A Sire Stakes, Rainbow 6 Highlight Gulfstream Weekend

A pair of $400,000 Florida Sire stakes races on Saturday and the prospect of as much as $1 million in Rainbow 6 betting on Sunday loom as highlights of the closing weekend at Gulfstream Park's summer meet.

The Saturday action is underway, following first post of 12:00 p.m.

The co-features are the $400,000 In Reality for 2-year-old males and the $400,000 My Dear Girl for 2-year-old fillies Both races  are  1 1/16 miles on dirt.

The My Dear Girl is the 11th  race with scheduled post of 4:58 p.m.  The  In Reality is the 13th  race with scheduled post of 6:03 p.m.

The  Gulfstream Saturday card has five other stakes races. We will have coverage on this blog.

The carryover on the Rainbow 6 is $109,718. It is on races nine to 14 with the sequence  set  to start  at 3:55 p.m.

On Sunday, the meet's closing day, Gulfstream will pay out its Rainbow 6 jackpot - no matter the number of tickets with the winners of all six (races the last six on the card).

The  jackpot consists of the entire coming-in carryover plus 80 percent of the day's new Rainbow 6  bets.

On most days, Gulfstream pays out the jackpot only if there is just one ticket with  the winners of all six races. If there are multiple winning tickets, Gulfstream takes out 20 percent of the days Rainbow 6 bet,  It then divides 56 percent of the day's bet among tickets with six winners and adds 24 percent to the  carryover.

If  there are multiple winning tickets on Saturday, the carryover for Sunday probably will be in the $150,000 range.  In at case, Gulfstream history indicates that Sunday's Rainbow 6 betting will be between $500,000 and $1 million.

The Rainbow 6 is a 20-cent only wager. Bettors can put an unlimited number of 20 cent combinations on a ticket.  For example, a ticket with two horses in each race has 64 combinations and costs $12.80.

Friday's Gulfstream: 9 Races, 2 PM Post

Gulfstream Park hosts 9 horse races Friday, with a first post of 2:00 PM, and a last post of 6:02 PM.
In between, look for some increased action from Thursday’s card with 10 races and 78 starters in the gate, and a growing
Pick-6 jackpot.

That’s about an average card for a summer weekday. The 10 races produced little fan fare, except Gran Saman’s 18:1 win in the third race.  54 starters ran and 6 of 6 on the Rainbow 6 yielded a payout of $1,132 to 37 winners.
Friday’s card schedules 9 races, and 90 starters. There are five turf races (1,3,5,7,9).
The Rainbow 6 commences with race 4 at 3:30 PM ET with a two-year-old maiden claimer.
63 starters are scheduled in the Rainbow sequence, races 4-9.
We look for some increased pools, given the mandatory payouts announced for Sunday’s card for the Pick-4, Pick-5 and Rainbow 6.
Friday’s carryover will be $93,857.
The Super Hi 5 will no doubt be run in race 1 Friday, with 10 starters scheduled. That carryover is $1,919.
Good Luck out there!

Gulfstream: Huge Fields, 12:45 PM Post

Gulfstream Park hosts a big 12-race card Saturday, with an expected 135 starters!

First post will be 12:45 PM for the Hallandale, Fla. track, with 6 of those races on the turf course – race
numbers 1,3,5,7,9 and 11.

There is one stakes race in the mix:
The Bear’s Den Stakes, a $75,000 purse race with the morning line favorite Gemonteer at 5:2.

The Rainbow 6 wager on Friday paid a handsome $10,716 to 3 winners. Best Candy rattled the barns with a 44:1 odds win in the 8th race, by 1-1/4 lengths. The favorite finished 6th in the 7 horse field.

Surprisingly, the late Pick-5 paid a huge $37,620. It was a nine race card Friday, so the longshot was included
in both wagers.

The Rainbow 6 carryover grows to $40,393.
The field for today’s races in the Rainbow 6 is 71 entries, vs. just 50 starters Friday.

Total handle was $4.18 million Friday.

Good Luck !

Gulfstream's Friday Card

Gulfstream Park will host a 9 race card today with a 2:00 PM first post time. The popular Rainbow 6 will commence with race 4 with a 3:30 PM post time.

58 starters are expected in the Rainbow races.

Thursday's recap: Gulfstream ran 10 races with a $3.65 million handle. It was the second day in the new Rainbow 6 sequence, as the jackpot was hit on Saturday the 15th (see prior post on that data).

The Rainbow 6 pool was a normally weekday figure of $45,669, with 52 winning tickets each earning $487. The long-odds winner was Reagan's Odyssey at 8:1 in race 4, a $16,000 claiming race for 3 year-olds.

The carryover is $26,615 today, so we don't expect much wagering as the small pool discourages the larger betting dollars. However, you can have some fun with some low dollar bets.

To go ALL-IN with the 58 entrants would cost you $145,152 today, a foolish wager given the jackpot size currently.

The Super Hi-5 does have a carryover, and stands at $3,835. It will be run on race 1 today, as that race is scheduled for 7 starters, the minimum number to offer this wager.

Good luck !

Tamiami Handicap, at Five Furlongs on Turf, Tops GP Sunday Card

The Sunday feature at Gulfstream Park is the $75,000 Tamiami Handicap at five furlongs on turf for 3-year-olds and up.

It is the fourth race with scheduled post of 2:15 p.m. First  post  is 12:45 p.m.  for  the 12-race card.

On Saturday, American Frolic rallied from eighth and last place after a half mile and won the $75,000 Miss Gracie at  7 1/2 furlongs on turf for 3-year-old fillies.

We will have details of those stories and other Gulfstream racing news during the afternoon and evening on this blog.

Inside Saturday's Rainbow 6 Takedown

The Gulfstream Park Rainbow 6  had just one winning ticket on Saturday, and it paid $244,788.08 on the 20-cent only bet.

It was the only ticket with all six winning horses. The program numbers of those horses were 11-12-9-4-2-5.

Gulfstream will begin a  new Rainbow 6 pool on Sunday. The 12-race card has a first post of 12:45 p.m.

The Rainbow 6  will be on races seven to 12 with the sequence scheduled to start at 3:52 p.m.

The Saturday winning ticket took down the entire carryover of $154,834 plus 80 percent of the day's Rainbow 6  bet of $112,457 (20 percent takeout).

The sequence began with Independent Worker (11) at 45-1 winning the sequence-starting seventh race.  It ended with First Off (5), the 1-2 favorite, winning the 12th race. In between, the winning horses' odds were 15-1, 22-1,s 7-1 and 2-1.

There were 61 runners in the six races. The combination of the large fields and longshot winners left  only six live  tickets going into the  12th race.

Each of those tickets had a horse singled out.  One ticket, and only one, had First Off as a single in the 5 1/2 furlong dirt race--a $10,000 maiden claimer for fillies and mare3-YO and up.

No doubt, numerous other tickets had First Off as a  single.  But those tickets  got knocked out earlier in the Rainbow 6.

That points out the biggest risk in the Rainbow 6--there are no consolation payouts.

First Off's credentials were obvious. The 4-year-old daughter of First Dude was dropping from  the $20,000 level, coming off a bullet workout at Gulfstream; and had hit the board in three of four starts.

She also had these connections: owner Frank Carl Calabrese, trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. and jockey Paco  Lopez.

First  Off was the leader  at every  call and won in the respectable time  of 1:04.14.

The carryover had built up over ten days when there were multiple tickets with the winners of  all six winners.  On those days, Gulfstream takes out 20 percent of the new Rainbow 6 bets, divides 56 percent among winning tickets and adds 24 percent to the carryover.

Gulfstream said the winning ticket was purchased on Xpressbet. That is the advance deposit  wagering company owned by The Stronach Group, the parent company of Gulfstream.

*On Saturday the Late Pick 5  paid $12,748.30 for the minimum 50 cent  bet.  Tickets with four of five winners paid $98.15.  The number of winning tickets was not readily available,=. The Late Pick 5 pool was $120,008.

Lopez Wins Four At Gulfstream

Paco Lopez rode four winners at Gulfstream Park on Saturday, giving him six in 16 starts in the three days since his return to the Hallandale Beach track.

His wins came on two favorites for trainer Saffie Joseph Jr., one favorite for trainer Carlo Vaccarezza and a 9-2 shot for Armando De La Cerda.

That indicates he will be a top call rider for many trainers at the upcoming Gulfstream Park West meet at Calder and later at the Gulfstream championship meet.

Lopez, who has a large fan base in South Florida, spent most of the summer  riding at Monmouth Park in Oceanport, N.J. He had 71 winners, finishing second to Jose Ferrer who had 95.

At the GP West meet, Lopez likely will battle Emisael Jaramillo and Tyler Gaffalione for most jockey wins.

Jaramillo rode one winner at Gulfstream on Saturday.  He has 54 and leads  the track's summer meet, and  Gaffalione  is second with 46.

Gaffalione rode at Belmont Park on Saturday, with no wins in six starts.

On Sunday at Gulfstream, Gaffalione and Lopez each have eight mounts and Jaramillo has six mounts.

Rainbow 6 --Six Live Tickets, Each With a Single

Going into Gulfstream's 12th and final race there are six live tickets in the Rainbow 6.

Each ticket has a horse singled.  They are numbers 5, 8, 9, 11, 13 and 14.

If any of those horses win, the payoff would be about $245,000 on the 20-cent only bet/
If another horse wins, there will be a carryover of about $180,000 on Sunday.

GP Tenth Won by 7-1 Shot

Dreamy Martini (4) at 7-1 won Gulfstream's 10th race, the fourth leg of the Rainbow 6.

He was the first winner in the sequence who was not at double digit odds.

The 11th race, with post at about 6:05, is the $75,000 Miss Gracie at 7 1/2 furlongs on turf for 3-YO fillies.

Treasure for Gold (10) is the 9-5 favorite. She has won three optional claiming races on the Gulfstream turf.  Paco Lopez, with three wins today, rides for Todd Pletcher.

For an exacta box, we like that horse, American Frolic (2) and Midnight Soiree (4).

Big Long-Shot Winners at Gulfstream

Here are the bombs-away winners in the first three races in the Rainbow 6 at Gulfstream.

7th race --  Independent Worker (11) at 45-1
8th race =- First and three (12) at  15-1
9th race --  Richie's Sister (9) at 22-1

The 50-cent Pick 3 on races seven to nine paid $4,920.40.

So,this might be a day when there is just one winning Rainbow 6 ticket, taking down a jackpot of about $245,000.  Or maybe five of six might be enough to split 56 percent of today's bet of $112,457.

Also--look for a big payoff in the Late Pick 5, where $120,605 was bet.

Bomber Wins Rainbow 6 Opener

Independent Worker (11), at 45-1, won Gulfstream's seventh race to start Gulfstream's Rainbow 6.

The carryover coming in was $155,834. Bettors added  $112,457 to the Rainbow 6 pool.

Rainbow 6 Coming Up at Gulfstream

The seventh race is coming up at Gulfstream, with scheduled post of 3:52 p.m.
It will be the start of the Rainbow 6, with a carryover of $154,834.
The feature 11th race is the $75,000 Miss Gracie Stakes at 7 1/2 furlongs on turf for 3-year-old fillies.

Rainbow 6 Opener Won By 4-5 Favorite

Kintra (1), the 4-5 favorite, won Thursday's  fourth  race at  Gulfstream to start the Rainbow 6.

The carryover coming in was $120,802.  Bettors added  $66,391 to the Rainbow 6  pool.

Kintra beat the late-riuning Curled (2) by three-quarters of a length in the five-furlong turf race--a $65,000 maiden special weight for 2-year-old fillies.

Gulfstream Back on Turf for Thursday Card

Gulfstream Park is back on the turf on Thursday with the course listed as firm and the dirt track listed as fast.

First post is 2:00 p.m. for the nine-race card.
The second, fourth, sixth and ninth races are scheduled for the turf.

There are no stakes races on the card.

The Rainbow 6 has a carryover of $120,812.  It is on races four to nine, with the sequence scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.

Gulfstream has not had live racing since Sunday, when wet conditions forced it to  move all five scheduled for turf races to the
dirt.

Last Friday, Gulfstream moved all five scheduled-for-turf races to dirt and last Saturday it moved four of its five scheduled-for-turf races to dirt.
Sunday was the 44th day of Gulfstream’s summer meet.  Through that day, it has moved 65 of its 211 scheduled-for-turf races to dirt due to rain and wet conditions.

At its 52-day summer meet in 2017, Gulfstream moved 47 of 279 races from turf to dirt.
At its 57-day summer meet in 2016, Gulfstream had 296 scheduled-for-turf races
and moved only six to dirt.

Gulfstream Schedule, Rainbow 6 Carryover is $120,802 on Thursday

Gulfstream Park will resume live racing on Thursday—following dark days on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Here are details of what lies ahead for the four race days Thursday through Sunday.

The carryover on the Rainbow 6 is $120,802.  It will be on races four to nine with the sequence scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m.

The carryover has grown because Gulfstream has gone eight straight race days (since Thursday Aug. 30) without the jackpot payoff requirement of just one ticket with the winners of all six Rainbow 6 races. The jackpot consists of the entire start-of-day carryover plus 80 percent of the day’s bets on the Rainbow 6.

On Sunday, there were 22 tickets with the winners of all six races.  Each received $2,150.80 on the 20-cents only bet.

Gulfstream is open seven days a week for
The carryover coming in was $99,785.

Another Soggy Day at Gulfstream

The sixth of the day' eleven races is coming up on a soggy Sunday at Gulfstream Park.

For the third day in a row, rain has forced Gulfstream to move all scheduled-for-turf races to the dirt track.  It is sealed and listed as good.  But expect it to be soon downgraded to sloppy.

There are  no stakes  races on the card.

Gulfstream Rainbow 6 Carryover at $81,000

By Jim Freer and Barry Unterbrink
Friday on this blog, we said we expected that wet conditions would result in a bigger than usual number of tickets with all six winners in the Gulfstream Park Rainbow 6.

We were on target.  There were 53 winning Rainbow 6 tickets  and each  paid $511.82 on the 20-cent only  bet.

That was the highest number of winning Rainbow 6 tickets since this past Aug. 9.  That day there were 59 winnistng tickets and each paid $413.00.
With multiple winning tickets the carryover grew from $69,302 to $81,024 and is six days old.
On Saturday the Rainbow 6 will be on races seven to 12 with the sequence scheduled to start at 3:52 p.m.
The card has twelve races with first post of 12:45 p.m.

Gulfstream has two stakes races on Saturday.
The $75,000 Trinniberg is six furlongs on dirt for 3-year-olds and up. It is the fifth race with scheduled post of 2:47 p.m.

The $100,000 Sheer Drama is seven furlongs on dirt for Florida-bred fillies and mares 3-years-old and up. It is the 11th race with scheduled post of 6:03 p.m.
Gulfstream had two stakes races on Friday.

Deland won the $75,000 Mo Exception at one mile on dirt for 3-years and up.
One of a Kind won the $75,000 The Vid for 3-year-olds and up. It was  1 1/16 miles on dirt—originally scheduled for turf.  Scratches reduced the number of starters to four.
Friday Rainbow 6
As rain fell, Gulfstream late Friday morning  moved its five scheduled-for-turf races to  the dirt track that was listed as sloppy and was sealed. That gave bettors ample time for wet-track handicapping the Rainbow 6  sequence that began on the fourth race at 3:30 p.m.
Scratches reduced the number of Rainbow 6 starters to 40. That lessened the chance of a single ticket with all six winners that woud take down the jackpot of the full carryover plus 80 percent of the day’s Rainbow 6 bets.
Wagering on the Rainbow 6 was a low $48,056.
Gulfstream took out 20 percent, divided 56 percent among winning tickets and added 24 percent to the carryover.
Numbers on the winning horses were 5-7-6-7-7-11. None were at higher odds than 6-1.
In all nine races the winner was no worse than third after a half mile—making it still another day when speed held up in the slop.
For Saturday, the Weather Channel forecast is for a 40 percent chance of thunderstorms during racing  hours. We will have reports on track conditions on our blog.

Rainbow 6 Starts With Win by 6-1Mar Shot

Mary Lee and Me (5) at 6-1  won Gulfstream's fourth race to start the Rainbow 6.
We will recap the Rainbow 6 and Gulfstream;s other races at the end of the race day.

A Good Day to Play the Rainbow 6?

The scheduled post of 3:30 p.m. is coming up for Gulfstream's fourh race, which  is the start of the Rainbow 6.

There is still time to finish some off-the-turf handicapping. We think it is a good day to play rhe Rainbow 6--if you are content to aim to win a couple thousand dollars, rather than thinking jackpot-only.

*Rain-related scratches have reduced the number of runers to 40--or  6.67 per race.

*The carryover of $69,000 is attractive, but not big enough  to bring in the syndicates and whales who go deep in many races.

*Barring two or three big-odds winners it could be a relatively easy day to  handicap. There should be about $70,000 bet--leaving about $40,000 to be divided among winning tickets.
Good luck.

Rainbow 6 Opener Won by 9-2 Shot

Steady Earner (7), at 9-2, won Gulfstream's seventh race on Sunday to start the Rainbow 6

The carryover coming in was $39,355. This is the fourth day of the current Rainbow 6 cycle.

Bettors added $73,301 to the pool.  That was the biggest Rainbow 6 betting since $87,304 on Friday Aug. 24.

On this past Saturday the Rainbow 6 included three stakes races.  But it drew just $64,113 in bets.

Today's Rainbow 6 wagering indicates that simulcast and ADW fans who planned to bet on Gulfstream's special Labor Day card are doing so despite races being taken off the turf.

We will be back with an update before the 12th race.

Rainbow 6 -- First Half

We could not decipher the last three races in the Gulfstream Rainbow 6.

Here is what we suggest for the first three races in the sequence
7th  --  4
8th --  3 6
9th --  8  11

In the 7th race, the 6 horse Prolific Runner should be charging at the end to hit the board

Early Results at Wet Gulfstream

For early trends at rainy and sloppy-surface Gulfstream,  this is what happened in the first three races (all for claimers).

Thus far, it is a mixed bag.  Note that on Sunday early leaders held on to win only four of the twelve races on a sloppy and sealed track.

First race  -- Outrun, at 2-1, took the lead entering the turn and won by 16 lengths -- yes 16 -- over R Baby Driver.

Outrun ran seven furlongs in 1:24.13--a solid time in a claiming race no matter the conditions.

It was the first race on a wet track for Outrun, a 4-year-old gelded son of Medaglia d'Oro.

Second race -- Truge (3) rallied on the outside and won in a respectable 1:11.81 over six furlongs.

Third race -- At five furlongs, moved from turf to dirt.  Greeley is Back (7) led at every call and held off Players Luck for a narrow win,  The winning time was a respectable 57.81 seconds.

Greeley is Back came in with a second place finish in his only start on a wet track. Players Luck now has a win and two seconds in three starts on wet dirt surfaces.

The 50 cent Pick 3 paid $36.85.
--Jim Freer

Underway at Gulfstream

Outrun (2), at 2-1, won Monday's first race amid a downpour at Gulfstream Park.

The carried-over Super H-5 was hit and it paid $315.20 for the minimum $1 bet. There were an undetermined number of winning tickets.

The order of finish was 2-5-6-4-8.

The Super Hi-5 carryover coming in was $5,580. Bettors added $16,871 to the pool.

Gulfstream Off the Turf for Monday

Due to heavy rain from Tropical Storm Gordon, Gulfstream Park has moved all five  of Monday’s scheduled-for-turf races to the dirt track that is listed as Sloppy and is sealed.

Those races are the first, third, fifth, ninth and twelfth.
First post is 12:45 p.m. for the 12-race card at Gulfstream in Hallandale Beach, Fla.—about halfway between Miami and Fort Lauderdale.

We will have updates, including scratches, on this blog.

At 10:30 a.m,, heavy rain is falling throughout the Miami-Fort Lauderdale area, and forecasts call for it to continue into the early evening.

After Gordon crosses the southern end of the Florida peninsula, it will intensify as it heads into the Gulf of Mexico and moves toward expected landfall in Louisiana or Mississippi.
