Gulfstream Off the Turf for Thursday

Gulfstream Park will have four straight days of racing from Thursday (today) through Sunday--and it is off to a wet start.

Rain has been falling since early afternoon, and Gulfstream has moved races four, six, seven, nine and eleven from the turf to the dirt track that is listed as sloppy.

There are no  stakes races on the card.

The big attraction is a Rainbow 6 carryover of $424,272--which appears to be Gulfstream's largest ever built up for that bet over just four race days .

The 20 cents per combinatn only bet is on races six to elevrn with the sequence scheduled to start at 3:45 p.m.

Gulfstream is again racing with no spectators on site, and thus will not have any on-track betting. It is doing that as part of its compliance with government guidances on limiting the number of persons at public events during the coronaviris (COVID-19) pandemic.

BAUER'S BETS: FAST & FIRM at TAMPA

A very competitive group of Sophomores will do battle at a mile on the grass under $75,000 NW1X Optional Claiming conditions, in Race 5. Scheduled post time is 3 PM.

TABLED (5) from the powerful (29% winners in Tampa) Mike Stidham stable, gets my bet here. This gelding obviously likes the Tampa turf, scoring a two length Maiden claiming victory in her first try on the sod (at today's distance) in late February. He followed that with an excellent effort on April Fools day, only missing by a neck at a mile and one-sixteenth, with similar rivals as he will face today. Better yet, he logged a bullet work on April 17, four furlongs in 48. flat. Appears to be in fine fettle now. The half a furlong turn-back here should help. Angel Suarez has the return engagement.

THE BET  $10 to win on TABLED (5) and a $2 exacta box with MR. KRINGLE (10) and ASSIDUOUSLY (3).  3,5,10.  Total Bet $22
GOOD LUCK!!

PREVIOUS RESULTS  4/26   Had the chalky winner and exacta. Win bet returned $28, exacta $15, on the $28 bet. A profit of $15 for the day, bankroll is now plus $48.60.

Gulfstream Fast and Good for Sunday

The dirt track is listed as Fast and the turf is listed as Good for Sunday's 11-race card now uunderway at Gulfstream Park.

There are no stakes races on the Sunday card.

There  is a carryover of $290,467 on he Rainbow 6.  The 20 cents per combination bet is on races
six to deleven with the sequence scheduled to start at 3:18 p.m.

Gulfstream  is again racing with no spectators, and thus no on-track betting. It has been doing that since March 13 as part of its compliance with federal, state  and local government guidances on limiting the number of people at public events during the coronavirus  (COVID-19) pandemic.

BAUER'S BETS: FAST at TAMPA, NO TURF RACING TODAY

Race 6 presents a group of fast sophomore Fillies sprinting five furlongs on the main track, originally carded for the the turf. Post time for this dash, under $75,000 NW1X Optional Claiming conditions is scheduled for 3:15 PM.

BUCKY'S DRAMA (8) was the original choice and remains so, as she has a good turn of foot on the grass, but also won her last race on dirt at today's distance. She figures to take the lead out of the gate under Centeno and might not get caught. The six-time Tampa leading rider rode this Filly to a close second by a neck finish at five panels on the grass, should  go well here.

THE BET $10 to win on BUCKY'S DRAMA (8) and a $3 exacta box with MALIBEAUTY (9) and HALFINTHEWRAPPER(6) 6,8,9. Total Bet $28
GOOD LUCK!!

PREVIOUS RESULTS  4/25  Lost $28. The bankroll is plus $33.60.

Dr Post Wins Unbridled at Gulfstream

Dr  Post (3), the even-money favorite, beat Attachment Rate (7), the 2-1 second choice, by two lengths in Saturday's $75,000 Unnbridled Stakes for 3-year-olds at Gulfstream Park.

Americanus (2) finished third in the 1 1/16 mile dirt stakes.

The race had six starters, following the scratch of South Bend.

Dr Post was riddden by Irad Ortiz Jr. and won in 1:43.07 on the track that is listed as Fast despite periodic rain.

Dr Post was in tight traffic coming out of the final turn. Ortiz found a "split-horses" opening in mid-stretch and Dr Post powered ahead to his second career win in three starts.

He broke his maiden on March 29 at seven furlongs at Gulfstream.

Dr Post, a son of Quality Road, is traained by Todd Pletcher for owner St  Elias Stable.

The race was the fourth leg in the Rainbow 6, with a carryover f $145,470.

Winners of the first four legs were:
7th race -- Venezuelan Hug (4)  9-5
8th race --  Scars are Cool (2)  5-1
9th race -- Dr Post (3) 1-1
10th race - New Year (3)   9-2

Unbridled Stakes Heads Gulfstream Saturday Card

Gulfstream Park on Saturday will have the first  stakes race of its 2020 spring meet.

BAUER'S BETS: GOOD at TAMPA NO TURF RACING TODAY

Today's play is in Race 4, $8,000 Claiming NW2L three year-old and up Fillies and Mares compete at eight and one-half furlongs on the main track. Post time is scheduled for 1:58 PM.

WICKED WITCH (2) gets her claiming tag cut in half today and appears to be in a good spot for the able Juan Avalia (18% winners at Tampa) barn.
This sophomore filly was a three length winner with $16,000 Maiden Claimers in her first try around two turns back on New Year's day. Since then, she has logged four off the board finishes against higher priced rivals. Improvement is expected as six-time Tampa champion Dan Centeno rides for the first time. An inviting bet at anywhere near the 8/1 morning line.

THE BET  $10 to win on WICKED WITCH (2) and a $3 exacta box with JACKIES DREAM (8) and MALICED (3).   2,3,8.    Total Bet $28.
GOOD LUCK!!

PREVIOUS RESULTS  4/24  Had the win and exacta. $10 win bet returned $33, the exacta $30.40., a profit of $41.40 for the day. Bankroll is now plus $61.60.

Tampa Bay to Extend Meet Through May 30

HRFLA Staff Report
Tampa Bay Downs has received permission from Florida racing regulators to extend its racing season through May 30.

The Oldsmar, Fla., track was scheduled to have racing through May 3.

Starting the week of May 4, Tampa Bay will have races on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Through May 3, it also has races on Sundays.

In its application for twelve extra race dates, Tampa Bay Downs noted to the Florida Division of Pari-Mutuel Wagering that in most years many trainers have by now sent horses back to tracks in northern states for spring racing.

But many of those tracks are closed for training and racing because of government orders or by their own decisions.

The regulators accepted Tampa Bay's contention that it is helping trainers and owners who otherwise might have problems relocating horses during May.

In its expanded schedule, it is expected that Tampa Bay will continue to race with no spectators on site, and thus no live wagering. It is doing that as part of its efforts to comply  with government guidances on limiting the number of persons at public events amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Many racetracks and many OTB offices that are usually sources of bets on Tampa Bay races have been closed for several weeks.

Fans can still watch and wager on Tampa Bay races via Advance Deposit Wagering (ADW) Internet and phone accounts.

According to Equibase, Tampa Bay is among the five U.S. tracks that had races this week and are scheduled to have races next week.

The other four are Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Fla., Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, Ark., Fonner Park in Grand Island, Neb., and Will Rogers Downs in Claremore. Okla.

Like Tampa Bay  Downs, those four tracks  are racing without spectators on site.

Gulfstream: Rainbow 6 Carryover is $68,408; First Stakes of Meet is Unbridled on Saturday

Gulfstream Park's ten-race Friday card is underway, with conditions listed as Fast and Firm.

The Rainbow 6 will be on races five to ten, with the sequence set to start at 3:11 p.m.  The carryover is $68,408 on the 20 cents per combination only bet.

On Saturday, Gulfstream will have its first stakes race of this year's spring meet.

The $75,000UInbridled Stakes is 1 1/16 miles on dirt for 3-year-olds.

The race has seven entrants.  Dr. Post, trained by Todd Pletcher with Irad Ortiz Jr. riding, and Attachment Rate, trained by Dale Romans with Luis Saez riding, are likely favorites.

On Saturday, we will, have a preview in the morning and coverage during the afternoon.

BAUER'S BETS: SLOPPY at TAMPA NO TURF RACING TODAY

Race 5 features three year-old and up Fillies and Mares at eight and one-half furlongs on the main track under $8,000 Claiming NW3L conditions. Post time is scheduled for 2:25 PM.

LADY BREANNA (8) drops to the lowest level in her career and stretches out on the dirt for leading trainer Gerald Bennett. She looks to rebound after a pair of less than good efforts, (a turf race and a sprint with a poor start) red hot Sammy Camacho was aboard for both trips. Camacho stays on (a good sign) and a wet track should help. She has been in the money twice out of three tries on off going. Expect big improvement today.

THE BET:  $10 to win on LADY BREANNA (8) and a $2 exacta box with DUDE'S SECRET (10) and VALERIE FIRST (7). 7,8,10. Total Bet $22.
  GOOD LUCK!!

PREVIOUS RESULTS:  4/22  Lost $22. The bankroll is now plus $20.20

BAUER'S BETS: FAST & GOOD at TAMPA--RACES 2 & 4 MOVED TO MAIN TRACK

A full field of ten older $10,000 Claiming Fillies and Mares will go a mile on the lawn in Race 6. Scheduled post time is 3 PM.

It appears that there isn't much early pace signed on in this race and the runner who can get the early lead has a big edge. RACING ROSEMARY (2) is the one who could steal the whole thing under red hot Samy Camacho. Two races ago,(with Camacho aboard) she raced in a seven furlong dirt affair and was only a length off the lead in a 22.3 first quarter. That's fast enough to go to the front with this group. She won on grass and around two turns last season. Today, she stretches out in the third start back from her seasonal layoff, a good bet at 6/1 morning line.

THE BET  $10 to win on RACING ROSEMARY (2) and a $2 exacta box with DURVEN (1) and CROWN OF JOY (4)  1,2,4.   Total Bet $22.

PREVIOUS RESULTS   4/19  The $10 win bet returned a chalky $16, missed the exacta. Lost $6 for the day, bankroll is now plus $42.20.

Gulfstream Resumes Thursday with Ten Races, Following Sunday's Spring Record ADW Betting

By Jim Freer and Barry Unterbrink

Gulfstream Park will have a new Rainbow 6 pool when it resumes racing on Thursday, with ten races and first post of 1:00 p.m.

The Rainbow 6 will be on races five to eleven with the sequence scheduled to start at 3:11 p.m. It is a 20-cent per combination bet, with no consolation payoffs such as five of six winners.

It will be Gulfstream's first race day since last Sunday, when it had a mandatory payoff on its  Rainbow 6 which drew wagering of $7,325,324.  HorseRacingFLA's reviews of Equibase charts indicate that was a record for the Rainbow 6 on a Gulfstream spring meet day, dating back to 2016.

No Spectators Gulfstream on  Sunday raced with no spectators on site, and thus had no live betting, and it will do the same on Thursday.  That is part of its efforts to comply with government guidances on the size of gatherings at public events during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

According to anecdotal reports, Gulfstream and the other handful of tracks that are stll racing (all with no spectators) are getting most of their  bets via Internet and phone from advance deposit wagering (ADW) accounts.

Gulfstream's annual spring meet runs from early April thrrough late June.

Our research indicates that prior to last Sunday the spring meet record for Rainbow 6 betting was $3,468,161 on Saturday June 30, 2018. That was Summit of Speed day, with three graded stakes sprint races.

Sunday Results
On Sunday, each Rainbow 6 ticket with all six winners was paid $20,158.94 for a 20 cent bet. HRFLA's review of Equibase charts shows there were 358 such winning tickets.

Program numbers of the winning horses were 3-2-11-8-5-1.

The highest odds for one of the winners was 7-1 on Follow the Flag in the 11th and final race.

Mandatory Payouts
Last Sunday was a highly publicized mandatory payout day for the Rainbow 6.

All tickets with the six winning Rainbow six horses would share in a payout of the Rainbow 6 jackpot (full in-coming carryover plus 80 percent of the day's new Rainbow 6 bet).

On non-mandatory days, Gulfstream pays out the jackpot only when there is just one ticket with all six Rainbow 6 winners.

When there ae multiple tickets with all six winners  on non-mandatory days,  Gulfstream takes out 20 percent of the day's Rainbow 6 bet.  It then distributes 56 percent among tickets with six winners and adds 24 percent to the carryover.

Gulfstream had gone the first eleven days of its spring meet without the jackpot payout requirement of just one ticket with all six
Rainbow 6 winners.

Thus for Sunday, the carryover had grown to an attractive $1,366,160.

Tampa Bay Downs in Oldsmar, la., and Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, Ark., were the other tracks that had racing last Sunday.

They are among popular tracks with ADW bettors, but very rarely have more handle than Gulfstream.

Lower Odds Horses Wn First Five Legs of Ranbow 6

Here are the winners of the first five legs in Sunday's Rainbow  6 at  Gulfstream Park  (program numbers  in parentheses).

Going into the 11th and final ace there are 7,164  live tickets (combinations) in the Rainbow 6, with no horses single, which is   a  20-cents per combinaton only bet.

6th race --Barrega (3), 1-1
7th race -- Tiz Possible Dear  (2) , 5-2
8th race-- Street Ready (11)  6-1
9th race--Yes I See (8) 5-2
10th race - No Way Jose (5) 6-1

There is mandatory payout of the Rainbow 6 jackpot, regardless of the number  of tickets with all six winners.  The jackpot consists of the full coming-in carryover, in this case $1,366.160) and 80 percent of the day's new Rainbow 6 bet.\

The exact amount of today's bet is not yet available.  Just before the gate opened for the sixth race, Gulfstream flashed a graphic that showed more than $6 million had been bet on the Rainbow 6.

Gulfstream Analysts' Rainbow 6 Selections

From Gulfstream Park
With videos included, here are  the selections  for today's Rainbow 6 by Gulfstream Park TV show hosts and racing analysts Ron Nicoletti, Acacia Courtney  and  Jason Blewitt.

First race post Sunday is 12:55 p.m. The first leg of the Rainbow 6 will be Race 6.

The Rainbow 6 sequence will span Races 6-11, including optional claiming allowances in Races 6, 8, 9 and 10, as well as a mile maiden special weight race on turf that drew a full field in Race 11.

Nicoletti is going with a $162 ticket with only two horses in Race 10 (Cariba and Bering Strait). Courtney’s ticket comes in at $144. She decides to use only two horses in Race 7 (Brooke All Mine and Put Position) and and Race 9 (Blakey and Yes I See). Blewitt is playing a $115.20 ticket using four horses in Races 8 and 10 and going with just Trappezoid and Blakey in Race 9

Gulfstream Fast and Fim on Mandatory Payout Day

Conditions are listed as Fast and Firm for today's  eleven-race card at Gulfstream.

First post was at 12:55 p.m. on a mandatory payout day for the Rainbow 6.

The 20-cents per combination bet is on races six to eleven with the sequence scheduled to start at 3:23 p.m.

This linkhttps://www.equibase.com/static/entry/RaceCardIndexGP041920USA-EQB.html to the Equibase  Web site is the Gulfstream entries for Sunday. It has click-ons to handicapping material. Some of it is free. Some, including past performances, is at cost.

At about 1:30 p.m. we will post a news release from Gulfstream with the Rainbow 6 analysis and selections of its handicapping team.

The Rainbow 6 carryover coming in is $1,366,160.  It has grown because Gulfstream has gone all eleven days of its spring meet without the jackpot payoff  requirement of just one ticket with the winners of all six races.

The jackpot consists of the entire comng-in carryover and 80 percent of the day's new Rainbow 6 bet (20 percent takeout).

Gulfsream will pay that all out today--regardless of the number of tickets with all six winners.

Gulfstream is guaanteeing that the pool will be at least $5 million.

We expect that today's wagering on the Rainbow 6 will be closer to $10 million--even though it is another non-spectator day at Gulfstream.

Since March 13 Gulfstream has been doing that in its efforts to comply with government guidances regarding the number of people at public events amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Tampa Bay Downs in Oldsmar, Fla., and Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, Ark.,  are the only other North American tracks with thoroughbred racing today. Both  are racing with no spectators on site.

Most U.S. pari-mutuels and OTB offices, which are main sources for simulcast betting on Gulfstream and other tracks, are closed.

That has left Advance Deposit Wagering (ADW) via Internet and phone as the major source of horse bets. Gulfstream is always one of the most popular tracks among ADW bettors.

Gulfstream Mandatory Rainbow 6 Payout is Today

Sunday, March 19 -- Gulfstream Park has a heavily anticipated mandatory payout today on is Rainbow 6- and the money pile starts with a carryover of $1,366,160.

Gulfstream is guaranteeing that the pool will be at least $5 million.

First post is 12:55 p.m. for an 11-race card.  The Rainbow 6, a 20-cents per combination only bet is on races six to eleven, with the sequence scheduled to start at 3:23 p.m.

Today, Gulfstream will pay out the Rainbow 6 jackpot regrdless of the number of tckets with the winners of all six Rainbow 6 races.

The jackpot consists of the entire comng-in carryover plus 80 percent of the day's new Rainbow 6  bet (20  percent takeout).

On non-mandatory days, Gufstream pays out the jackpot only if there is just one ticket with all six winners.

When there are multiple winning, Gulfstream has its  20  percent takeout.  It dividdes 56 percen of the day's Rainbow 6  bet among the tickets with six winners and adds 2 percemnt to the carryover.

BAUER'S BETS: FAST & NO TURF RACING at TAMPA

Today's play is in Race 5, Post time is scheduled for 2:45 PM.  A competitive field of sophomore fillies will run a mile and forty yards on the dirt under $32,000 Optional Claiming conditions.

QUEEN'S EMBRACE (3) deserves top billing in this contest, based on her three for five career record for the powerful O'Connell outfit. Her running style (stalker and closer) gives her an additional edge today, as there are a few need to lead types who should provide some pace for her to run down. She has beaten several of these contenders in her past victories.

THE BET  $10 to win on QUEEN'S EMBRACE (3) and a $2 exacta box with VOLANDER (7) and TEMPTATION EYES (5)   3,5,7.     Total Bet $22
GOOD LUCK!!

PREVIOUS RESULTS  4/18  Once again, the win bet was second, but we had the $2 exacta. The $36.20 payoff gave a profit of $14.20 for the day. The bankroll is now plus $48.20.

Late Turf Races Moved to Dirt at Gulfstream

Due to heavy rains, Gulfstream Park has moved today's seventh, ninth and eleventh races from the turf to the dirt track that is listed as Sloppy.

The surface change was made before the start of the Rainbow 6 (races secven to twelve). Thus, there will be no races with ALL horses counting as winners in that sequence.

A list of scratches can be found on this link
https://www.equibase.com/static/latechanges/html/latechangesGP-USA.html  to the Equibase Web  site.

Late Turf Races Moved to Dirt at Gulfstream

Gulfstream Has Mandatory Rainbow 6 Payoff on Sunday

Gulfstream Park will have a mandatory payout on its  Rainbow 6 on Sunday, and racing fans around the country are excited about the prospect of a $10 million-plus pool.

The size of the Sunday pool will depend on what happens in the Rainbow 6 on Saturday at Gulfstream in Hallandale Beach, Fla.

On both days. Gulfstream will race with no spectators and thus no on-track betting.  Gulfstream has been  doing that since March 13 as part of its efforts to comply with federal, state  and Broward County guidances on limiting the number of people at public events during the coronavirus pandemic.

Bettors may still watch and wager on Gulfstream races via advance deposit wagering (ADW) accounts.

On Saturday, Gulfstream has a 12 -race card.

The Rainbow 6 will ben races seven to twelve with the sequence scheduled to start at 3:48 p.m.

The Rainbow 6 carryover for Saturday is $1,195,986.  The carryover has grown because Gulfstream has gone the first ten days of its spring meet without the jackpot payoff requirement of just one ticket with the winners of all six Rainbow 6 races.

The jackpot consists of the  entire coming-in carryover plus 80 percent of the day's new Rainbow 6 bet.

If there are multiple wining tickets on Saturday, the carryover will extend into Sunday and Gulfstream will guarantee that the pool will be at least $5 million.

On Sunday, Gulfstream  will divide the jackpot payoff among all tickets with six winners--regardless the number of them.

On Sunday, Gulfstream  will pay out the full pools and have no carryovers on the Late Pick 5 and on the Super Hi-5 on the 11th and final race.  If there are no tickets with all places correct, four of five will be a winning ticket.

Gulfstream Thursday: First 2-YO race of 2020; Rainbow 6 Carryover of $905,177

Gulfstream Park  on Thursday will have its first race for 2-year olds in its 2020 season.

It will be the day's second race, with scheduled post of 1:34 p.m. and is a $65,000 maiden special weight at 4 1/2 furlongs on dirt for fillies.

The 2-YO race will be part of an eleven-race card with first post of 1:00 p.m.

It has eight entrants. Likely favorites are:  Lime, trained and bred by Wesley Ward with Tyler Gaffalione riding, and Awesome View, trained by Ralph Nicks for breeder-owner Jacks or Better Farm with Edgard Zayas  riding.

It will be the first "no lasix" race under a multi-track agreemen that bans the use of that drug on 2-year-olds within 24 hours of a race.  The drug, also known  as furosimide, is a diuretic that prevents some horses from  bleeding during a race.  But many horsemen and industry officials note that it can have side effects, including weight loss.

*The only Thursday carryover is on the Rainbow 6 - at $905,177.  The 20-cent per combination only bet is on races six to eleven with the sequence scduled to start  at 3:38 p.m.

The carryover has grown because through the first eight days of Gulfstream's spring meet there has not been a day with the jackpot payoff requirement of just one ticket with all six winners in the Rainbow6.

Gulfstream has guaranteed that today's Rainbow6 pool will be at least $1.5 million.  If there is just  one  winning ticket, Gulfstream will put in the remaining money if the combination of the carryover and today's Rainbow 6 bets are less than $1.5 million.

*Gulfstream's Thursday card will be run with no spectators, and thus will have no on-track betting.  That is part of its compliance with government guidances on the size of public gatherings amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Most racetracks and OTB offices that take simulcasting bets on Bulfstream are closed.

Fans can  still watch and wager on Gulfstream races by phone and Internet using advane ddepost wagering (ADW) accounts.

Gulfstream announced Thursday evening a mandatory payout of the Rainbow 6 pool on Sunday, April 19th. See our website ad below for the link to their site. www.horseracingfla.com

Three year olds and up will sprint seven panels in Race 7, under $16,000 NW2L Claiming conditions. Post time is scheduled for 3:30 PM.

Has ran well fresh in the past. Mike Allen rides for trainer Robert Dobbs Jr.

Most of the other racetracks and Off Track Betting locations that are sources of simulcast betting on Gulfstream and Tampa Bay are closed.

HorseRacingFLA's review of Equibase material shows  that the two Florida tracks are among the only five North American tracks that are running thoroughbred races this week.

The others are Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, Ark., Fonner Park in Grand Island, Neb., and Will Rogers Downs in Claremore, Okla.

Approximately a dozen other tracks are closed because of orders from state and local governments or because of their own decisions,

Gulfstream is the Only U.S. Thoroughbred Track Racing on Easter

Gulfstream Park is the only U.S. track with thoroughbred  racing  today--Easter Sunday.

We are monitoring the late races, and we will resume our reports on Gulfstream this  evening.

Tampa Bay Downs does not have racing today, as it continues its history of being dark on Easter Sunday.

Tampa Bay will resume racing this coming Wednesday, April 15, with nine races and first post of 12:30 p.m

Gulfstream,  in Hallandale  Beach, Fla., is again racing with no spectators and thus with no on-track betting.  That is one of the precautions Gulfstream is taking because of  the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fans can still watch and wager on Gulfstream, Tampa and other "no spectator" tracks by using Advance Deposit Wagering (ADW) accounts.

Saturday: Racing Only at Gulfstream, Tampa and Oaklawn.

This  is Saturday of Easter/Passover weekend, and only three U.S. racetracks are having Thoroughbred racing.

Those tracks are Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Fla., Tampa Bay Downs in Oldsmar, Fla., and Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs. Ark.

First posts (All EDT) are 12:15 p.m. at Tampa, 12:30 p.m. at Gulfstream and 1:35 at Oaklawn.

Several other  major tracks are closed--not because of religious considerations or observances but because of concerns about possible spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Gulfstream, Tampa and Oaklawn are racing with no spectators --and thus no live handle.  They are doing that as part of their efforts  to comply with federal and state guidances for limiting the number of persons at public events amid the COVID-1 pandemic.

The three tracks can be bet on through advance deposit wagering (ADW) Internet and phone accounts.

The only early carryover is $5,827 on the Super Hi 5 in the first race at Gulfstream.

We will have coverage this afternoon and evening on this blog.

*According to Equibase, Gulfstream  will be the only U.S. thoroughbred track racing on Easter Sunday.

BAUER'S BETS: FAST & FIRM at TAMPA

A field of fast older Fillies and Mares will sprint five furlongs on the grass under $16,000 NW1X Optional Claiming conditions, in Race 3. Post time is scheduled for 1:15 PM.

TRACY ANN'S LEGACY (4) is a perfect two for two on the Tampa turf. She comes into this contest off an impressive win on March 22, with similar rivals as she faces today. Has the edge over this group. Raul Mena rides for the Juan Arriagada barn.

THE BET  $25 to win on TRACY ANN'S LEGACY (4) and a $2 exacta box with PINS AND NEEDLES (3) and HANDSOME GIRL (5). 3,4,5    Total Bet $37     GOOD LUCK!!

Late Pick 5 Coming Up at Tampa

The fourth raace is coming up at Tampa Bay Downs, with post likely around 1:55 p;.m.

There is still time to get in, on a bet that could have a new pool of $150,000 or  more.

BAUER'S BETS: FAST & FIRM at TAMPA

$10,000 Three year-old and up Maiden Claimers will go a mile and forty yards on the main track in Race 5. Post time is scheduled for 2:22 PM.

ONE MORE DRINK (2) is the morning line favorite and appears to be the one to catch under Daniel Centeno. This twice beaten chalk (at this level and distance) is vulnerable to being overtaken in the late stages. SILENT MISCHIEF (10) has the running style to press and pass, and showed improvement last time out under red-hot Samy Camacho. This should be a very interesting rider's race, with two of Tampa's best jockeys riding the top contenders.

THE BET  $10 to win on SILENT MISCHIEF (10) and a $5 exacta box with ONE MORE DRINK (2) 2,10. Also a $2 exacta box with those two and PAPA RALPH J (6) 2,6,10. Total Bet $32
GOOD LUCK!!

PREVIOUS RESULTS:  4/8  The win bet ran second (again), but we cashed a $7 exacta for a return of $119.70. The profit is $87.70 for the day. The bankroll is now plus $115.30.

Gulfstream Rainbow 6 Carryover Grows to $465,000

On Friday, Gulfstream Park  will have a carryover of $465,998.40 on its Rainbow 6.

First post will be 1:00 p.m. for a ten-race card.  The Rainbow 6, a 20 cents per combination only bet,  will be on races five to ten with the sequence scheduled to start at 3:08 p.m.

On Thursday there were seven tickets with the winners of all six Rainbow 6 races. Each was paid $32,556.34 on a 20-cent bet.

Program numbers of the winning horses were 8-8-4-5-7-3.

Gulfstream raced with no spectators, and thus no live handle, on Thursday--as it has done each race day since March 13.

It will do that again on Friday as it complies with federal and state government guidances on limiting the number of people at public gatherings.

Gulfstream is one of several "no spectator" tracks that have  have been generating large shares of their handle via Internet and phone betting of advance deposit wagering (ADW) accounts.

*In Friday's 10th race, and last leg of the Rainbow 6, Passion Factor (3)  at 7-1 beat the 4-1 shot Act Like Artie (8) by a head. The race was a MSW at one mle on turf for 3-YO fillies.

As we reported prior to the race, there were 84 live Rainbow 6  tickets.  Only one had a singled horse--Starship Blanca  (1) at 96-1.  She was never in contention and finished tenth in the 12-horse field.

If Starship Blanca had won, she would have taken down a jackpot of about $690,000. That would have been a combination of the entire coming-in carryover of  $369,000 plus 80 percent of the day's Rainbow 6 bets of $407,025.

*On Friday morning, we will have a story with additional news about Gulfstream racing.

The result set up a Rainbow 6 payoff of $32,445.34 on the 20-cent only bet.  It came on another day of "no spectators" racing amid concern about the coronavirus (COVID-19).

By our calculations there were seven tickets with all six winning horses. Gulfstream does not regularly report the number of Rainbow 6 winning tickets. HorseRacingFLA obtains it by reviewing Euibase cgrts.

Winning ners of the six winning horses were 8-8-4-5-7-3,

On Friday, Gulstgrea will mhave a carfryover of465,998.40 on the RFainbow 6.

First post will be 1:00 p.m. for a ten-race card.  The Rainbow 6  will be on races five to ten ith the equence scheduled to stat  at 3:08 p.m.

The carryover has grown because Glfdstream has gone the

In Thursday's tenth race there were  84 live tickets in the one mile on turf MSWfor 3-YO fillies.

One tocket had  single--on 70-1 shot Starship Blanca.  She was never oin contention and finished last in the 12-horse field.

Gulfstream: One Ticket Has a Single n Rainbow 6

The tenth and final race is coming up at Gulfstream, and there  are 84 live tickets in the Rainbow 6.

Only one ticket has a horse singled.  THat is Starship Blanca (1) trained by Steve Dwoskin and ridden by Miguel Angel Vasquez.

With five minutes to post, she is 40-1.

The race is $46,000 MSW at one mile on turf for 3-Y0 fillies. There are 12 starters.

Gulfstream Resumes With Two Carryovers

Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach Fla.,will begin the second week of its spring meet on Thursday, with ten races and first post of 1:00 p.m. on another "no spectators" day.

Except when otherwise noted, Gulfstream has racing on Thursdays through Sundays in its spring meet that will end on June 30.

Thursday's first race has a carryover of $12,109 on the Super Hi-5.

The race is a $12,500 maiden claimer at one mile on turf for 3-year-olds. The purse is $17,000.  There are 14 entries, including two Also Eligibles.

The Rainbow 6 has a carryover of $368,329. The 20-cents per combination-only bet is on races five to ten, with the sequence set to start at 3:03 p.m.

The Weather Channel forecast is for high temperatures in the low 90s and a zero percent chance of rain.

Prior to the announcement of scratches, the ten races have 119 entrants. That is an indication of how some trainers have delayed sending horses to northern states because of uncertainties over when racing might resume amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Gulfstream on Thursday is racing without spectators and with no on-track betting.  It has done that each race day since March 13 as it attempts to comply with federal and state government guidances on limiting the number of people at public gatherings.

Many other racetracks and off-track betting locations that usually have significant bets on Gulfstream races are closed during the crisis.

Fans may still watch and wager on  Gulfstream races via Advance Deposit Wagering (ADW) services with Internet and phone betting.

Xpressbet, owned by Gulfstream's parent The Stronach Group, is among the largest ADWs--along with TVG, Twinspires and DRF Bets.

In the fourth, betting was an astounding $1,688,089 on the Late Pick 5. It had a carryover of $81,240.  And as we will explain later, Tampa Bay might be today's biggest attraction n U.S. sports betting.

A well-matched field of four year-old and up Fillies and Mares will travel a grassy mile under $16,000 Claiming conditions in Race 6. Post time is scheduled for 3 PM.

MONKEY MIND (5) might have an edge here as she drops to the lowest claiming level in her career, meeting $16,000 rivals for the first time.
Trainer Keith Nations has her fresh and ready with four local works since her last outing on January 17. Gulfstream Sets Records for One-Day Handle, and for Average Daily Handle at a Meet

By Jim Freer and Barry Unterbrink
Over the March 28th-29th weekend, Florida's Gulfstream Park set records of $53.8 million in one-day total handle and $11.3 million in average daily total handle for a race meet.

Those numbers are based on HorseRacingFLA's review of Equibase charts.

Gulfstream set the single-day record on Saturday March 28, Florida Derby day - and it did not include any "live handle."

2018 Gulfstream Park Xpress Bet Suite View

No Spectators.  As on all days since March 13, Gulfstream had "no spectators" racing on Florida Derby day as part of its efforts to comply with federal and state government guidances on limiting the size of public gatherings amid the  coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. No on-site media either, preventing us from reporting there on a day that usually has a festive atmosphere with a full house of more than 15,000 fans.

Gulfstream seldom provides detailed  beakdowns of the components of its handle. But it has said that its live share, like many other tracks, has dropped to the 10 percent range.  That share likely is larger on Florida Derby days with large  crowds.

While precise data are not readily available, there  are reports that the majority of the day's bets on Gulfstream races were done via advance deposit
wagering (ADW) Internet and phone accounts.

Many race tracks and Off-Track betting offices that usually have considerable betting on Gulfstream were closed due to the coronavirus scare.

Gulfstream, especially its championship meet, is always popular among ADW bettors.

And ... on last Saturday, Gulfstream was like an "only game in town" for many of them. Santa Anita Park, Aqueduct Racetrack, Laurel Park and Fair Grouds were among major tracks that did not have racing due to the coronavirus situation.

In addition, the NCAA men's basketball tournament was cancelled, the NBA season was suspended and Major League Baseball had postponed its opening weekend.

Previous Records
The previous Gulfstream record for daily average total handle was $10.6 million, set in the 2017-2018 championship meet.

Total handle is also known as all-sources handle. It is a combination of bets placed on a track's races from these locations: On site;
other pari-mutuels; off-track betting offices; advance deposit wagering (ADW) accounts; sports books in Nevada and other states; and sports books in various off-shore jurisdictions.

Gulfstream's previous single-day record of $49.9 million was set on March 30, 2018, which also was a Florida Derby day. Both days were rain free, with conditions Listed as Fast and Firm.

On both days, Gulfstream had fourteen races. Last Saturday, Gulfstream's attraction to bettors included an average field size 11.1 horses. It ran 155 starters - the most since HRFLA began tracking Gulfstream handle in July 2015.

For its 2018-2019 meet, Gulfstream had average daily total handle of $10.2 million. Florida Derby Day all sources handle was $47.5 million.

As of Friday morning, Gulfstream had not released any data on handle for its championship meet or on this year's first quarter. We will report that information when Gulfstream makes it available.

We have been tracking Gulfstream handle data since July, 2015. Gulfstream officials have consistently said that the numbers we report are accurate.

What's Next
Over the coming weekend we plan to post additional reports on Gulfstream's handle, field sizes and race purses for the championship meet.

We also will have early reports on the racing and handle for Gulfstream's spring meet, which opened this past Thursday.  Last year, the spring meet had average daily total handle of $6.2  million.

What is Essential?

Gulfstream is in Hallandale Beach, Fla., in Broward County.

It has continued to race even though Broward on March 22 issued an executive order rhat does not list horse racing among "essential" businesses that can keep operating while government states of emergency remain in effect.

Gulfstream told the Broward government that it feels it should be among nonessential businesses allowed to operate at mnimum capacity to maintain the value of property and operations.

Gulfstream noted that it is responsible for 3,200 horses and for backside employees who care for them. Those horses need  to train and race, Gulfstream said in communications with the Broward government.

Broward County accepted Gulfstream's conten tion on training, but not for racing.  It also has noted that no workers at Gulfstream have come down with the coronavirus.

Meanwhile, Gulfstream continues to emphasize the enhanced safety and health measures it has taken for jockeys, backside workers and track employees.

In recent days there have been no reports that Broward is planning to halt racing at Gulfstream.

It should be noted that as  Gulfstrream continues to race, it pays  taxes on racing-related revenues to Broward County and to Hallandale Beach.

Assuning a 20 percent blended rate, the takeout was about $10 million on the Florida Derby day's $53.8 million  in handle.

In percentages that are not readily determinable that takeout is divided among Gulfstream, the Florida Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association (FHBPA), ADWs and other sources of the betting.
