Next Gulfstream Racing, Friday, June 2nd

Gulfstream Park will be dark and not offer live racing, Thursday, June 1st as they migrate to a Friday, Saturday, Sunday live racing schedule the rest of this meet.

This change to a 3 day racing schedule arrives about two weeks earlier than in 2022, when the first "Thursday-less" racing was Thursday, June 17th, 2022, after which it was a three day race week until December 1st, the traditional start to the Winter Championship Meet.

We'll recap Sunday's racing and preview the Friday racing card tomorrow evening.

Sunday's Gulfstream Racing; 2 Carryovers from Saturday

 by HorseRacing FLA staff

Gulfstream Park has a 9-race card Sunday.

First post is at 12:50 PM, with no stakes races planned. The Rainbow 6 will get started at approximately 2:18 PM in race #4 with a $130,735 carryover.

Saturday, three 10:1 odds winners in the last 4 races made handicapping difficult for the late races. Five favorites won on the day, but they were in the first 6 races.

In Saturday's racing at Gulfstream, 70 winners cashed the Rainbow 6 payoff of $875.32 each. No bettor matched 6 of 6 on the Rainbow wager, so it paid out on 5 of 6.

The best payout Saturday was the Late Pick 5, at $18,810. There were 6-7 winners on that wager. Interestingly, if you added the favorite on race 6 to your Pick 5 wager, making it a Pick 6, (races 6-11), you may have taken down the Rainbow 6 jackpot! Could-a, Should-a they say.

The winning Rainbow 6 program numbers were:6-2-7-7-2-4.
The Super High 5 has a $3,963 carryover Sunday also.

All sources track handle registered $7.43 million Saturday, $109,444 of that bet on the Rainbow 6.

Thursday's Gulfstream Racing; 2 Carryovers; Derby Results

by HorseRacing FLA staff
Gulfstream Park has an 8-race card Thursday, May 11th.

First post is at 12:40 PM.
Gulfstream races Thursday through Sunday in the Royal Palm meet at the Hallandale Beach, Fla. track with 12:40 PM Post Times except some Holiday and Stakes variations.

No stakes races are on the card. The 3rd through 8th races are the Rainbow 6 races, starting at approximately 1:38 PM. There's a $370,195 Rainbow 6 carryover on the day. Gulfstream will guarantee a $475,000 gross jackpot if one winner emerges in Thursday's racing.  The SUPER HIGH 5 wager has a $2,924 carryover in race 1 most likely.

In last Sunday's racing action, 65 winners of the Rainbow 6 collected $1,095.92 each on the 20-cent bet. Three favorites won in the last 6 races. Fifty-five horses competed in the Rainbow 6 races, with Join the Dance the long-odds winner on the day at 13:1 in race 8.

The Rainbow 6 program winners were: 5-4/7-4-7-6-5.

In last Saturday's Kentucky Derby Day, Gulfstream collected $9.03 million total handle. That was about even from 2022, at $8.93 million, but down from the $10.88 million in 2021.

In the Kentucky Derby itself, betting pools were fairly consistant with the 2022 race on the popular wagers.
$2 EXACTA: up 2.1% in wagering to $26.3 million
$0.50 TRIFECTA: -4.8% in wagering to $31.3 million
$0.20 PICK 6: -2.4% in wagering to $2.45 million.

The BIGGEST INCREASE we sighted was the WIN-PLACE-SHOW pool increasing from $75.6 million last year to $89.2 million this year; that's a BIG +18% increase.

Perhaps after the 80:1 win last year by RICH STRIKE, bettors were not willing to make the multiple horse bets as much?

The total purse for the Kentucky Derby was $8.303 million.

We hope you had a winner or two in this year's 149th Kentucky Derby!

First post is at 12:50 PM, and last post is planned near 5:50 PM. The 11th race will feature the English Channel Stakes, a non-graded stakes for 3 year-olds on the turf at 1 mile. As reported here on HorseRacingFLA.com, our editor Jim Freer passed away on March 17th. His handicapping on Gulfstream and the Kentucky Derby will be sorely missed.

The 6th through 11th races are the Rainbow 6 races, starting at approximately 3:20 PM. There's a $321,102 Rainbow 6 carryover on the day.
