Gulfstream Park will have a new Rainbow 6 pool when it resumes racing on Thursday, with ten races and first post of 1:00 p.m.
The Rainbow 6 will be on races five to eleven with the sequence scheduled to start at 3:11 p.m. It is a 20-cent per combination bet, with no consolation payoffs such as five of six winners.
It will be Gulfstream's first race day since last Sunday, when it had a mandatory payoff on its Rainbow 6 which drew wagering of $7,325,324. HorseRacingFLA's reviews of Equibase charts indicate that was a record for the Rainbow 6 on a Gulfstream spring meet day, dating back to 2016.
No Spectators Gulfstream on Sunday raced with no spectators on site, and thus had no live betting, and it will do the same on Thursday. That is part of its efforts to comply with government guidances on the size of gatherings at public events during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
According to anecdotal reports, Gulfstream and the other handful of tracks that are stll racing (all with no spectators) are getting most of their bets via Internet and phone from advance deposit wagering (ADW) accounts.
Gulfstream's annual spring meet runs from early April thrrough late June.
Our research indicates that prior to last Sunday the spring meet record for Rainbow 6 betting was $3,468,161 on Saturday June 30, 2018. That was Summit of Speed day, with three graded stakes sprint races.
Sunday Results
On Sunday, each Rainbow 6 ticket with all six winners was paid $20,158.94 for a 20 cent bet. HRFLA's review of Equibase charts shows there were 358 such winning tickets.
Program numbers of the winning horses were 3-2-11-8-5-1.
The highest odds for one of the winners was 7-1 on Follow the Flag in the 11th and final race.
Mandatory Payouts
Last Sunday was a highly publicized mandatory payout day for the Rainbow 6.
All tickets with the six winning Rainbow six horses would share in a payout of the Rainbow 6 jackpot (full in-coming carryover plus 80 percent of the day's new Rainbow 6 bet).
On non-mandatory days, Gulfstream pays out the jackpot only when there is just one ticket with all six Rainbow 6 winners.
When there ae multiple tickets with all six winners on non-mandatory days, Gulfstream takes out 20 percent of the day's Rainbow 6 bet. It then distributes 56 percent among tickets with six winners and adds 24 percent to the carryover.
Gulfstream had gone the first eleven days of its spring meet without the jackpot payout requirement of just one ticket with all six Rainbow 6 winners.
Thus for Sunday, the carryover had grown to an attractive $1,366,160.
Tampa Bay Downs in Oldsmar, la., and Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, Ark., were the other tracks that had racing last Sunday.
They are among popular tracks with ADW bettors, but very rarely have more handle than Gulfstream.
