Florida Tracks: Saturday Conditions and Scratches

HRFLA Staff Report

Conditions are listed as Fast for dirt and Good for turf at Gulfstream Park today.

At Tampa Bay Downs, following heavy morning rain, all scheduled for turf races have been moved to the dirt track that is listed as  Good.

The major news, which is not directly connected to weather is that the $100,000 Gulfstream Park Sprint (Grade 3),  is down to just four potential starters.

Three of the seven entrants have been scratched. All three will instead run in the $100,000 Pelican Stakes at Tampa Bay  Downs.

Those horses are Admiral Lynch, Shivaree and Edgemont Road.

The remaining Gulfstream Park runners, listed in order of posts four to seven are Cajun Brother, Mischevious Alex, Wind of Change and Frosted Grace.

The Gulfstream Park Sprint and the Pelican are both six furlongs on dirt  for 4-YO and up.

The Gulfstream Park Sprint is part of the Rainbow 6, which begins on the seventh race--and has a mandatory payout that Gulfstream officials expect will be from a pool of about $6 million.

It is likely that a large number of Rainbow 6 tickets will have  Mischevious Alex as a single.

The Pelican is the ninth race at Tampa. Barring further scratches, it will have seven starters.  He's Smokin' Now (8)  has been scratched.

At Tampa Bay. there are no scratches in the $50,000 Minaret which is the third race.  It is six furlongs on dirt for fillies and mares 4-YO and up.

At Gulfstream, there are no scratches  in the $100,000 Gulfstream Park Turf Sprint. It is five furlongs on turf for 4-YO and up.
