Bauer's Bets: Today's Results

Our choice in Race 3, GAIN AGAIN (4) ran third, so the win bet went down. The $2 exacta box with IVANYA (7) and ASHLEY'S ROSE (1) paid back $10.60, losing $11.40. The deficit is now $333.80. Tampa Bay Downs will be dark until Friday, May 4th.

Bauer's Bets: Fast & Firm At Tampa, Sunday's Play Of The Day

Here is a first-time starter who appears to be ready to graduate in her debut. GAIN AGAIN (4), a four year old filly from the Arnaud Delacour outfit meets a weak field of five $16,000 Maiden Claiming rivals going a mile on the lawn. She is well bred for the turf and has logged a dozen local workouts since February. Red-hot rider Samy Camacho has the mount, he and Delacour are a perfect 2 for 2 this season when they have teamed up and it would be no surprise to see this lass in the winner's circle.
THE BET: $10 to win on GAIN AGAIN (4) and a $2 exacta box with ASHLEY ROSE (1) and IVANYA (7) 1,4,7. Total Bet $22 GOOD LUCK

Sunday Rainbow 6 Carryover Will be $733,161

The 12th and final race is coming up atGulfstream and there are 209 live tickets in the Rainbow 6.

But there are no tickets with any horses singled.

Thus there will be another carryover on Sunday--of   $733,161

First post will be 1:10 pm.. for an 11-race card.  The Rainbow 6 will be on races six to  eleven.

Rainbow 6 Starts With Win by 4-5 Favorite

Rethinkme (9),the 4-5 favorite, won Gulfstream's seventh race--to start Saturday's Rainbow 6.

The carryover coming in was $653,360. Bettors added $332,550 to the pool.  That is the heaviest betting thus far in the carryover cycle that is 15 days old.

The race was six furlongs on dirt, a $10,000 claimer for miaden fillies and mares 3-YO and up.

On a day when speed is looking good on dirt, Retjinkme led at every call and won in 1:12,37 by four lengths over first-time starter The Grand Kath (8).

Raylui Gutierrez rod Rethinkme for trainer/owner Rohan Crchton.

GP Rainbow 6 Coming Up With 60 Runners

The Rainbow 6  is coming up  at fGulfstreamfinally--could be , startimg with the seventh raace that now has a scheduled post of 4:02  p.m.

The carryover, built up over 15 days is $653,360.

Bauer's Bets: Today's Results

The good news is that our choice ADMIRALS COVE (5) won as the odds-on favorite and we had the exacta also. The not so good news is that the payoffs were very short. The $10 win bet paid back $14 and the $2 exacta returned $5.40. We got $19.40 back for the $22 bet, losing $2.60. The deficit is now $322.40. Racing continues tomorrow.

As of 1:45 p.m. races five, six, eight, nine and eleven remain scheduled for turf which is listed as good.

Gulfstream moved today's  first race from turf  to  dirt,

Rainn fell late yesterday afternoon and into the  evening in Hallandale Beach, where Gulfstream is located.

Skies cleared this morning and the Weather Channel forecast is for a zero percent chance of rain in Hallandale Beach  this afternoon.

By taking two races off the turf, Gulfstream  is giving its heavily-used turf course at least a bit of a chance  to dry out.

The 12th race is a $12,500 claimer for maiden fillies and mares, 3-years-old and up.  it was scheduled for about 7 1/2 furlongs on turf, but will  b e run at seven furlongs on dirt.

Miami invader ADMIRALS COVE (5) ships in for Kathleen O'Connell in Race 5, a grassy mile and one-sixteenth for $16,000 non-winners of two lifetime. Also, leading jockey Antonio Gallardo gets aboard for the first time.  THE BET: $10 to win on ADMIRALS COVE (5) and a $2 exacta box with SOPHISTICATION (4) and INDY FOREST (1). 1,4,5 Total Bet $22.

GP Rainbow 6 Carryover Grows Past $650,000

GulfstreamPark will have a carryover of $650,360 on its Rainbow6 on Saturday.

First post will b 12:40 p.m for a 12-race card. The Rainbow  6 will beon races seven through twelve, with the sequence scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m.

On Friday there were 380 tickets with the winners  of all six Rainbow 6 races. Each was paid $250.02 on the 20-cent only bet.

The number of winning tickets was large and the payoff  was relatively low  because five of the winners were favorites and one winner went off at 6-1 odds.  The numbers of the winning horses were 5-5-4-6-2-7.

The carryover is growing because Friday  was the 15th straight day with multiple winners-and without the jackpot/carryover payoff requirement  of just one ticket with all six winners.

The carryover coming into Friday was $612,684.  Bettors added $169,530 to the Rainbow 6 pool.

Gulfstream took out  20 percent of the day's bet, divided 56 percent  of it among the 380 winning tickets  and added 24 percent to the carryover.

Bauer's Bets: Today's Results: A Happy Correction!!

Forgot to notice that our exacta box in Race 7 did cash for $53.80. The result is a profit of $31.80 on the $22 bet. The deficit is now $319.80. Racing continues tomorrow, always remember to check your tickets!

Low Odds Winners Dominate Rainbow 6

Four races  are down in the Gulfstream Rainbow 6 and the winners have been three favorites and a 6-1 shot.

The winning numbers have been 5-5-4-6.

The carryover, now through 14 days, was $612,684 coming in.  Bettors added $169,530 to the Rainbow 6 pool.
--Jim Freer

Bauer's Bets: Today's Results

Not a good outcome today. All our bets went down, lost $22. The deficit is now $372.00. Racing continues tomorrow.

Bauer's Bets: Fast & Firm At Tampa, Friday's Play Of The Day

WEATHER GIRL (3) appears to well spotted in Race 7, facing seven $16,000 claiming rivals going a mile on the lawn. This six year-old mare has 2 wins on the Tampa turf from 3 trips, vs. similar company to that which she meets here. In her last outing, she ran poorly when the race was switched to the dirt from the turf. Today, she is very dangerous going back on the green. Red-hot rider Samy Camacho takes the mount for 29% trainer Justin Johns. Alot to like here. THE BET: $10 to win on WEATHER GIRL(3) and a $2 exacta box with MUSIC BABE (4) and TEARLESS (5)  3,4,5.   Total Bet $22         GOOD LUCK

Hofburg Hits the Track at Churchill

Hofburg, runner-up in the Florida Derby (Grade I) at Gulfstream Park on March 31, made his first visit to the track at Churchill Downs on Wednesday morning as he began his preparations for the Kentucky Derby (Grade 1) that will be run on May 5.

Hofburg arrived at Churchill Downs in Louisville  on Tuesday, following a van ride from Payson Park in Indiantown, Fla.,

On Wednesday he galloped 1 ¼ miles over a “good’ track under exercise rider Penny Gardiner.

Trainer Bill Mott has planned Sunday as the day for Hofburg's final pre-Derby work.

Irad Ortiz Jr. , who rode Hofburg in the Florida Derby, has the mount in the Kentucky Derby.

Hofburg, a son of Tapit, has won one of three career starts.

In the 1 1/8 mile Florida Derby, Hofburg rallied from eighth place after a half mile and finished six lengths behind Audible.

Todd Pletcher trains Audible, who likely will be one of the favorites in the 1 1/4 mile Kentucky Derby.

Bauer's Bets: Today's Results

Our choice POLLARD STAR (5) finished second after a troubled trip. Our exacta box was second and third after a 30-1 shot. Bottom line, we lost $22. The deficit is now $350.00. Racing resumes on Friday.

Bauer's Bets: Fast & Firm At Tampa, Wednesday's Play Of The Day

POLLARD STAR (5) is today's play in Race 3. He is lightly raced and a consistent runner, (only 5 starts, 4 times in the money). He was a good second with similar company in his last race and should get it done here under David Delgado, who has ridden this one twice before, scoring a win and a place. THE BET: $10 to win on POLLARD STAR (5) and a $2 exacta box with CALL ME HANDSOME (2) and SALSA LANE (6) 2,5,6.
Total Bet: $22  GOOD LUCK

Tampa Bay Derby Winner Quip Will Not Run in Kentucky Derby

Quip, the winner of this year's Tampa Bay Derby, will not run in the Kentucky Derby on May 5.

Quip's owners made that decision on Monday, according to a news release from Churchill Downs. Information was not readily available on why the colt was withdrawn from consideration from the $2 million Kentucky Derby (Grade 1) at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky.

Quip has 90 Kentucky Derby qualifying points and had been ninth on the points list for horses whose owners are planning to enter them in that classic 1 1/4 dirt stakes for 3-year-olds.

Quip, a son of Distorted Humor, earned 50 points by winning the Tampa Bay Derby (Grade 2) at Tampa Bay Downs on March 10.  He earned 40 points with a second place finish behind Magnum Moon in the 1 1/8 mile Arkansas Derby (Grade 1) at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, Ark., on April 14.

A maximum of 20 horses can run in the Kentucky Derby. Entries will be drawn at 11:00 a,m, Eastern on Wednesday May 2.

If the draw were held this afternoon, the field would have ten horses that have raced atTampa Bay Downs and/or at Gulfstream Park.

Those horses and their qualifying point totals are:
Magnum Moon (150), Good Magic (134), Audible (110), Noble Indy (110),Vino Rosso (107), Enticed (103), Flameaway (70), Promises Fulfilled (52), Free Drop Billy (44) and Hofburg (40).

Magnum Moon, Audible, Noble Indy and Vino Rosso are all trained by Todd Pletcher.

In an article on Tuesday, we will examine the prep races that those horses won (in Florida and other states)  to make  the Kentucky Derby field.

If all ten horses listed above run in the Kentucky  Derby it would equal the number of 'Florida horses' that ran in the 2017 Kentucky Derby.

Last  year's Kentucky Derby winner was Always Dreaming. who won a non-stakes race at Tampa Bay and later won the Florida Derby (Grade 1)  at Gulfstream.

HorseRacingFLA's review of Equibase charts shows that during the 21st Century eleven is the highest number of horses that raced in Florida and went on to race in the Kentucky Derby.

There were eleven Florida horses in the Kentucky Derby in 2008 and in 2011.

The 2008 Kentucky  Derby  winner Big Brown and the 2011 Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom had both raced at Gulfstream. Big Brown won the Florida Derby and Animal Kingdom won a turf allowance  at  Gulfstream.

The Rainbow 6 jackpot consists of the entire carryover plus 80 percent of the day's Rainbow 6  bet (20 percent takeout).

Gulfstream pays out the Rainbow 6 jackpot only on days with  just one winning ticket or on pre-announced mandatory payout days when it pays it out to all tickets that have six winners.

Today's Results

Not a good outcome. Our choice in Race 4, KENTUCKY BREEZE could do no better than third. Lost $32, the deficit is now $328. Racing continues on Wednesday.

Races 3, 5, 7 & 9 are off the turf and will be run on the fast main track at a mile and forty yards.

KENTUCKY BREEZE (10) should graduate today in Race 4. This four year old drops to face the easiest field in his life. Red-hot Samy Camacho gets aboard him for the first time for trainer Juan Golera. This combo got KENTUCKY BREEZE (10) to a third place finish last April on the grass and are aiming at the winner's circle today. Gulfstream Rainbow 6 Carryover Moves Past $500,000

The Rainbow 6 carryover keeps growing at a fast pace at  Gulfstream Park, and it will be $522,242.53. on Sunday.
(Note--in the article below this one, we will point out "just how fast" the Rainbow6 pool is growing).

Gulfstream has an 11-race card  with first post  at 1:10 p.m.

The Rainbow 6 is on races six to  eleven with the sequence scheduled to  start at 3:40 p.m.

There were seven tickets with the winners of  all six Rainbow 6 races on Saturday. Each of those tickets paid $20,240.04 on the 20-cent only bet.

Saturday was the 12th straight race day with multiple winning Rainbow 6  tickets, and thus the jackpot/carryover keeps growing.

The jackpot/carryover consists of the entire carryover plus  80  percent of the day's new Rainbow 6  bet (20 percent takeout).

Gulfstream pays that out only on days when there is just one ticket with all six  winners or on pre-announced mandatory payout days when it pays out the jackpot/carryover--no matter the number of winning tickets.

On most days, such as Saturday, Gulfstream takes out 20 percent of  the day's Rainbow 6 bets, divides 56 percent of that bet among winning tickets and adds 24 percent to the carryover.

On Saturday the carryover coming in was $461,519.  Bettors added $253,099 to the pool. Under the 20-56-24 rule, the carryover grows to $522,242.53  for  Sunday.

Tampa Notes: Mike Allen Scores 2,000th Victory

Special congratulations are in order for veteran rider Mike Allen, who won race number 2,000 in today's opener. Allen rode DIVA CHICK to the winner's circle for trainer Dennis Ward with a laudable effort that got the win by only a nose. Keep it up Mike, best of luck for continued success!
Tampa fans might want to check out Race 6 at Keeneland today. RUBY LANE (1) is a very interesting entry from the stable of Tampa trainer Arnaud Delacour . This four-year old filly is undefeated on the grass and won a Grade 1 contest in Chile last summer. She has been training well all winter and gets Lasix and Julien Leperoux in the irons. She may be worth a wager as she faces a group of NW3X Allowance rivals at 8-1 on the morning line.

Bauer's Bets: Dirt Fast, Turf Good At Tampa, Races 2 & 7 Off Turf, Today's Play Of The Day

R ANGEL KATELYN (5) looks to be the best in Race 6 for the powerful Bennett barn, although she might be an odds-on favorite, especially with Samy Camacho riding for the first time. This filly is winless in Tampa this season, but has won 3 of 7 attempts here. She should makes amends today. THE BET: $10 to win on R ANGEL KATELYN (5) also a $5 exacta box with WILD CAT KATE (1) and a $1 trifecta part wheel 5 with 1,6 with all. Total Bet: $28.  GOOD LUCK

Bauer's Bets: Today's Results

Our choice HIGHLAND PARK HERO (2) in race 5 got bet down to even money. She ran well but could do no better than third and all our bets went down. Lost $32. The deficit is now $297.60. Racing resumes on Friday.

Bauer's Bet's: Tampa Dirt Good, No Turf Racing, Wednesday's Play of The Day

Races 4,6,8 & 9 have been taken off the turf and will be run on the good main track at one mile and forty yards.
Here's a runner in Race 5 who appears to have an edge over his rivals, in this $8,000 non-winner of  two races lifetime event. HIGHLAND PARK HERO (2) has faced $16,000 open company claiming foes in his last three starts, and gave a good account of himself, getting the place money twice. Trainer Mike Stidham scores at a 30% clip on horses taking similar drops in class. This sophomore won his Maiden race last summer at Delaware Park on a sloppy track, he should like the conditions today. THE BET: $20 to win on HIGHLAND PARK HERO (2) and a pair of $2 exacta part wheels, using DREAMING OF J C (5), SEBA'S RANGER (6) and VINEYARD HARBOUR (7).     2 with 5,6,7 then reverse, 5,6,7 with 2.
Total Bet: $32. GOOD LUCK

Bauer's Bets: Today's Results

We almost had it all, Our top choice ANDREW THE BULL (2) ran well but finished second, we lost the $10 win bet. But the $2 exacta box was good for $25 as TIZK TIZK (6), the chalk, won.
Anyway. we realized a slight $3 profit on the $22 bet. The deficit is now $267.60. Racing resumes on Wednesday.

Bauer's Bets: Dirt Fast, Turf Good At Tampa, Sunday's Play Of The Day

Today's play comes in Race 8, a wide-open 5 furlong sprint on the lawn for $16,000 Non winner's of two lifetime. ANDREW THE BULL (2) is in top form now, breaking his maiden on the dirt by seven lengths. He showed that he can handle 5 grassy furlongs when he ran second here last June 30th, after a troubled trip. Veteran jock Scott Spieth returns and this one is worth a bet at 8-1 on the morning line. THE BET: $10 to win on ANDREW THE BULL and a $2 exacta box with TIZK TIZK (6) and SALTY KIND OF DOG (7)     2,6,7. Total Bet: $22.  GOOD LUCK

Bauer's Bets: Today's Results, Success At Last !

Finally made some progress. The $10 win bet on JACKISM (2) returned $56. and the $2 exacta box paid $114.60 for a total of $170.60. Minus the $20 bet, there is a profit of $150.60. The deficit is now $270.60. Racing resumes tomorrow.

Bauer's Bets: Fast & Firm At Tampa, Saturday's Play Of The Day

JACKISM (2) is in a good spot for trainer Dennis Ward in Race 5. This sophomore gelding had run ok in three tries with $16,000 open company rivals, but really wasn't a threat with that kind. Today, his tag is cut 1/2 to $8,000 and he faces non-winners of two races lifetime for the first time. He should be a square price at 9-2 on the morning line THE BET: $10 to win on    JACKISM (2) and a $2 exacta box with POLLARD STAR (4) and SALSA LANE (8) 2,4,8. Total Bet $22   GOOD LUCK

Bauer's Bets: Today's Results

Things started out just fine, our choice SARATOGA BELLE (2) took the lead with the other half of our $5 exacta box ELECTRIC (7) and it appeared they would be 1-2 around the course. But no, SARATOGA BELLE tired in the stretch and finished fourth, Electric went on to win and we lost $26.00. The deficit is now $421.20.
Racing continues tomorrow.

Bauer's Bets: Fast & Firm At Tampa, Friday's Play Of The Day

SARATOGA BELLE (2) appears to be in a good spot to graduate in Race 4. This four-year old filly from the powerful Delacour outfit showed that she likes 5 furlongs on the Tampa turf. Back on February 15, she ran a good third, missing by less than a length under Dan Centeno. She has been freshened since then and has logged five works in the meantime. She gets blinkers on and Centeno retains the mount. THE BET: $10 to win on SARATOGA BELLE (2) and a $5 exacta box with ELECTRIC (7). Also, a $2 exacta part-wheel 2 with 3,6,7. Total Bet $26. GOOD LUCK

Audible Wins Florida Derby, Earns Kentucky Derby Spot

Audible took the lead coming out of the final turn and went on to beat Hofburg by three lengths on Saturday in the $1 million Florida Derby (Grade 1) at Gulfstream Park.

The win earned Audible 100 Kentucky Derby qualifying points and assures him a spot in that 1 ¼ mile stakes that will be run May 5 at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky.

Mississippi finished third on Saturday, 7  ¾ lengths behind Hofburg. It was another 11/4 lengths  back to Catholic Boy, who finished fourth in the nine-horse field.

Audible, the 8-5  favorite, won the 1 1/8 mile dirt stakes in 1:49.48 on the track listed as fast. John Velazquez rode Audible for trainer Todd Pletcher.

The win was the fourth in five career starts for Audible, a New York-bred son of Into Mischief.

In his race prior to the Florida Derby, he won the Holy Bull Stakes (Grade 2) at 1 1/16 miles at Gulfstream on
Feb. 3.

Audible is owned by a partnership of China Horse Club, Head of Plains Partners, Starlight Racing and WinStar  Farm.

The Florida Derby was a final round “Road to the Kentucky Derby” qualifying race. Points were awarded on a 100-40-20-10 basis to the first through fourth place finishers.  The Holy Bull was a first-round race, and Audible earned ten points.

With five races left for Kentucky Derby qualifying, it does not appear possible for enough horses to surpass 110 points and knock Audible out of one of the 20 spots in the Kentucky Derby (18 spots this year are reserved for horses that have run in prep races in the United States).

Hofburg has 40 qualifying points and could be
“on the bubble” for making the Kentucky Derby field.

Catholic Boy has 24 points and Mississippi has 20. Both likely will have to run in another qualifying race and finish third or better to make the Kentucky Derby field.
