BAUER'S BETS: Fast & Firm at Tampa

Today's play is in Race 8, Post 4:20 PM. NW1X Allowance Fillies & Mares race eight and one-half furlongs on the lawn.

HANIEL (9) at 6/1 is worth a bet at the price. This mare appears to have an early pace advantage and has had a pair of breezing works from the gate lately. Jose Ferrer (one of the best speed jocks on turf) gets aboard and this one could be an upsetter here.

THE BET $10 to win on HANIEL (9) and a $2 exacta box with MAKEME DREAM (2) and STRELLA'S WAR (3).    2,3,9.
Total Bet $22   GOOD LUCK!!

PREVIOUS RESULTS Lost $22 yesterday, the bankroll is minus $24.

GP West Has $1.1 Million Rainbow 6 Carryover on Mandatory Payout Day

The Gulfstream  Park West meet will have its heavily anticipated closing day on Sunday.with a mandatory payout of its Rainbow 6 carryover of $1,094,464.

First  post is  12:30 p.m. for a nine race card at Calder in Miami Gardens.

The Rainbow 6, a 20-cents- per combination only bet, will be  on races four through nine with the sequence  scheduled to start at 2:17 p.m.

There  will be mandatory  payouts (i. e. no carryovers) on the Late Pick   an Late  Pick 5 and on the  Super  Hi-5  in the ninth and final  race.

On the Rainbow 6,  meet  sponsor  Gulfstream Park will  divide the full  carryover plus 80  percent of new Rainbow 6 bets among tickets that have the  winners  of all six Rainbow  6 races.

Thus,  HorseRacingFLA expects that more than $5  million will  be bet on the Rainbow 6.

We will have  ongoing coverage, including a suggested Rainbow  6  ticket, on tbis  blog.

Two Singles Alive in Rainbow 6

If either Reggae Pirate (3) or Irish Mail (8) wins the ninth and final race at Gulfstream :Park West, there will be a single ticket winner in the Rainbow 6, for about $1.25 million

Low-Odds Horses Win First Two Legs of Rainbow 6

Shivaree (6), at  3-1, won Saturday's fourth race to start  the Rainbow 6.

Beach Dreaming (5), also at 3-1, won the fifth race.

With two low-dds winners starting the sequence, it increases the chance that there will  be multiple  tickets with all six Rainbow  6 winners and a  continuatu=ion of the carryover.

The Rainbow 6 carryover  coming in was $1,028,040.  Bettors  added $276,816  to Re pool--warming up for Sunday's  mandatory payout day that could have more than $5 million in Rainbow 6 betting.

Today is the 39th  and next-to-last day of the GP West meet held at  Calder in Miami Gardens and ruu by Gulfstream ParThe carryover has grown because none of the 38 days have had the "jackpot takedown" rule of just one ticket with all six Rainb 6  winners.

The jackpot consists of the entire coming in carryover plus 80 percent of the day's  Rainbow 6  bet.

A single ticket winner today  would take down a jackpot of about $1.25 million,

If  the carryover continues, it would be about  $1.1 million on Sunday/  And with the entire carryover being paid out, it is likely that  $5 million or more will be bet on the Rainbow 6.

GP West: Mandatory Rainbow 6 Payoff on Sunday, Nov. 24th.

The Gulfstream Park West meet will  have a mandatory payout of its Rainbow 6 jackpot/carryover this coming Sunday Nov. 24.

That will be closing day of the 40-day meet at Calder in Miami Gardens.

And there are expectations that  the carryover will be in the $1  million range and that $5 million or more will be bet on the Rainbow 6--if the carryover keeps growing until Sunday.

GP West will  resume racing on Wednesday,  and the Rainbow 6 carryover will be $909,176.

First post will be 1:20 p.m. for an eight-race card. The Rainbow 6, a 20-cents per combination only bet, will be  on races three to  eight with the sequence scheduled to start at 2:20 p.m.

The carryover  has grown because there has not been a day with just one Rainbow 6 winning ticket  since the start of the GP West meet.

The jackpot consists of the entire  coming in carryover plus 80 percent of the day's  new Rainbow 6 bet (20 percent takeout).

On non-mandatory days with multiple winning tickets meet sponsor Gulfstream Parktakes out 20 percent of the day'snew Rainbow 6 bet. It then divide s 56 percent of the  new bet amog tickets  with six winners and adds24 percent to the carryover

On a mandatory day, Gulfstream will pay out the entire Rainbow 6 jackpot, regardless of the number of winning  tickets - dividing it  among those tickets

The  40-day Gulfstream Park West meet will end on Sunday Nov. 24. The Gulfstream Park 2019-2020 championship meet will open on Friday Nov. 29 at Gulfstream's home track in Hallandale Beach.

A Florida law prohibits a pari-mutuel from extending a carryover into another race meet.

Thus, Gulfstream will need to have a mandatory payoff  on the Rainbow 6 jackpot prior to the close of the GP West meet.

A key question is whether there will be a daywith just a single winning ticket prior  to Snnday.  If so, the carryover for Sunday will be much lower than $1 million.

But  we expect that at least $500,000 would be bet on the Rainbow 6 on closing day--when 80 percent of the day's wager will go back  to bettors rather than the standard  56  percent.

GP West Rainbow 6 Carryover for Wednesday Will Be $909,176 as End of Meet Approaches

HorseRacingFLA Staff Report

When the Gulfstream Park  West  meet resumes on Wednesday, it will have a carryover of $909,176
on the Rainbow 6.

First post will be 1:20 p.m. for an eight-race card at Calder in Miami Gardens.  Gulfstream Park conducts the GP West meet under a lease with Calder and its parent company Churchill Downs Inc.

The Rainbow 6 will be on races three to eight with the sequence scheduled to start at 2:20 p.m.
During the week ahead, we will have daily coverage on the Rainbow 6 and other Gulfstream Park West racing.

The Wednesday racing will follow Sunday's card when bettors poured $196,968 into the Rainbow 6.  That was the most yet in the meet that is now 35 days old.

And the carryover is 35 days old because the meet has not had a day with the  jackpot/carryover payoff requirement of just one ticket with all six Rainbow 6  winners.

On Sunday, there were 110 tickets with all six Rainbow 6 winners. Each received $1,003.66 on the 20-cent per combination only bet.

Program numbers of the six winning horses were 9-3-1-7-8-6.

Winners included two favorites and four other horses that were 8-1 or lower.

The jackpot consists of the entire  coming in carryover plus 80 percent of the day's  new Rainbow 6 bet (20 percent takeout).

On a mandatory day, Gulfstream will pay out the entire Rainbow 6 jackpot, regardless of the number of winning  tickets - dividing it  among those tickets

Gulfstream has not announced a date for a mandatory Rainbow 6 payoff.

But it is likely that Gulfstream will have mandatory payoffs on Saturday Nov. 23, a potentially huge betting day, and on Sunday Nov. 24.

If the carryover is not taken down by  a single ticket this coming Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, it is likely that it will be about $1 million next Saturday. In that case, we anticipate that more than $5 million will be bet on the Rainbow 6.

Quenane, at 8-1, Wins Opening Leg of GPW Late Pick 5

Quenane (3), at 8-1, won Sunday's fourth race at the  Gulfstream Park West meet, to start the Late Pick 5,

We will have a recap of the GP West day at the end of the eight-race card.

Rainbow 6 Opener Won by 3-1 Shot

Shyza (9). at  3-1, won Sunday's  third race at the Gulfstream Park  West  meet to start the Rainbow 6.

The race was scheduled for 7  1/2 furlongs on turf, but was moved to the dirt and run at  seven furlongs on that surface that is listed as Fast.

The fifth and seventh races remain scheduled for the turf, which is listed as Good.

The Rainbow  6 carryover coming into today was $861,912,  Bettors  added $196,968  to the pool. That is the highest of any day during the current 34-day cycle in which there has not been a single ticket winner in the Rainbow 6.

The fourth race is coming up with scheduled post at 2:54 p.m., to start the Late Pick 5.

There are only three scratches in the sequence, leaving 43 starters. That could lead to a good payoff.

The  fourth race is a $10,000 claimer at one mile on dirt for 3-year-olds and up.

There will be a field of eight following the scratch of Eights and Aces (2).  Here's hoping that you can avoid having the multi-race  bets become a Deadman's Hand.

GP West on the Turf for Sunday

The dirt track is listed as  Fast and the turf course is listed as Good for Sunday at the Gulfstream Park West  meet, held at Calder in Miami Gardens.

That is good news for fans and horsemen following a string of rainy days in South Florida.

In each of the last four race days, meet sponsor Gulfstream Park has taken at least one race  off the turf due to rain or other wet conditions.

First post is  at 1:20 p.m., with no stakes races but with a Rainbow 6 carryover of $861,912.

Skies are clear and the Weather Channel forecast is for a zero  percent chance of rain during racing hours.

The first, third, fifth and seventh races are scheduled for turf.

The Rainbow 6, a 20-cents per combination only bet, will be on races three to eight with the sequence scheduled to start at 2:20 p.m.

GP West Sunday: 8 Races, $861,912 Carryover

The Gulfstream Park West meet has an eight-race card scheduled for Sunday.

First post is 1:20 p.m. for the racing at Calder in Miami Gardens

The Rainbow 6 carryover, now 34 days old,  has grown to $861,912.

The Rainbow 6, a 20-cent per combination only bet, will be on races three to  eight with the sequence set to start at 2:22 p.m.

We will have additional reports on GP West, including weather conditions, prior to the start of today's racing.

Rainbow 6 Opening Leg Won by 7-1 Shot

Babie Monster (5), at 7-1, won Wednesday's third race at the Gulfstream Park West meet to start the Rainbow 6.

The carryover coming in was $727,236. Bettors added $173,135 to the Rainbow 6 pool.

The  race was a $10,000 claimer for 3-year-olds and up, at seven furlongs on the  dirt listed as Fast.

Babie Monster won in 1:25.41 with Paco Lopez  riding for trainer Joe Orseno.

GP West Fast and Firm for WednesdayFirst

First post of 1:20  p.m. has arrived for Wednesday's eight-raee card at the Gulfstream Park West meet, held at Calder.

Conditions are listed as Fast and Firm. The chance of rain is expected to rise from  15 percent to  35 percent during racing hours according to the Weather Channel.

As we have reported, the Rainbow 6  carryover has grown to  $727,236,

The Rainbow  6, a 20 cents per combination only  bet, will be on races three to eight with the sequence scheduled to start at 2:20 p,m.

We will have updates on this blog

GP West Rainbow 6 Carryover Passes $700,000

The Gulfstream Park West  meet's Rainbow 6 carryover is thirty days old and has grown to  $727,236. following a  Sunday of chalky winners.

The carryover will be up for grabs on Wednesday when the GP West meet resumes at Calder in Miami Gardens.

There will be eight races with first post of 1:20 p.m.

The Rainbow 6  will be on races  three to eight with the sequence  scheduled to start  at 2:20 p.m.  We plan to preview those races on Wednesday morning.

Note: Numbers in this  story are from HorseRacingFLA's review of Equibase charts on GP West races.

Sunday Results On Sunday there were 491 tickets with all six winners. Each  received $167.52 on the 20 cents per combination only bet.

Program numbers of the winning horses were 2-6-7-7-5-8.

Five of the Rainbow 6 races were won by favorites and the other was won by a 7-2 shot.

That helps explain why there was the lowest Rainbow 6 payoff and the largest number  of winning tickets during the current cycle that began on Oct. 2.  That was opening day of the GP  West meet.

The Growing Carryover The carryover keeps growing because the meet has not  had any days with the jackpot payoff requirement of just  one ticket with all six winning horses.

The jackpot consists of the entire coming in carryover plus 80 percent of the day's new Rainbow 6 bet.

On days with multiple winning tickets, such as Sunday, meet sponsor Gulfstream Park takes out 20 percent of the day's Rainbow 6 bet.  It then divides 56 percent among winning tickets and adds 24 percent to the carryover.

On Sunday, the carryover coming in was $691,990.

The 40-day GP West meet will end Sunday Nov. 24 and the Gulfstream championship meet will open Friday Nov. 29.

A Florida law prohibits a pari-mutuel from extending  a carryover into another meet.

So on the last day of the  GP West meet there will need to be a mandatory payoff of the carryover--no matter the number of winning tickets.

It is likely that there also would be a  mandatory payoff on Saturday Nov.23--the heaviest betting day of the week.

If the carryover continues to GP West closing weekend, we expect it would be between $1 million and $1.2 million. In that  case betting on the Rainbow 6 would probably be $5 million or more--with  a large number of bettors who usually do not play the Rainbow 6 jumping in to chase money that others have lost.

Comparisons
The Gulfstream summer meet, which  ended Sept. 29, had a Rainbow 6 carryover that lasted 47 racing days.

It was hit by a single ticket on Friday Sept. 27, a non-mandatory payoff day, and paid $2,213,978 on a 20-cent bet.

The summer meet carryover after 30 days was $975,000 --34 percent higher than the current  carryover after 40 days.

In recent years, daily average total handle at the summer meet has been about $5 million, compared with about $4 million at the GP West meet.

The summer meet usually has nine races per day, with  four-day race weeks. GP West usually has eight races per day and five day weeks.

Because the summer meet is run at Gulfstream, it is more popular than GP West with simulcast  and ADW bettors.

Bettors at GP West have to  deal with makeshift conditions, since Calder tore down its grandstand in stages between  2015  and 2017.

GP West Rainbow 6 Starts With Win By 4--5 Shot

Fortunate Friends (2), the 4-5 favorite, won Sunday's  fourth race at the Gulfstream Park West meet to start the Rainbow 6,

The carryover coming in was $691,990. Bettors added $146,888 to the pool.

Conditions are fast and firm.
.
The fourth race had just six starters, and there are just 43 starters in the sequence.

And with syndicates and computerized programs going deep in some races, it might require three double digit-odds winners to have just one jackpot-taking down ticket with all six winners.

We will keep you posted on this 29th day of the carryover.

GP West: Results of Saturday Stakes Races; Lopez, Camacho Each Ride Three Winners

The Gulfstream Park West meet on Saturday held its annual Millions Preview program, with nine stakes races among its eleven races.

All of the stakes had purses of $75,000 and were restricted to Florida breds.  The GP West meet is conducted by Gulfstream Park and is run at Calder in Miami Gardens.

This story has a list of the stakes winners, below.  Later this weekend, we will have stories with additional details on the stakes races.

In other GP West news from Saturday:
*Paco Lopez and Samy Camacho each rode three stakes winners.

The winning jockeys, trainers and odds are listed below.

Lopez added a fourth win, in the fifth race which was a claimer for fillies and mares 3-YO and up.

The four victories moved Lopez into second place in the GP West jockey standings.

He has 23 wins through Saturday, the 29th day of the 40-day meet that will end Nov. 24.

Cristian Torres, a five-pound apprentice, leads with 24.  Defending GP West champion Edgard Zayas and Leonel Reyes are tied for third at 22 wins. Emisael Jaramillo is next with 20.

The GP West meet started Oct. 2.  Lopez was not there until mid-October.  Instead, he was at Monmouth Park in Oceanport, N.J., where he led jockeys in wins.  He has won multiple riding titles at Gulfstream and Calder.

At the current GPW meet, Lopez has his 23 wins in 79 mounts.  His 29 percent winning percentage is the best among the meet's jockeys who have ten or more wins.

On Sunday, Gulfstream has a nine-race card with first post at 12:50 p.m.

Lopez has seven mounts for the day. Torres, Zayas and Jaramillo are each listed on six mounts.

Reyes suffered a broken arm and broken chin in a spill during the seventh race at GP West  on Nov. 1.  It is expected that he will not be able to ride until late December.

Reyes was unseated when the 3-year-old filly Blue Eyed Beth hit the rail.  She was uninjured.

Camacho has eight wins in 55 starts at the GP West meet.  His achievements include leading  jockeys in wins at the 2018-2019 Tampa Bay Downs meet.

*On Saturday, GP West had six turf races and five dirt races.

Only one race was won by a horse leading at every call.

That was Travy Boy, at 21-1, in the Millions Sprint Preview (6th race) at six furlongs on dirt with Lopez riding.

Through most of the meet, the dirt surface has been favorable to front runners and horses from mid-pack and closers have won most turf races.

Stakes Results:
Here are results of Saturday's stakes at GP West--with trainers, jockeys and odds.

An asterisk indicates that the race was a prep for a stakes race with similar conditions and distance that will be on the Sunshine Millions card at Gulfstream on Jan. 18.

*Millions Turf Preview (1 1/16 miles, 3-YO and up):  Galleon Mast--David Fawkes, Paco Lopez, 9-5

.Millions Distaff (7  furlongs. F&M, 3-YO and up):  Wildwood's Beauty--Scott Baker, Samy Camacho, even money

Juvenile Turf (1 mile, 2-YO): Captain D--Saffie Joseph Jr., Edgard Zayas, 1-2

*Millions Classic Preview (1 1/16 miles, 3-YO and up): Red Crescent, John Vinson, Samy Camacho, even money

*Millions Sprint Preview (6 furlongs, 3-YO and up): Travy Boy, Michael Arieta, Paco Lopez, 21-1

Juvenile Fillies Turf (1 mile, 2-YO fillies): American Giant, Michael Trombetta, Samy Camacho, 5-1

Juvenile Sprint (6 1/2 furlongs, 2-YO): As Seen on Tv, Kelly Breen, Paco  Lopez, 6-5

GP West Rainbow 6 Carryover Stays Alive, and Will Be $691,990 on Sunday's Card

By Jim Freer and Barry Unterbrink

Kantharos' Image (1) passed Harry's Ontheloose (2) in deep stretch and went on to win by three-quarters of a length in the 11th and final race at the Gulfstream Park West meet on Saturday.

The result kept the Rainbow 6 carryover alive for a 29th  day (the entire GP West meet thus far).

The carryover will be $691,990 on Sunday.

The GP West meet, run at Calder in Miami
Gardens, will have nine races with first post at 12:50 p.m

The Rainbow 6 will be on races four to nine, with the sequence set to start at 2:22 p.m.

If Harry's Ontheloose had won yesterday's 11th race, there would have been just one ticket with all six  winning horses in the the Rainbow 6.  That ticket would have taken down a jackpot of  approximately $800,000.

Instead, the win by Kantharos' Image left two tickets with six winners.  Both received $65,741.60 on the 20 cents per combination only bet..

Program numbers of the winning horses were 5-3-6-5-5-1.

Other Rainbow 6 and wagering notes:
*Bettors added $206,650 to the Rainbow 6--the most on any day in the current cycle. Twenty-four percent of that was added to the carryover.

*Going into the last race there were 16 live tickets on the Rainbow 6.

* Four tickets had a horse singled in the $16,000 optional claiming raee at five furlongs on turf turf for 3-year-old and up.  In addition to Harry's Ontheloose, the singled horses had program numbers 3, 8  and 10.

Meet sponsor Gulfstream Park pays out the Rainbow 6 jackpot (full carryover plus 80 percent of the day's new Rainbow 6 bet)  only on days when there is just one ticket with all six winners.

So, once again there was excitement in watching a last race at GP West, even if you were not alive in the Rainbow 6.

*Saturday  was Millions Preview day, with nine stakes races.

Two of those races had longshot winners, and both were part of the Rainbow 6.

Travy Boy (5) , at 21-1, shot out to the lead and went on to win the sixth race--the Millions Sprint Preview.

Picara (5)  at 28-1 won the ninth race--the Filly and mare Turf Preview.

*Betting on the Late Pick 5 was $124,888.

Tickets with  five winners made $8,884.90 on a minimum 50 cent bet. Tickets with four winners made $54.35.  The number of winning tickets was not readily available.

The  Late Pick 5 included Picara's win, but not Travy  Boy's win/

*Amid intermittent rain, conditions were listed as Fast and Firm throughout the day.

Total handle was  $5,530,719.

*GP West held its 2018 Millions Preview Day on Saturday Nov. 10.--with eleven races including the same nine stakes as this year.

Total handle was $6,321,759 on a clear day with Fast and Firm conditions.

The Rainbow 6 was hit by  a single winning ticket on the previous day.

Thus, there was a new Rainbow 6 pool with betting of  $60,517.  Of that, $14,518  was placed into a new carryover.

There were 43 tickets with all six winners and each received $726.92.

Rainbow 6: One Race Left, 4 Tickets with a Horse Singled

The 11th and final race is coming up at the GP West meet, and four live tickets have a horse singled.

Those tickets are among 16 live  tickets.
The singled hoses are numbers 2, 3, 8 and 10.

The race has a nine-horse field, following the scratches of 5 and 11.

If there is just one winning ticket it woulld take down a jackpot of about $800,000--nuilt up during a 28-day carryover.

Wininng program numbers thus far in the Rainbow 6 have  been 5-2-6-5-5.

Thr 11th race is a $16,000 allowance optional cliaimer at  5 furlongs  onturf for 3-YO and up.

Rainbow 6: Two Longshot Wins in First Four Races

Two longshots were among the winners in the first  four legs of the stakes-laden Rainbow 6 at the Gulfstream P:ark West meet on Saturday.

Travy Boy (5) , at 21-1, shot out to the lead and went on to win the sixth race--the Millions Sprint Preview.

Picara (5)  at 28-1 won the ninth race--the Filly and mare Turf Preview.

Other Rainbow 6 results:

7th race -- Juvenile Fillies Turf -- American Giant (2)  at 5-1
8th race --  Fillies Juvenile Sprint  -- Ceci Valentina (6)  5-2

The  victories by Travy Boyu and Picara increased the prospect that today might produce a single winning ticket in the Rainbow 6--after 28  days with multiple winners has led to a growing carryover.

It was $642,402 coming into today's card.  Bettors added $206,320  to rhe pool.  That is the most of any day in the current Rainbow 6 cycle

GP West: No Super Hi-5 Until Fifth Race

The Super Hi-5 will not be  offered until the fifth race today at the Gulfstream Park West meet.

Meet sponsor  Gulfstream Park requires  at least seven starters to have the Super Hi-5, a  $1 minimum bet that requires picking the first five finishers in correct order--with no consolation payoffs such as four of five.

Each of today's first four races have  six or fewer entrants, due to late scratches or original fields smaller than seven horses.

The fifth race is a $10,000 claimer for 3-year-olds and up, at one mile on turf.

The field has nine horses--program numbers one through ten, except for the scrached Labhay who  had program number 6.

GP West on Saturday: Nine Stakes Races; Rainbow 6 Carryover of $642,402

The Gulfstream Park West meet will have nine stakes races on Saturday, along with a carryover of $642,402 on the Rainbow 6.

First  post  will be 12:00 p.m. for an 11-race card, at Calder in Miami Gardens.

The stakes will be race numbers one through four, and then six through ten.  All are restricted to Florida breds and have $75,000 purses.

Conditions are listed as Fast and Firm. The Weather Channel forecast is for a  30 percent chance of rain during racing hours.

We  will have previews and other coverage starting  late this morning on this blog.

This link http://www.equibase.com/static/entry/RaceCardIndexGPW110919USA-EQB.html to the Equibase Web site has the GP West entries for this Saturday.  It provides access to past  performances and other handicapping products.

Meet sponsor Gulfstream Park is calling the card the Millions Preview.  Four of the races have distances and  conditions that  are similar to stakes races with larger purses that will be run on  the Sunshine Millions program at Gulfstream on Jan.  18.

The first race has a carryover of $2,417 in the Super Hi-5.

It is the Millions Turf Preview, at 1 1/16 miles for 3-year-olds and up.

The likely  favorite is Galleon Mast, who won this race last year.  Paco Lopez will ride for trainer David Fawkes.

The Rainbow 6 will be on races six to eleven, with the sequence scheduled to start at 2:26 p.m.

The carryover is now 28 days old--following Friday that was still another day without the jackpot takedown requirement of just one ticket with all six winning horses.

On Friday there were  three tickets with all six winners.. Each paid $30,082 on the 20-cent per combination only bet.

Program numbers of the winning horses were  3-4-1-5-1-12.

The small number of winning tickets is attributable largely to victories by Bunyan's Axe, at  12-1. in the fifth race and Alafia, at 19-1, in the eighth race.

Bettors put $161,182 into the Rainbow 6.  Following the 20 percent takeout, Gulfstream  distributed 56 percent of the day's  bet among the three winning tickets and added 24 percent to  the carryover.

Friday's Rainbow 6 betting was the second highest in the 28-day old GP West meet.

With the attraction of stakes races, we expect that  Rainbow 6 betting will be between $250,000 and $300,000 on Saturday.

It is a $20,000 maiden claimer at one mile  on turf for 2-year old fillies,

The field is down to  eleven, following the scratches of Wonder Blondy (6)  and  Drill's Girl (8).

The  carryover coming in was $533,241. Wednesday's  betting on the Rainbow 6 was $176,754--a large  amount for a weekday.

If several longshots come in and a single ticket has them.  that ticket would take down a jackpot of approximately $670,000.

GPW Rainbow 6 Carryover Grows to $533,241

By Jim Freer and Barry  Unterbrink

The  Gulfstream :Park  West meet is 25 days old and the Rainbow 6 carryover has grown on each of those days---reaching $533,241 when racing resumes on Wednesday.

First  post  will be 1:00 p.m. for an eight-race card at Calder in Miami Gardens.

The Rainbow  6  will be on races  three to eight with the sequence scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m.

On Sunday, there were just three tickets with all six Rainbow 6 winners. Each  was paid $29,224.68  on the 20-cent per combination only bet.

Program numbers  of the winning horses  were 9-9-3-1-7-11.

The number of winning tickets was low primarily because  Takestwotowiggle  (11) at 29-1 won the eighth and final race.

Going into the eighth race there were tickets with 81 1ive combinations.

Only one had a single--on Sharon's Law (3).  If that horse won, the ticket  holder would have taken down a jackpot payoff of  approximately  $630,000.

That would have combined the entire coming-in carryover of $498,621 plus 80 percent of the day's Rainbow  6 bet of $144.042.

Sharon's Law  finished sixth in the field of eleven horses.

Odds on the other five winning horses were  7-1. 2-1. 9-2. 5-2 and 7-2.

On days with multiple tickets that have all six winners,.Gulfstream  takes out 20 percent of the day's Rainbow 6  bet. It then divides 56 percent of the day's Rainbow 6  bets among tickets with six wiinner  and adds 24 percent to the carryover.

The high odds on the eighth race winner led to these high payoffs:

*Late  Pick  5 =-$46,032  wagered;  tickets with  five of five wieners received    $14,672.10 on the minimum 50 cent bet.

The number of winning tickets was not available.  But it probably was two or three.  Tickets with four of five winners received $80.55 on the minimum  50 cent=bet.

*Late Pick 4 -- $50,732  wagered; tickets with all four winners paid $8,052.28 on the minimum 50 cent bet.

On days, such as Sunday, with multiple tickets that have all six winners,.Gulfstream  takes out 20 percent of the day's Rainbow 6  bet. It then divides 56 percent of the day's Rainbow 6  bets and adds 24 percent to the carryover.

What's Ahead?
The  GP West carryover is growing almost as fast as a carryover at the recent Gulfstream Park  summer meet, when it
took  20 days to reach  $500,000.

It lasted  47 days until it was hit by a  single ticket for  $2,211,784 .on Sept. 27

The 40-day GP West meet ends on Sunday Nov. 24.  Gulfsteam Park will not be allowed, under a state law, to continue a carryover into the  championship meet that will open on Nov. 29.

Thus the GP West meet on its final weekend will need to have a mandatory payout of   any Rainbow 6 carryover--no matter the number of tickets with six winners.

It is likely that Gulfstream will schedule that payout for Saturday Nov 23, and have a single-day pool the following day.

If the carryover continues into the closing weekend, it probably will be in the $1 million range and betting on the Rainbow 6 likely would be $5 million or more on mandatory payout  day.

The Rainbow 6  carryover has reached a size where some betting syndicates are no doubt going deep in some races.

That reduces the chances of there being just one ticket with all six winners.  But the large pools increase the prospect of large payoffs, like on Sunday, when there are only several tickets with all six winning horses.

GP West Rainbow 6 Opener Won by 7-1 Shot

Summer Clothes (9), at 7-1, rallied down the stretch and beat Elusive  Molly (2) by  a half-length in Sunday's third  race at the Gulfstream Park  West meet.

The race was the opening leg of the Rainbow  6.

The  carryover coming in was $498,672.  Bettors  added $144,042 to the Rainbow 6  pool.

The race was a $48,000 maiden special  weight at one mile on turf for 2-YO fillies.

Summer  Clothes won in 1:39.90 overthe course listed as Firm, with Samy Camacho riding for  trainer Rodolphe Brisset.

Gulfstream Park West (GPW) plans an 10-race card Saturday, first post of 12:30 PM. Last post time is near 5:45 PM.

In Friday's racing action, 9 races were run, with 4 favorites entered the winners circle.  The high odds winner was just 9:1 in the last race, so the payouts were normal for day 21 of the race meet. Handle was a respectable $5.03 million.

The first stakes races this meet will be the Cellars Shiraz in race 7, and the Showing Up Stakes in race 9; both carry $75,000 purses. The Cellars Shiraz (3 y/o fillies) lists 8 entries, with Red Rounder at a 5:2 ML favorite, and the Showing up (3 y/o) lists 11 entries with Scraps the favorite at 9:5.

Santa Anita's Breeders' Cup Notables

There will be  five Breeders' Cup races at Santa Anita Park on Friday--all for 2-year-olds and with 63 entrants including Also Eligibles.

But only two of those horses have raced in Florida.

They are Two Sixty in the $2 million Juvenile Fillies (Grade 1), race 7 at 5:32 pm and Graceful Kitten in the $1 million Juvenile Turf (Grade 1). It goes to post at 4:52 pm in race 6.

They are coming into the Breeders' Cup, in Arcadia, Calif., off gate-to-wire victories in stakes races on Sept. 28 at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Fla.

Both will be racing away from Gulfstream's spring-summer meets for the first time, and both will be making their graded stakes debuts.

Thus, in the wagering, they will be dealing with pre-conceived bias from some handicappers.

However, Two Sixty's stakes-record win in the $400,000 My Dear Girl Stakes was so fast  that she has been  attracting some buzz and could go off in the 10-1 range in a nine-horse field.

Graceful Kitten is unbeaten in three starts, including the Armed Forces Stakes on Sept. 28. But he probably will be among the longest shots in the Juvenile Turf's full 14-horse field.

It is not unusual for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile races to have just several  horses that have raced in Flonrida.

A main reason is that many top national trainers, such as Todd Pletcher and Bill Mott, race their top 2-year-olds at tracks in New York and in Kentucky duiring the summer and fall.  In December they bring many of those horses to Florida to race duirng the winter at Gulfstream or at Tampa Bay Downs in Oldsmar.

Finishes in the money, let alone wins,  have been rare for Florida horses in Breeders'  Cup Juvenile races.

A notable exception was in 2010 when Awesome Feather won the Juvenile Fillies at Churcjoll Downs.

Prior to the Breeders' Cup, Awesom,e Feather swept the theee-race fillies division of the Florida Sire Stakes, then run at  Calder in Miami GHardens. Those races are restricted to Florida-breds who are sons or daughters of Florida-registered stallions whose owners have nominated them for the progrsam.

Awesome Feather was owned by Fred and Jane Brei's Jacks or Better Farm in Ocala. She was trained by Stan Gold and ridden by Jeffrey Sanchez.

The five Breeders' Cup races are part of a ten-race card at Santa Anita. Gulfstream and Tampa Bay Downs will have simulcast wagerig on the full card. The five Brereders' Cup races will betelevised live on the NBC Sports cable channel.

Two Sixty's name stems from his purchasse price of $260,000.

Gary Barbrer paid that amount for him at the March, 2019 sale at the Ocala Breeders.
