Poiema, at 17:1 in race 9 won by 8-3/4 lengths, and ... led at every call (gate to wire) from the 2 post. You never know when a horse will break out like that. That's the fillies second win in 10 starts at Gulfstream.

Friday's Gulfstream Racing; Two Carryovers

Gulfstream Park will run eight races Friday, with a first post at 1:05 p.m.

Two carryovers are slated. The Rainbow 6, at $506,478, and the Super Hi-5 at $2,256.. The Rainbow 6 wager is on races 3 to 8, with the sequence scheduled to start at 2:14 p.m.

Gulfstream is setting a guaranteed gross pool of $700,000 Friday if the wagering + carryover are less than that.

Thursday's racing was one for the record-books.

First, no favorites won their races. That is rare. No favorite finish better than third (Show). Next, huge payouts were made on the Pick 5 and Rainbow 6. The early and late Pick-5 bets paid $25,514 and $40,506 respectively. No favorites winning was the cause of that. The high-odds winner at 14.7:1 in race 5 included BOTH the early and late Pick 5 bets. Our data shows about 9 winners on the early Pick 5 and three winners on the late Pick 5. Fifty-One horses raced in the Rainbow 6.

The Rainbow 6 paid $30,274.74 to three lucky patrons. The winning program numbers were: 8-5-3-5-10-2.

Betting on the Rainbow 6 was $162,234, and all sources track handle was $3.93 million Thursday. Stay tuned for some potentially crazy racing action again Friday.

Gulfstream Racing Thursday; 1:05 PM Post Time

Gulfstream Park will host eight races on Thursday, with first post at 1:05 p.m, and continue the race week through Sunday.

There are no stakes races slated for Thursday.

The usual suspect is on the carryover Thursday. The Rainbow 6, at $467,553. The 20 cents per combination-only bet is on races three to eight, with the sequence scheduled to start at 2:07 p.m.

Gulfstream is guaranteeing that Thursday's Rainbow 6 will have a $650,000 gross pool of the entire coming in carryover plus all of the days Rainbow 6 bets - to be paid if there is just one ticket with the winners of all six Rainbow 6 races.

If there are multiple tickets with all six winning horses,  Gulfstream will take out 20 percent. It will then divide 56 percent among tickets with six winners and add 24 percent to the carryover.

On the last race day, Sunday, there were 230 Rainbow 6 winners, each paid a miserly $373.58. Here's the reasons. Race 10 was moved off the turf to the All-Weather surface due to rainy conditions. Therefore, the bettors got a free pass on race 10; all horses were winners of race 10 for wagering purposes. The Rainbow 6 was in effect a Pick 5. And the Pick 5 was a Pick 4. Plus the high odds winner was just 7.4:1 in race 5 covering the Rainbow 6 wagers. The winning program numbers for the Rainbow 6 were: 8-7-6/10/12/13-1/6/7-4-ALL. So, in sum, when the track surface is changed after the wagering is complete, the bettors get ALL runners as winners in that race. Hope I explained that well.

Betting on the Rainbow 6 Sunday was $153,486, while total all-sources track handle was $5.21 million.
