the win bet was second after setting the pace and getting caught late. Collected $25.90 on the chalky saver exacta, a loss of $6.10 on the $32 total bet. The bankroll is now $932.40.

Gulfstream's Wednesday Racing; $1.25 million Rainbow 6 Jackpot

Gulfstream Park plans 8 horse races Wednesday.

First post time is 12:30 P.M.
Last post will be approximately 4:13 PM.
There are no stakes races on the card.
A small under 5% or so chance of precipitation during racing hours.

Race 3 starts the Rainbow 6 near a 1:33 PM post time.

In Sunday's racing action, 885 winners collected on the Rainbow 6 wager earning $248.10 each. Five of six favorites won their races. With the carryover now near $1 million, Gulfstream could step in and declare a mandatory payout day soon. We don't think that will happen. Why? The Fountain of Youth is approaching March 5th, just 8 racing days from today. It makes more business sense to let the jackpot grow until then, because a mandatory payout now would set the carryover back to zero, and there is not enough time to build it up before the big Fountain of Youth Saturday; (perhaps a $30-$35 million handle day). Let it ride we say.

So the carryover Wednesday is $935,711. Gulfstream has made a guarantee of a $1.25 million gross (before takeout) pool to a single winner if the gross betting pool does not reach that amount.

All sources track handle was $10.76 million Sunday.

BAUER'S SUNDAY BETS: FAST & FIRM at TAMPA

 By Bob Bauer

A nine race card with fast and firm conditions closes out the weekend's racing. The first Post time is scheduled for 12:13 PM.

Tampa Bay Downs has live racing every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday (except Easter), until closing day on May 7.

Today's play is in RACE 8, Post time is 3:48 PM. Older Fillies and Mares will sprint seven panels under $12,500 Optional Claiming conditions.

Live coverage on RadioStPete.com, including the call from announcer Jason Beem starts at 3:45.

SHE DAZZLE (7) is the choice here, for several reasons. This four year-old Filly was a longshot (18-1) winner with similar foes at today's distance, back on January 22, with Fernando De La Cruz aboard for the first time.

They ran a stalking trip between runners about two lengths off the leader, made a move at the 3/16, switched outside and wore down that rival to be best by 3/4 of a length. There is a good chance for a repeat. She earned the highest speed figure and late pace figure (very important at seven furlongs) with that victory. Also, this Rob O'Conner trainee is fond of the Oldsmar oval. She has been in the money in six of seven local attempts, with a trio of victories. Worth a bet at 9/2 on the Morning line. De La Cruz retains the mount.

THE BET:  $10 to win ($10) on SHE DAZZLE (7) and a $5 two horse exacta box ($10) with that one and LET'S BE HONEST (1) 1,7. Also a $2 three horse exacta box ($12) with those two and WICKED MIAH (2) 1,2,7.    Total Bet $32   GOOD LUCK!

PREVIOUS RESULTS:    2/19/22  The first bet went down, lost $22. Had the winner and exacta in the second wager. Collected $54 for the win and $65.80 on the exacta, a profit of $75.80 on the $44 in total bets. The bankroll is now $938.50.

BAUER'S SATURDAY BETS: FAST & FIRM at TAMPA BAY

 By Bob Bauer

Tampa turf fans are in for a treat today as the Downs presents a double feature with a pair of $100,000 Stakes on the lawn. A ten race card is on tap, conditions are fast and firm. The first Post time is scheduled for 12:13 PM.

Tampa Bay Downs has live racing every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday (except Easter), until closing day, May 7.

RadioStPete.com will have live coverage of both Stakes events, including the call from announcer Jason Beem.
Both appear to have good betting opportunities with large, salty fields. Air times are: RACE 8, THE LIGHTNING CITY STAKES 3:45 PM, RACE 10, THE TURF DASH STAKES 4:50 PM.

A dozen older Fillies and Mares will sprint five panels in RACE 8, the $100,000 LIGHTNING CITY STAKES.

THE BET:  $10 to win on MAMBA WAMBA (9) ($10) and a $2 three horse exacta box ($12) with that one and PAYNDEMBLUESAWAY (10) and BEAUTIFUL GRACE (11) 9,10, 11
Total Bet: $22.

The nightcap, RACE 10, is the $100,000 TURF DASH STAKES, for Colts and Geldings also at five furlongs. A field of nine is signed on after scratches.

THE BET:  $10 to win on CHESS MASTER (2) ($10) and a $2 three horse exacta box ($12) with that one and XY SPEED (8) and BAD BEAT BRIAN (9). 2,8,9. Total Bet $22 GOOD LUCK!

PREVIOUS RESULTS  2/18/22:  Cashed the place bet, missed the win and exacta. Collected $14 on the $32 total wager, a loss of $18. The bankroll is now $862.70.

Gulfstream Park Saturday; One Stakes, Two Carryovers

Gulfstream Park plans a 12 race card Saturday.
First post time is 12:00 PM, while last race post is 5:43 PM.

One stakes race is on the card - the Gulfstream Park Sprint Stakes.
It is a $150,000 purse, 6 furlongs on dirt for 4-year-olds and up. The M/L favorite is Drain the Clock at 8:5. Five entrants are listed after Doc Amster was scratched earlier today. Post time about 5:10 PM.

Two carryover's are today: Rainbow 6; $743,842 commencing in race 7 at 3:00 PM, and the Super HI-5 carryover of $6,261 in race 1 at 12:00 PM.
Gulfstream is again guaranteeing a $1.1 million minimum pool today on the Rainbow 6 wager. That would be available to a single winner of the Rainbow 6 should the betting not reach that amount.

In Friday's racing action, just 5 winners collected on the Rainbow 6 wager, pocketing $25,026.18 each. Worldly Manner, the 37:1 horse winner by a neck in race 5 no doubt knocked many bettors out of the hunt. The winning finishing order was 6/7-9-1-6-3-1.

Wagering on the Rainbow 6 was $214,123.
All sources track handle was $7.64 million Friday.

BAUER'S FRIDAY BETS: FAST & FIRM at TAMPA

 By Bob Bauer

Conditions are fast and firm for Friday's nine race card. Skies are overcast with temperatures in the low seventies. The first Post time is scheduled for 12:15 PM.

Tampa Bay Downs has live racing every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday (except Easter) until closing day, May 7.

Today's play is in RACE 7, Post time is 3:15 PM. Live RadioStPete.com coverage, including the call from announcer Jason Beem, starts at 3:12.

A full field of sophomores will go a mile on the sod under $20,000 Claiming conditions. PAPI BELO (3) is a logical longshot worth a bet at 6/1 on the Morning line.

This gray colt turned in a winning effort last time out. He took the lead (four-wide) at the top of the stretch going a mile and one-sixteenth, then faded to fourth, in a very swiftly run contest. He only missed the money by a length and one-half, against similar foes as today. The key here is the turn-back to a flat mile. The half furlong less will be to his benefit today. Angel Castillo has been aboard for both turf tries, the third time might be the charm for this one.

THE BET:  $10 win and place ($20) on PAPI BELO (3) and a three horse $2 box ($12) with that one and ORIGO (7) and AFIKOMAN (9)   3,7,9             Total Bet $32    GOOD LUCK!

PREVIOUS RESULTS:   2/16/22:
Lost $32, the bankroll is now $880.70

Gulfstream Park's Friday; Rainbow 6 Carryover Grows

Gulfstream's Friday card will feature 9 races, with no stakes races planned. It's race day 55 in the Championship meet that will end April 3rd.

First post time is 12:30 PM, while last post is 4:42 PM.

The sole carryover is again the Rainbow 6 with $692,467.

The Rainbow 6 sequence starts in race 4 with an estimated post time of 2:02 PM.
Gulfstream will guarantee a gross pool of $1 million to a single winner if the wagering today does not bring it up to that amount.

In Thursday's racing action, 65 starters ran in 9 races, while 43 horses were gated in the Rainbow 6 races.

The Rainbow 6 paid $3,857.36 to 35 winners. As the recent trend continues, no longshot won; the high odds winner was 5:1 in race 5. One favorite was had in all Friday races in race 4. All three turf races were run on the all-weather track.

The Rainbow 6 betting pool was $243,060 Thursday.

Interestingly, the Late Pick 5 attracted $100,000 more in wagering than the Rainbow 6. It paid $1,759. Perhaps bettors are favoring the Pick 5 over the Rainbow 6 now?

All Sources track handle was $7.41 million.

Thursday's Gulfstream; Carryovers 12:30 PM

Gulfstream Park plans 9 horse races Thursday.

First post time is 12:30 P.M.
Last post will be approximately 4:42 PM.
There are no stakes races on the card.

Race 4 starts the Rainbow 6 near a 2:00 PM post time.

In Wednesday's racing action, 55 winners collected on the Rainbow 6 wager earning $1,698.10 each. The highest odds winner was 9.6:1 in race 5.

The carryovers coming into today include the rainbow 6 at $634,141, and $5,120.85 on the Super Hi-5. The Rainbow 6 starts with race 4 at approximately 2:02 PM, while the Super Hi-5 will be run in race 1 if 7 or more starters enter the gate. Eleven starters are listed on the card now, barring scratches.

Gulfstream has made a guarantee of at least $900,000 for the gross (before takeout) pool, to a single winner if the wagers do not bring the pool up to that amount in today's wagering.

All sources track handle was $5.12 million Wednesday.

BAUER'S WEDNESDAY BETS: FAST & FIRM at TAMPA

 By Bob Bauer

Sunny skies with fast and firm conditions kick off the racing week. Today's nine race card has a first Post time of 12:15 PM.

Tampa Bay Downs races every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday (except Easter) until closing day on May 7.

The feature is RACE 7, Post time 3:18 PM. A contentious field of sophomore Fillies will go a grassy mile under $32,000 Maiden Claiming conditions.

Live coverage on RadioStPete.com, including the call from announcer Jason Beam starts at 3:15.

There are several runners in this contest who are dropping into Claiming company for the first time. These types usually have an edge over their rivals who have been in the Claiming ranks without a win.

CUPID'S DREAM (7) fits this description. A daughter of CUPID (TAPIT), she has had a pair of ok races (lost by 5 Lengths) vs Maiden Special fields. Improvement is expected on the drop and horseplayers should note the connections. Leading jockey Samy Camacho will ride for top trainer Gerald Bennett. The Bennett outfit wins at a 41% clip in this situation.

THE BET:  $20 to win ($20) on CUPID'S DREAM (7) and a $2 three horse exacta box ($12) with that one and DANCING SOPHIA (5) and BELLA CASEATA (9) 5,7,9. Total Bet $32 GOOD LUCK!

PREVIOUS RESULTS:   2/13/22;  Lost $32, the bankroll is now $912.70.

Gulfstream's Wednesday Racing; Rainbow 6 Carryover

Gulfstream Park plans 8 horse races Wednesday.

First post time is 12:30 P.M.
Last post will be approximately 4:13 PM.
There are no stakes races on the card.
A 30% or so chance of showers is forecast during racing hours.

Race 3 starts the Rainbow 6 near a 1:33 PM post time.

In Sunday's racing action, 126 winners collected on the Rainbow 6 wager earning $1,398.58 each. It took just 5 of 6 to win, mainly due to race 6 winner Academic Honor (46:1) beating the favorite Lakota Spirit (2:5) by 2-1/4 lengths in the stretch.
Just one favorite entered the winners circle in the last 6 races Sunday.

The carryover coming into today then is $593,729 on the Rainbow 6. Gulfstream has made a guarantee of at least $800,000 for the pool to a single winner if the gross betting pool does not reach that amount.

All sources track handle was $8.76 million Sunday.

The carryover's coming into today are the Rainbow 6; $429,993 commencing in race 7 at 3:00 PM, and the Super HI-5 carryover of $9,197 in race 1 at 12:00 PM.

Gulfstream is again guaranteeing a $750,000 jackpot pool today. That would be available to a single winner of the Rainbow 6 should the betting not reach that amount today; carryover + today's net bets after the takeout.

In Friday's racing action, 60 winners collected on the Rainbow 6 wager, pocketing $1,502.86 each. The 9:1 shot in the last race was the high-odds winner on the day.

Wagering on the Rainbow 6 was $162,608.
All sources track handle was $6.98 million Friday.

Gulfstream's Friday Racing; 12:30 PM Post Time

Gulfstream's Friday card will feature 9 races, with no stakes races planned. It's race day 50 in the Championship meet that will end April 3rd.

First post time is 12:30 PM, while last post is 4:42 PM.
The sole carryover is again the Rainbow 6 with $390,974.

Gulfstream again will guarantee a gross pool of $600,000 if the wagering does not surpass that.

In Thursday's racing action, 61 starters ran in 9 races, while 41 horses were gated in the Rainbow 6 races.

The Rainbow 6 paid $147.76 to about 560 winners. As the recent trend continues, no longshot won; the high odds winner was 3.7:1 in race 9. Three favorites won in the 6 races.

The Rainbow 6 betting pool was $149,959 Thursday. Interestingly, the Late Pick 5 paid just $103.25 while it attracted $253,869 in wagers. Perhaps bettors are favoring the Pick 5 over the Rainbow 6 now?

All Sources track handle was $5.51 million.

Gulfstream's Thursday Racing; $355,000 Carryover

Gulfstream Park plans 9 horse races Thursday.

First post time is 12:30 P.M.
Last post will be approximately 4:41 PM.
There are no stakes races on the card.
The weather looks mostly sunny with little chance of rain.

Race 4 starts the Rainbow 6 near a 2:00 PM post time.

In Wednesday's racing action, about 400 winners collected on the Rainbow 6 wager earning $194.28 each. Reason: four favorites won in the Rainbow races, and the highest odds winner was 6.5:1 when Strong Embrace won by 1/2 length over favorite School Dance in race 5. All three turf races were switched to the All-Weather-Track, while 3 races were on the dirt track. The Late Pick 5 suffered also, returning $287.80.

The carryover coming into today is $354,996 on the Rainbow 6.

Gulfstream has made a guarantee of at least $550,000 for the pool, if bettors do not bring the pool up to that amount in today's wagering.

All sources track handle was $5.14 million Wednesday.

Gulfstream's Wednesday Racing, 12:30 PM Post Time

Gulfstream Park plans 8 horse races Wednesday.

First post time is 12:30 P.M.
Last post will be approximately 4:11 PM.
There are no stakes races on the card.
This is the first 8 horse live-racing day since New Year’s Eve.

Race 3 starts the Rainbow 6 near a 1:33 PM post time. Light rain is expected during much of the race day.

In Sunday’s racing action, 440 winners collected on the Rainbow 6 wager earning a paltry $484.06 each. Reason: three favorites won in the Rainbow races, and the highest odds winner was just 3.7:1.

The carryover coming into today is $321,243 on the Rainbow 6. Gulfstream has made a guarantee of at least $500,000 for the pool, so that means bettors need to wager $178,757 today, or Gulfstream will kick in the difference.

All sources track handle was $12.1 million Sunday.

BAUER'S WEDNESDAY BETS: MAIN TRACK GOOD, NO TURF RACING

 By Bob Bauer

A cool, sunny day starts off the racing week in Oldsmar with a nine-race card. Yesterday brought all day rain to the region, resulting in the closing of the turf course. The main track is rated as good. The first Post time is scheduled for 12:15 PM.

Tampa Bay Downs has racing every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday (except Easter) until closing day on May 7.

Today's play is in RACE 6, Post time 2:48 PM. Live RadioSt.Pete.com coverage including the call from announcer Jason Beem starts at 2:45.

A field of seven sophomore Filly $25,000 Maiden Claimers will attempt to graduate at five and one-half furlongs.

LIL' MISS CAMILLE (6) is in a good spot for leading trainer Gerald Bennett. She is lightly raced (a pair of Maiden Special events) and drops into a claiming race for the first time. The Bennett barn wins at 42% with this move. Also, the pace dynamics are in her favor here. A daughter of EXAGGERATOR (CURLIN), she has the early foot to get loose on the lead. The half-furlong turn back and the class relief will help. Fernando De La Cruz has ridden her both times and returns today, the third time should be the charm.

THE BET: $25 to win on LIL' MISS CAMILLE (6) ($25) and a three horse $2 box with that one and DANCE FOR GOLD (1) and LOVERS AT MIDNIGHT (7)  1,6,7  ($12).     Total Bet $37.      GOOD LUCK!

PREVIOUS RESULTS:   2/6/22   Lost $32, the bankroll is now $917.70.

BAUER'S SUNDAY BETS: FAST & GOOD at TAMPA

 By Bob Bauer

The Downs wraps up the weekend with a nine race program, the first Post time is scheduled for 12:13 PM. The dirt is fast and the turf is rated good, after some light overnight showers.

Tampa Bay Downs has live racing every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday (except Easter) until closing day on May 7.

Today's play is in RACE 7, Post time is 3:11. Live coverage on RadioStPete.com, including the call from announcer Jason Beam will start at 3:08.

A field of eight $10,000 claimers, four and up, will go seven panels on the main track. This appears to be an evenly matched group, an upset could be in the offing.

PREPARE FOR GLORY (2) is very interesting in this spot at 6/1 on the Morning line. This five year-old Gelding was claimed away from the Jordan Blair barn off a win (at seven furlongs) on December 17. Blair then claimed him back in his next race on New Year's day. It is a sure sign of a trainer's intent when they reacquire a runner that has been lost at the claim box. He's back at seven furlongs here and a top effort is expected. A repeat of the victory earlier this season is possible.

THE BET:  $10 win and place on PREPARE FOR GLORY (2) ($20) and a $2 three horse exacta box ($12) with that one and LOUD AND PROUD (7) and BERHANU (8)  2,7,8.     Total Bet $32     GOOD LUCK!

PREVIOUS RESULTS  2/5/22   Both of the win wagers ran second. Cashed the $51.40 exacta in Race 6, a slight profit of $7.40 on the $44 in total bets. The bankroll is now $949.70.

BAUER'S SATURDAY BETS: FAST & FIRM at TAMPA

 By Bob Bauer

Today is "Turf Champions Day" at the Downs. The ten race card is highlighted by a pair of Grade 3 grass races, both with purses of $175,000. These appear to be wide open betting events with full fields and a variety of runners from some of the sport's best barns. The first Post time is scheduled for 12:13 PM.

Tampa Bay Downs has live racing every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday (except Easter) until closing day on May 7.

RadioStPete.com will have live coverage of both  today's Stakes Races, including the call from announcer Jason Beem.

Grade 3 Stakes action starts in RACE 6 at 2:39 with THE ENDEAVOUR STAKES. Older Fillies and Mares will travel a mile and one-sixteenth on the firm going.

THE BET:  $10 to win on LADY SPEIGHTSPEARE (3) ($10) and a $2 three horse exacta box with that one and BLEEKER STREET (2) and MORNING MOLLY (9) ($12)   2,3,9.          Total Bet $22

The second half of the Stakes double header takes place at 3:43 in RACE 8. THE TAMPA BAY STAKES, also at eight and one half grassy furlongs, features a dozen salty veterans of the sod.

THE BET:  $10 to win on GET SMOKIN (7) ($10) and a three horse $2 exacta box with that one and TALK OR LISTEN (8) and DEVAMANI (10) 7,8,10 ($12)  Total Bet $22   GOOD LUCK!

PREVIOUS RESULTS  2/4/22  Good news, had the winner and exacta. Not so good news, the winner was bet down to odds-on chalk. Collected $34.30 on the $32 in bets, a profit of $2.30. The bankroll is now $942.30.

Holy Bull Highlights Gulfstream's Saturday Racing

Gulfstream Park plans a robust 12 horse race card Saturday.
First post time is 12:00 PM, while last race post is 5:43 PM.
Five stakes races will be run, concluding with the $250,000 Holy Bull, 1-1/16 mile on dirt in race 11.
Race 4 starts the Stakes races near 1:30 PM, as follows:

* Claiborne Farm Swale Stakes, 1 mile on turf.
* Kitten's Joy Stakes, 1-1/16 mile on turf.
* Forward Gal Stakes, 7 furlongs on dirt
* Sweet Chant Stakes, 1-1/16 mile on turf.
The above races are all $100,000 purses.

The morning line favorite in the Holy Bull is Mo Donegal, at 5:2, trained by Todd Pletcher,
with Irad Ortiz, Jr. in the mount. Greatest Honor won last year's Holy Bull by 5-3/4 lengths!

Gulfstream announced the carryovers in the following table.
The Rainbow 6 wager also kicks off in race 7 at about 3:00 PM.

In Friday's racing action, 10 winners collected on the Rainbow 6 wager, pocketing $12,134.40 each. That was the 5 of 6 payout, as no bettor had all 6 winners.

Wagering on the Rainbow 6 was $212,163.
All sources track handle was $9.54 million Friday.

BAUER'S FRIDAY BETS: FAST & FIRM at TAMPA

 By Bob Bauer

Friday greets Tampa fans with a nine race card and sunny skies, the temperature is in the mid seventies. The first Post time is scheduled for 12:15 PM.

Tampa Bay Downs has live racing every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday (except Easter), until closing day on May 7.

Today's feature is RACE 5, Post time is 2:13 pm. Coverage on RadioStPete.com, including the call from announcer Jason Beam will start at 2:10.

A very competitive, well bred field of sophomores will go a grassy mile and one-sixteenth under $75,000 Optional Claiming NW1X conditions.

UNANIMUS CONSENT (7) from the powerful Brown barn (46% winners in Tampa) is the one to beat. This son of French sire ALMANZOR was a handy winner in his first (and only) race. That was a turf mile versus a good Maiden Special group at Monmouth on September 11. It should be noted that the runner who finished second that day came back to win next time out.

A positive key race. This promising youngster has logged ten workouts in preparation for this event. A repeat of his debut effort would put him back in the winner's circle today.

THE BET  $10 to win on UNAMINOUS CONSENT (7) ($10) and a $5 two horse exacta box with that one and BEN'S MALICE (4) 4,7 ($10). Also, a $2 three horse exacta box with those two and HIGH STOCK (3) 3,4,7. ($12) Total Bet $32   GOOD LUCK!

PREVIOUS RESULTS:  2/2/22  Lost $52, the bankroll is now $940.

Friday's Gulfstream; Thursday's Results

Gulfstream's Friday racing card will feature 10 races with no stakes races planned.

First post time is 12:30 PM.
The sole carryover is again the Rainbow 6 with $57,516.
The 6 race Rainbow 6 sequence starts in race 5 with an estimated post time of 2:32 PM.

In Thursday's racing action, 64 starters ran in 10 races, while 43 horses were gated in the Rainbow 6 races.

The Rainbow 6 paid $3,660.14 to 18 winners. Races 4 and 5 were the high-odds winners, at approximately 9:1 odds each. Three favorites won in the 6 races.

The betting pool was $121,447 Thursday, typical for a weekday and with the carryover small and only in day three. Interestingly, the Late Pick 5 paid just $415.25 while it attracted over 3 times the bets than the Rainbow 6.

Rainbow 6 wagering was $121,447 Thursday, while the All-Sources track handle was $7.05 million.
