Two Horses Singled in GP Rainbow 6

The 12th and final race is coming up at Gulfstream, and there are 32 live tickets in the Rainbow 6

Two tickets have a horse singled. Those horse ae Best Cause (10) and Keitary (11).

If either wins, the ticket would pay about $800,000 on a 20  cent bet. That would be a combination of the entire carryover of $457,196 and 80 percent of the day's Rainbow 6 bets of $437,646.

Through races seven to eleven,  the program numbers of the five winning horses were 6-10-5-6-3.

The 12th race also has a Super Hi-5 carryover of $5,424.34.

The 12th race is a $50,000 maiden claiming race for 3-YO fillies at 1 1/16 miles on turf.  It has a full field of twelve entrants.

This is a trainer play, worth a bet at 6/1 on the Morning line. QUICK STEP ED (7) has been away from the races for about four months, but has been working nicely for conditioner John Vinson, logging nine works at Palm Meadows. On Valentines day, he got a bullet work of 47 and 3/5 for the four furlongs. The Vinson outfit dosen't ship into Tampa very often, but they have been successful many times over the years. The barn has a 50% record in Tampa this season, 1 win in two tries.

Predicted finish

1 -- Drain the Clock (1)

2 -- Greatest Honour (8)

Two races back, she earned a lifetime best grass fig beating $16,000 NW2L foes. In her last outing, she matched that figure trying $25,000 NW3L company, Today, she is back with $16,000 rivals and might have the edge here.

Gulfstream: Wednesday & Fountain Preview

After being dark on Monday and Tuesday, Gulfstream Park will resume racing on Wednesday with ten races and first post at 1:10 p.m.

The Rainbow 6 has a carryover of $62,672. The 20  cents per combination-only bet is on races five to ten with  the sequence scheduled to start at 3:16 p.m.

Later on Wednesday afternoon, Gulfstream will take entries and draw post positions for the $300,000 Fountain of Youth (Grade 2) and the eight other  stakes races it will have this Saturday Feb. 27.

The  Fountain of Youth is  1 1/ 16 miles on  dirt for 3-year-.olds.

It  is a second round points qualifying points race for the Kentucky Derby (Grade 1 ) on  March 1 at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky.  The first through fourth finishers will receive 50, 20, 10 and  5 points.

There are 35 nominations for the Fountain of Youth. Prospects are strong that it could have a  maximum field of twelve, considering the large purse and the need of  trainers and owners to gain points for spots in the Kentucky Derby.

Greatest Honour, Drain the Clock and Fire at Will are the likely favorites.

Greatest Honour, trained by Shug McGaughey, won the 1 1/16 mile Holy Bull (Grad 3) at Gulfstream on Jan, 30. He earned ten Kentucky Derby points in that first-round race.

The Fountain of Youth will be the first Kentucky Derby points race for Drain the Clock and for Fire  at Will, Drain the Clock, trained by Mike Mker, has won four of his five career starts.  His most recent race was the seven-furlong Sawle Stales (Grade 3) at Gulfstream on Jan. 30.

He led at every call and, even though he was eased up in deep  stretch by jockey Edgard Zayas, he won  by 6 1/4 lengths over King's Ovation.

Drain the Clock's only loss came when he did not finish in the Jean Lafite Stakes on Nov. 30 at Delta Downs in Vinton, La.

Hiliberto Figueroa. a Louisiana-based jockey riding Drain the Clock for the first and probably the only time, lost one of  his stirrup irons early in the  race and pulled the horse up.

Fire at Will has not raced since Nov. 7, when he won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf  (Grade 1 ) at Keeneland in Lexington, Ky.

GP Rainbow 6 Getting Underway with New Pool

Conditions are Fast and Firm for Sunday's 11-race card at Gulfstream Park.

The sixth race is coming up and it will be the start of a new Rainbow 6 pool. The sequence will start 3:10 p.m.

On Saturday, there was just one ticket with the winner o all six Rainbow 6 races.  It paid $712,824 on the 20  cents per combination-only bet.

Gulfstream is guaranteeing that today's Rainbow 6 payout will be at least $200.000 if there is just one ticket with all six winners.  If there is just one winning ticket and betting is less than$200,000. That probably will not be needed, considering this year's popularity of the Rainbow 6.

On Saturday Feb. 13, Gulfstream had a mandatory payout of the Rainbow 6 jackpot.

Gulfstream had a guarantee of $200,000 on the new pool the following day. Wagering on the Rainbow 6 was $348,162.

Our review of Equibase charts indicates that was Gulfstream's second highest Rainbow 6 handle on the first day of a new pool at least since August 2015, when we began tracking Gulfstream handle.

The highest was $493,421 on May 10, 2020 which also was  a Sunday.

BAUER'S BETS: FAST & GOOD at TAMPA

By Bob Bauer

Tampa Bay Downs has a nine-race c ard on Sunday .

It will have turf races for the first time since Friday Feb. 12.

Our Sunday feature is  the  fifth race.

Older Fillies and Mares will sprint six panels under $8,000 NW3L Claiming conditions. Post time is scheduled for 2:13 PM. Live coverage including the call of legendary announcer Richard Grunder will start at 2:11 on RadioStPete online,

HIFALUTIN (1) is the choice in this wide-open affair. This Filly is a confirmed front runner who has taken clear leads and tired in her last trio of outings at seven furlongs. Today, she figures to get an early lead under red-hot Ron Allen Jr., a very good gate rider. The turn back to six furlongs and the inside post will help.

THE BET   $25 win and place on HIFALUTIN (1) and a $2 exacta box with MERMAID KISSES (4) and CELESTIAL ORB (2).  1,2,4    Total Bet $62 GOOD LUCK!!

Gulfstream Rainbow 6 Jackpot Pays $7122,824; Queen Nekia Wins Royal Delta at 25-1

HRFLA Staff Report

The Rainbow 6 was hit on just one ticket at Gulfstream Park on Saturday, and it paid $712,824.06 on a 20 cent bet.

That payout of the Rainbow 6 jackpot came about when All Good (5) won the twelfth and final race.  Going into that race, there were just two live tickets in the Rainbow 6.  One was on All Good and the other was on Ninja Dust (1).

A main reason that other tickets were knocked out was that they  apparently did not have Quantum  Leap, winner of race  eight at 22-1, or Queen Nekia, winner of the eleventh  race at 29-1.

The eleventh race was the $100,000 Royal Delta (Grade 3) at 1 1/16 miles on dirt for fillies and mares  4-YO and up. On Sunday morning, we will have more details on the Royal Delta.

Program numbers of the six winning horses were 5-3-7-1-1-5.  The Rainbow 6 was on races seven to  twelve.

On Saturday, the Rainbow 6 had a coming-in carryover  of $281,967.  Bettors added $538,672  to the pool.  The winning ticket took down the entire carryover plus 80 percent of the day's new Rainbow 6 bet. It has a 20 percent takeout.

If a horse other than All Good or Ninja Dust had won the last race, Gulfstream would have divided 56 percent of the day's Rainbow 6 bet among multiple ticket holders with the most winners (in this case five) and added 24 percent to the carryover.

It is a 20 cents per combination-only bet. A ticket can have multiple horses in each race. For  example, a ticket with two horses in each race has 64 combinations and costs $12.80.

On Sunday, Gulfstream will begin a new Rainbow 6 pool. First post will be 12:40 p.m. for an 11-race card. The Rainbow 6 will be on races six to eleven with the sequence scheduled to start at 3:10 p.m.

Gulfstream is guaranteeing that Sunday's pool will be at least $200,000 if there is just one ticket with all six winners. In that case if betting is less than  $200,000 and there is just one winning ticket, Gulfstream will put in the difference.

Two Live Tickets, Both Singled, in Rainbow 6

Queen Nekia (5) at 29-1 won Saturday's $100,000 Royal Delta Stakes at Gulfstream, and that leaves just two live  tickets -- both with a horse singled in  the Rainbow 6.

Those horses are Ninja Dust (1) and All Good (5). If either wins, it will take down a Rainbow 6  jackpot of about $700,000.

If another horse wins the 12th and final race, there will be multiple Rainbow   tickets with five winners.  They would divide 86 percent of today's $508.832 Rainbow 6 bet.

setting up the prospect of big payouts in the late multi-rac e bets

Numbers of  the winning horses thus far have been 5-3-7-1-5

The carryover coming in 281.967

It is therd $100,000 Royl Dedlta Stakes (Grade 3) at 1 1/16 mles on dirt forf filies and mae  4-YO ad up.

It appears that Ms. Danvrs, wit Jose retz risubf go ainer Shug McGaughey, wsill probably be the favite at loer rga  201.

On Dec. 26, she won the Allaire DuPont Stakes (Grade 3) at 1 1/8 miles on dirt at Laurel Park.

The other Royal Delta favorite  is Mrs.  Danvers , who on Nov. 27 led at every call in winning the Comely (Grade 3)  at Aqueduct. She is trained by Shug McGaughey.

Irad Ortiz Jr. will ride Eres Tu and his younger brother Jose will ride Mrs. Danvers.

The field also has Dream Marie and Bajan Girl, the second and third place finishers in the one mile Rampart (Grade 3) at Gulfstream on Dec. 12.

Zippy Baby, who finished a troubled second in the same condition, will make his first start for trainer Kelly Breen after being claimed for $50,000. Honorable and Richiesgotgame, who of whom experienced bumping in the same race, will clash with Zippy Baby again.

A 1 1/8-mile maiden special weight race for 3-year-olds follows in Race 8, Todd Pletcher-trained Ghazaaly, a $1.05 million yearling purchase by Shadwell Stable, will stretch out after closing well to finish a well-beaten third to highly regarded Prevalence in his seven-furlong debut Jan. 23. Kenny McPeek-trained Swingman, who finished third at shorter distances in his two starts last year, is set for his 2021 debut. A full field of $20,000 non-winners-of-two claimers has been assembled for Race 9 at a mile on turf.

Shug McGaughey-trained Dreams of Tomorrow, who broke his maiden at Aqueduct in December, is set to make his 2021 debut in Race 10, a mile optional claiming allowance for older horses on turf.  Ian Wilkes-trained Tulfarris, a multiple stakes-placed son of Zoffany in Europe, is slated to make his U.S. debut in the race.

A full field of $12,500 non-winners-of three claimers will run 1 1/16 miles on turf in Race 12.

The third, seventh, ninth and tenth races will be run on turf as scheduled.

We will have coverage during the afternoon on this blog.

Tampa Bay Postpones Turf Sprints to Feb. 24; Purse Increase of 10 Percent Starts Saturday

Tampa Bay Downs on Wednesday announced a ten percent increase in race purses and a postponement of the $100,000 Turf Dash Stakes and the $100,000 Lightning City Stakes from Sunday Feb. 21 to Wednesday, Feb. 24.

Tampa Bay was dark Thursday and will resume racing on Friday with nine races and first post at 12:15 p.m.

The fifth, seventh and eighth races are scheduled for turf.

The Weather Channel forecast for the Tampa Bay area is for a 20 percent chance of rain during racing hours.

The purse increase will begin this Saturday and it will be for all races except stakes with an additional $2,500 for all allowance races, including maiden special weights, and $1,250 for all claiming and starter races.

The purse increase amounts to approximately $15,000 more per day in total purse money.

Tampa Bay Downs  said it is able to raise purses because of "ongoing gains in simulcast revenue." It did not provide any dollar amounts for the recent gains and it did not say how much of the gains have been from various components such as advance deposit wagering..

Tampa Bay Downs previously increased purses by 10 percent on Dec. 16 and again on Feb. 3.

Early this week, the Oldsmar, Fla.,  pushed both races back from back from this Saturday Feb. 20 to Sunday Feb. 21 because of recent heavy rains and the prospect of more rain later this week.

With more rain forecast later this week, the decision was made to give the turf course plenty of time to dry out and create conditions as equitable as possible for all runners.

The Turf Dash is for 4-YOs and up, and the Lightning City is for fillies and mares 4-YO and up. Both races are five furlongs on turf.

In a statement, Tampa Bay Downs said: |"With more rain forecast later this week, the decision was made to give the turf course plenty of time to dry out and create conditions as equitable as possible for all runners."

Tampa Bay has not held races on turf since last Friday Feb. 12.  On its three race days since then it has moved all of its scheduled-for-turf races to the turf.

Ortiz Jr. Rides Five Winners at Gulfstream; Castellano Returns from Leg Injury

Javier Castellano and Irad Ortiz Jr., two of the standout jockeys of this era, shared the spotlight at Gulfstream Park on Wednesday.

Hall of Fame member Castellano returned to riding  after sitting out for three months while rehabbing from surgery on his right leg.

The five-time Gulfstream Championship Meet titlist had one mount. He rode Sexy Dream to a fourth place finish in the ninth race. He is scheduled in two races on Gulfstream's ten-race Wednesday card.

Ortiz rode five winners on Wednesday. He is seeking his third straight Gulfstream championship meet riding title. That followed a four-victory day on Sunday.

He has ridden 93 winners through Wednesday, the 55th day of the 86-day  championship meet. Luis Saez is second with 70 wins.

Ortiz's five winners on Wednesday, with $ 2  win prices and trainers were:
First Race --
 Cat Lady ($4.60), Fausto Gutierrez
Second Race -- Jacohare ($13.80), Gregory Sacco
Fifth Race -- American Matters ($7.60), Allen Iwinski
Sixth Race --  Dem a Wonder ($4.60), Rohan Crichton
Eighth Race -- Subsidiary ($10.60), Jose Noda-Fernandez
Ortiz, a 28-year-old native of Puerto Rico, was voted the winner of the Eclipse Award as champion jockey for 2019 and 2020. He is the older brother of Jose Ortiz, who through Wednesday has 29 wins at the current Gulfstream meet and is tied for sixth place.

Castellano, a 43-year-old native of Puerto Rico, won a record five consecutive Championship Meet riding titles at Gulfstream from 2011-2012 through 2015-2016. During that time, he was voted the Eclipse Award as champion jockey four times, from 2013 through 2016.

“I’m every excited, very motivated,” Castellano said. “That was my first mount. We all are looking to win first time. It didn’t work out, but we’re looking at the big picture."

He added: "We’re looking to get fit, riding a lot of horses. I’m looking to work hard. Hopefully, I’ll get a lot of support from the owners and trainers.”

A winner of 5,328 races and more than $354 million in purse earnings, Castellano had arthroscopic surgery to clean up some debris in his right leg, near the hip, Nov. 16 in New York. He went through physical therapy and returned to Florida earlier this month to start getting on horses.

Castellano is named on two horses Thursday – Todd Pletcher-trained Deemed Essential in Race 7, a maiden special weight on turf for 3-year-old fillies, and Graham Motion-trained All Come True in Race 10, a mile optional claiming allowance for older fillies and mares on turf.

Royal Delta on Saturday

Eight horses were entered  on Wednesday for Saturday's $100,000 Royal Delta (Grade 3) at 1 1/16 miles on dirt  for fillies and mares 3-YO and up.

Eres Tu and Mrs. Danvers are the likely favorites.

Eres Tu,  a 5-year-old daughter of Malibu Moon, won all three of her races last year for trainer Arnaud Delacour.  She is coming off a win in the Allaire DuPont Stakes (Grade 3) at 1 1/8 miles on dirt at Laurel Park on Dec. 27.

The Royal Delta would be the first race for Mrs. Danvers since Nov. 26. On that day, the Shug McGaughey trainee won by 6 1/4 lengths in the Comely Stakes (Grade 3) at 1 1/8 miles on dirt at Aqueduct.

The Royal Delta is the only stakes scheduled for Gulfstream over the upcoming weekend.

Rainbow 6 Carryover Grows to $134,151

Each ticket with all six winning horses paid $4,130 on a 20 cent bet in the Rainbow 6 at Gulfstream Park on Wednesday.

There were 29 winning tickets, according to HorseRacingFLA's review of Equibase charts.

Program numbers of the winning horses were 5-1-1-6-3-2. All six winners were at 7-1 or lower.

On Thursday, Gulfstream will have a Rainbow 6 carryover of $134,151.  The 20 cents per combination-only bet will be on races five to ten, with the sequence scheduled to start at 3:10 p.m.

First post will be !:10 p.m. for a ten-race card.

Gulfstream is guaranteeing that Thursday's jackpot pool will be at least $400,000 if there is just one ticket  with all six winners.

The jackpot is made up of the entire coming in carryover and 80 percent of the day's new Rainbow 6 bet. If Thursday's total is less than $400,000 and there is just one winning ticket, Gulfstream will make up the difference.

Betting on the Rainbow  6 on Wednesday was $210,194. Per  its rules on days with multiple winning tickets, Gulfstream  took out 20 percent of the day's Rainbow 6 bet. It then divided 56 percent among tickets with six winners and added 24 percent  to the carryover.

On Wednesday, four of the Rainbow 6 races were moved from turf to the dirt track that was listed as Fast on a day with clear skies. The surface shift followed heavy rain on Tuesday.

On Thursday, three races in the Rainbow 6 are scheduled for turf--the seventh, ninth and tenth. The Weather Channel forecast is for a less than 10 percent chance of rain during racing hours in Hallandale Beach, Fla., where Gulfstream is located.

The Pick 6 has  a carryover of $37,420.  The 20 cents per combination-only bet will be on  races four to nine, with the sequence scheduled to start at 1:41 p.m.

Due to recent heavy rains, Tampa Bay Downs has rescheduled two turf sprint stakes from Saturday Feb. 20 to Sunday Feb. 21.

Those races are the $100,000 Turf Dash, at five furlongs on turf for 4-year-olds and up, and the $100,000 Lightning City, at five furlongs on turf for fillies and mares 4-YO and up.

Peter Berube, Tampa Bay Downs vice president-general manager, announced the postponements on Sunday.

“The turf course has taken in excess of 2 inches of rain the last two days, with more rain forecast during the week,” he  said. “By switching the races to Sunday now, horsemen planning to enter either race will have sufficient time to adjust their training schedules. Our hope is that the turf course will be in its usual excellent condition by next Sunday.”

Entries for both races will be taken Thursday.

No matter the conditions, or the fields, both races will be hard-pressed to surpass last year’s renewals, when (then)-7-year-old Florida-bred gelding Faction Cat set a course record of 53.97 seconds in winning the Turf Dash and (then)-5-year-old Jean Elizabeth set a stakes record of 55.09 in the Lightning City.

Ortiz Jr., Pletcher Lead Gulfstream Standings

Heading into Wednesday's races, Irad Ortiz Jr. and Luis Saez are in their accustomed one-two spots in the jockey standings in Gulfstream Park's championship meet.

First post for Wednesday is 1:10 p.m. for a ten-race card.

Ortiz leads with 88 wins and Saez is second with 70. Ortiz is seeking his third straight title in Gulfstream's December through March meet.

In the 2019-2020 meet, Ortiz had 115 wins and Saez had 113 wins. The margin was just one victory in 2018-2019, with Ortiz beating Saez 135-134.

Wednesday is the 55rh day of Gulfstream's 86-day meet.

Paco Lopez is third with riding wins with 62, followed by Tyler Gaffalione with 58 and Emisael Jaramillo with 56.

On Wednesday, Ortiz has mounts in nine races and Saez has mounts in six races.

Defending champion Todd Pletcher leads the trainer standings with 42 wins.

Saffie Joseph Jr. is second with 35 wins and Mike Maker is third with 29.

GP Sprint Winners

Leinster and Mischevious Alex, both 2-5 favorites, were the winners in  Gulfstream's two Grade 3 stakes on Saturday Feb. 13.

Leinster  caught High Crime in the final strides and  won by a neck in the $100,000 Gulfstream Park Turf Sprint at five furlongs for 4-YO  and up.

With Luis Saez riding, Leinster won in 55.29 seconds on the course listed as Good following morning rain.  Julien Leparoux rode High Crime for trainer Darrin Miller.

It was the first race for Leinster sincc last Nov. 7 when he finished third in the Breeders'  Cup Turf Sprint (Grade 1) at Keeneland.

Trainer George "Rusty" Arnold said he expects that Leinster's next race will be either the El Quoz (Grade 1) on the Dubai World Cup undercard on March 28 or the Shakertown at Keeneland on April 3.

Mischevious Alex beat Frosted Grace by 3 1/4 lengths in the $100,000  Gulfstream Park Sprint, at six furlongs on dirt.

The field was reduced to four because of three scratches.

Mischevious Alex won in 1:09.55 on the track listed as Fast.

Trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. said he expects that Mischevious Alex will race next in the Golden Shaheen (Grade 1) in  Dubai or the Carter (Grade 1) at Aqueduct on April 3.

Royal Delta on Saturday

Gulfstream will draw entries on Wednesday afternoon for Saturday's $100,000 Royal Delta (Grade 3) at 1 1/16 miles on dirt  for fillies and mares 3-YO and up.

Gulfstream officials expect that Eres Tu and Mrs. Danvers will be among the entrants.

The Royal Delta is the only stakes race on Gulfstream's Saturday Feb. 20 card.

Gulfstream will have nine graded stakes races on its Feb. 27 Fountain of Youth day card.

The featured Fountain of Youth (Grade 2) is 1 1/16 miles on dirt for 3-YOs.

It is a prep for the Florida Derby (Grade 1) at 1 1/8 miles on dirt at Gulfstream on Feb. 27 and for the Kentucky Derby (Grade 1) at 1 1/4 miles at Churchill Downs in Louisville on May 1.

The Fountain of Youth is a second round points qualifying race for the Kentucky Derby. The first through fourth place finishers will receive 50, 20, 10 and five points respectively.

The Fountain of Youth will probably include Greatest Honour and Drain the Clock.

On Jan. 30, Greatest Honour won the 1 1/16 mile Holy Bull (Great 3) at Gulfstream.  He earned ten points in  that first round Kentucky Derby qualifying points race.

Also on Jan. 30, Drain the Clock won the seven-furlong Swale (Grade 3) at Gulfstream. The Fountain of Youth would be his first race longer than seven furlongs and first Kentucky Derby points race.

GP Rainbow 6 Carryover is $83,722 on Wednesday, Following Sunday's Large Betting Pool

HRFLA Staff Report

Gulfstream  Park  began a new Rainbow 6 pool on Sunday, and amid heavy wagering each ticket with all six winning horses was paid $690.80 on the 20 cents per combination-only bet.

There were 282 winning tickets, according to  HorseRacingFLA's review of Equibase charts. Program numbers of the winning horses were 3-3-4-1-7-1. Odds on the wining horses were 5-1 or loswer.

Sunday's wagering on the Rainbow 6 was $348,162.

Our review of Equibase charts indicates that was Gulfstream's second highest Rainbow 6 handle on the first day of a new pool at least since August 2015, when we began tracking Gulfstream handle.

The highest was $493,421 on May 10, 2020 which also was  a Sunday.

Gulfstream will be dark Monday and Tuesday.

It will resume Wednesday with ten races and first post of 1:10 p.m.

The carryover on the Rainbow 6 will be $83,722.  It will be on races five to ten, with the sequence scheduled to start at 3:10 p.m.

Gulfstream is guaranteeing that the payout will be at least $250,000 if there is just one ticket with all six winning horses. If the day's new bet plus the carryover  is less than $250,000, Gulfstream will put in the difference.

Record First-Day Pool

The record first-day Rainbow 6 bets was on a Sunday last year during an early stage of the COVID-19 pandemic when the vast majority of U.S. thoroughbred tracks did not have racing.

Gulfstream was one of a handful of tracks that were running in early May, and it gained substantial off-track handle from fans whose favorite tracks were not running.

Gulfstream has been racing without spectators since last March 15. Lone exceptions have  been in luxury suites and what it calls "private viewing" on a limited basis since December.

It had restaurant  areas on its second and third floors open on Pegasus day which was Jan. 23.

But in its current championship meet, Gulfstream is on a total handle pace similar to 2019-2020 when it set its all-time record of $11.3 million in average daily all-sources handle.

Gulfstream had total handle of $11,908,285 for eleven races on Sunday and $20,096,431 for twelve races on Saturday (including $5,831,817 on the Rainbow 6).

Gulfstream does not routinely provide breakdowns of the sources of its handle. But it apparently is among tracks that have benefited from the past year's increase in advance deposit wagering.

On Saturday, Gulfstream had a highly publicized mandatory payout of the Rainbow 6 jackpot--regardless of the number of tickets with all six winners.

The jackpot is made up of the entire coming in carryover and 80 percent of the day's new Rainbow 6 bet.

Gulfstream usually makes that payout only when there is just one ticket with all six winners.

On non-mandatory days with multiple winning tickets, such as Sunday, Gulfstream takes out 20 percent of the day's Rainbow 6 bet.  It then divides 56 percent among tickets with six winners and adds 24 percent  to the carryover.

Saturday Results

On Saturday, the coming-in carryover on the Rainbow 6 was $1,048,970.

Each ticket with all six winners paid $17,215.86 on a 20 c ent bet . There were 332 winning tickets, according to HRFLA's review of Equibase charts.

Program numbers of the six winning horses were 5-6-12-6-5-3.

Florida Tracks: Saturday Conditions and Scratches

HRFLA Staff Report

Conditions are listed as Fast for dirt and Good for turf at Gulfstream Park today.

At Tampa Bay Downs, following heavy morning rain, all scheduled for turf races have been moved to the dirt track that is listed as  Good.

The major news, which is not directly connected to weather is that the $100,000 Gulfstream Park Sprint (Grade 3),  is down to just four potential starters.

Three of the seven entrants have been scratched. All three will instead run in the $100,000 Pelican Stakes at Tampa Bay  Downs.

Those horses are Admiral Lynch, Shivaree and Edgemont Road.

The remaining Gulfstream Park runners, listed in order of posts four to seven are Cajun Brother, Mischevious Alex, Wind of Change and Frosted Grace.

The Gulfstream Park Sprint and the Pelican are both six furlongs on dirt  for 4-YO and up.

The Gulfstream Park Sprint is part of the Rainbow 6, which begins on the seventh race--and has a mandatory payout that Gulfstream officials expect will be from a pool of about $6 million.

It is likely that a large number of Rainbow 6 tickets will have  Mischevious Alex as a single.

The Pelican is the ninth race at Tampa. Barring further scratches, it will have seven starters.  He's Smokin' Now (8)  has been scratched.

At Tampa Bay. there are no scratches in the $50,000 Minaret which is the third race.  It is six furlongs on dirt for fillies and mares 4-YO and up.

At Gulfstream, there are no scratches  in the $100,000 Gulfstream Park Turf Sprint. It is five furlongs on turf for 4-YO and up.

Handicapping Saturday's Rainbow 6 at Gulfsream

From Gulfstream Park, here is handicapping information for Saturday's Rainbow 6--which will have a mandatory payout of the full jackpot regardless of the number of tickets with all six winners.

The carryover coming in will be $1,048,970.  Gulfstream officials anticipate that  $5 million or more will be bet on the Rainbow 6.

It is a 20 cent per combination-only bet. Multiple horses can be used in each race, thus producing multiple combinations.

For example, a ticket with two horses in each race has 64 combinations and costs $12.80.

This link https://youtu.be/tfRuYM0VWDk

is to a video with selections by Gulfstream analysts Acacia Courtney and Ron Nicoletti.

This link  to the Equibase Web site has the Gulfstream entries for Saturday. It has click-ons for handicapping material.  Some is free.  Some, including Past Performances, is at cost.

The Rainbow 6 sequence will span Races 7-12, kicked off by a mile maiden special weight race on turf that drew a full field of 3-year-olds, including Todd Pletcher-trained Golden Whim, a debuting son of Medaglia d’Oro who was a $1.5 million yearling purchase.

Well-bred colts trained by Chad Brown, Christophe Clement, Rusty Arnold and Kent Sweezey will also be making their respective debuts in a most challenging Race 7.

Pletcher-trained Black Magic Woman, a dominating 3 ¾-length maiden winner last time out, makes her return in Race 8, a mile optional claiming allowance for older fillies and mares. Dale Romans-trained Funnybet, who finished his 2020 campaign with three straight victories at Keeneland and Churchill Downs, is slated to make her 2021 debut.

Race 9, a mile turf race with a full field of $10,000 claimers, could well be a ‘spread’ race for many Rainbow 6 bettors.

Chad Brown-trained Structor figures to be tested by a group of battle-tested rivals in Race 10, a mile turf race for older horses. The 4-year-old son of Palace Malice has been idle since winning his third straight race in the 2019 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (G1) at Santa Anita.

Multiple graded-stakes winner Mischevious Alex will be a popular ‘single’ in Race 11, the $100,000 Gulfstream Park Sprint (G3), a six-furlong dash for 4-year-olds and up. The Saffie Joseph Jr.-trained son of Into Mischief is coming off an eye-catching optional claiming allowance win off a five-month layoff.

The Rainbow 6 sequence will be closed out with a mile maiden special weight race on turf for 3-year-old maidens in Race 12.  Bill Mott-trained Floriform, a son of Into Mischief who was beaten by just a half-length in his 2021 debut, figures to garner a lot of support from Rainbow 6 bettors in a race that includes several well-connected first-time starters.

The Rainbow 6 will be preceded by the $100,000 Gulfstream Park Turf Sprint (G3) in Race 6. Rusty Arnold-trained Leinster is slated to make his first start since finishing a close third in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint (G1`) at Keeneland. The 6-year-old son of Majestic Warrior had won the Shakertown (G2) and Woodford (G2) in his two prior starts.

Gulfstream: Saturday's Payout on Rainbow 6 Begins With Carryover of Over $1 Million

Gulfstream Park will have a carryover of $1,048,970 on its Rainbow 6 on Saturday.

Officials of the Hallandale Beach, Fla., track anticipate that about $5 million will be bet on the Rainbow 6.

The attraction is a mandatory payout of the Rainbow 6 jackpot--no matter  the number of tickets with the winning horses in all six races.

First post on Saturday will be at 12:10 p.m. for a 12-race card.

The Rainbow 6 will be on races seven to twelve, with the sequence scheduled to start at 3:10 p.m. It is a 20 cents per combination-only bet.

The jackpot is made up of the entire coming in carryover and 80 percent of the day's new Rainbow 6 bet.

Gulfstream usually makes that payout only when there is just one ticket with all six winners.

On non-mandatory days with multiple winning tickets, Gulfstream takes out 20 percent of the day's Rainbow 6 bet.  It then divides 56 percent among tickets with six winners and adds 24 percent  to the carryover.

On Friday there were 127 tickets with six winners. Each ticket paid $1,711.24on a 20 cent bet.

Winning program numbers thus far were 7-7-4-6-5-8.

The carryover coming in was $955,623. Bettors added $389,025 to the pool.

It was the 13th straight day with multiple winning tickets.  That led to the growth of the carryover to more than $1 million.

The first race has a $4,650 carryover on the Super Hi-5.  It is $20,000 claiming race at one mile on turf for 3-YOs.
