Rainbow 6 Opener Won by 13-1 Shot
Norma's Hot Dude, at 13-1, won Gulfstream's first race, starting he Rainb oww 6.
The carryover coming, after 16 days, was $616,841. Bettors added $400,714 to the pool, We had projected that the day's bet could be as high as $400,000.
Norma's Hot Dude led almost the entire route in a one mile turf MSW race for2-year-old fillies. Yes, this horse is a she.
If she knocked you out of the Rainbow 6, the late Pick 5is coming up. Look for about $300,000 to be bet on that.

Rainbow 6 Time at GP
The sixth race is coming up at Gulfstream, to start the Rainbow 6.
The carryover is $616,8221--and we expet as much as $400,000 will be added,
We'll leave the handicapping to you
But here is apiece of advice. If you or you and partners can afford it, add that exra horses or two horses.
Chances are that one or more syndicates have
those horses and more. This strategy could keep a large bettor from having the lone wining ticket--and get you in on a good multiple ticket payoff.

Bauer's Bets: Turf Dash Stakes Results
PAY ANY PRICE (3) trained by Ralph Zadie and ridden by regular rider Edgar Zias proved to be too much for their 10 foes in the 14th edition of the $100,000 Turf Dash Stakes. The seven-year-old gelding was a 1/2 choice and won like one. Place went to longshot JAGUAR POZ (5) who outran his 28/1 post -time odds. CONQUEST ENFORCER (2) was along for the show at 6/1. AMERICAN SAILOR(4), a 46/1 shot, completed the Superfecta. The winner completed the 5 furlongs on the firm turf in 55.63 seconds.
Bauer's Bets: Lightning City Stakes Results
SMILING CAUSEWAY (2) sent off at 4/5 proved to be a prompt favorite in the 14th running of the $100,000 Lightning City stakes. Second finisher, WEALTHY SHIPMAN, (3) a 17/1 shot and COUSIN CLAIRE,(5) a 6/1 proposition added some valve to the exotics. EVERYTHING LOVELY, (8) winner of the local prep for this event, went off at 6/1 and led the pack early on, but could only last for fourth place. The winner ridden by top jockey Daniel Centeno and trained by turf ace Arnaud Delacour now has a record of 3 wins and 1 place at the 5 furlong distance on the grass, from 4 attempts.
Run Time Wins H. Alen Jerkens Sakes
Run Time caught Bullards Alley in the final strides and won by a nose in Saturday's $100.000 H . Allen Jerkens Stakes, at two miles on turf.
Ty;er Gaffalione rode Rum Time for trainer Mike Maker. The winning time was 3:23.97 on the course listed as firm.

Two $100,000 Stakes Tofday aT Tampa
The final turf stakes at Tampa Bay Downs this
year are a pair of $100,000 five furlong dashes on the turf.
The first co-feature is the Lightning City
Stakes, in Race 6 for fillies and mares 3-years-old and up.
This is a contest that has something for almost
everyone. That is, there are several contenders
For which a handicapper can make a case. Here
are some to consider.
The 9/5 morning line favorite is SMILING
CAUSEWAY (2) from the barn of ace turf trainer Arnaud Delacour with top jock
Daniel Centeno in the irons. This sophomore filly has 2 wins and a place at
this trip. The Delacour-Centeno combo is clicking at 36% now.
EVERYTHING LOVELY (8) is a major player at 3/1
having won the prep for this event two years in a row. She was third in last
year’s edition of the Lighting City after a less-than perfect journey.
Appears to be back in fine fettle now and has
won before with veteran Jose Ferrer who is back in the saddle and riding in top
form again, after recovering from serious injuries.
Next, we have MY SWEET DOVE (4) from the
powerful Ralph Zadie outfit with regular rider Edgar Zayas shipping in from
Gulfstream with the mount at 5/2. She has won in Tampa before and wouldn’t be a
shock here.
Finally, we have a couple of longshots that
could upset the whole thing. A wild card at 20/1 is J’S INDIAN CHARM (7) who has won her
last pair of starts on dirt. The Maria Bowersock charge appears very sharp now
and could be dangerous if she takes to the sod in her first try. Red-hot Ron Allen Jr. stays on, wins at 27% with
this barn.
SYLPHIDE (9) at 8/1 is another who could take
it all. She runs well fresh and has had 4 works for trainer Jane Cibelli who
gives a leg up to Antonio Gallardo who rode this filly to a good place finish
in an Allowance at Monmouth last August.
The second half of the stakes feature is the
Turf Dash for three-years-old and up. It
is Race 8.
Unlike the prior stakes, this race has a clear
cut favorite at 8/5 in PAY ANY PRICE (3) in Race 8. This gelding has won 8 of
12 attempts at this distance and comes into Tampa on a two-race win streak.
This Zaidie-Zayas runner will take some beating here.
Don’t see anyone to take a stand with here
against the chalk. Will play exactas and tri using
DUBINI (1), CONQUEST ENFORCER (2), GO CHRISTIAN
GO (8) and LITTLE CHESNEY (10). Will play a 3,10 exacta box for sure. GOOD LUCK

Fans who were expecting four stakes races at Gulfstream Park on Saturday will instead see
five.
That’s because 23 horses were entered for the Tropical Park
Oaks, with a $75,000 purse.
Rather than putting nine horses on an also eligibles list,
Gulfstream decided to split the Tropical Park Oaks into two divisions.
Both have $75,000 purses and are 1 1/16 miles on turf for
3-year-old fillies.
The two divisions are the seventh and ninth races. They are
part of an 11-race card with first post of 12:00 p.m.
We will have previews starting later this morning on our blog,
which can be accessed at the top of the home page of this Web site.
Saturday’s featured H. Allen Jerkens Stakes is the fifth
race. It is two miles on turf for
3-year-olds and up.
The tenth race is the
Via Borghese, at 1 3/16 miles on turf for fillies and mares 3-years-old and up.
The 1th race is the $75,000 Tropical Park Derby at 1 1/16
miles on turf for 3-year-olds.
All of the stakes except the H. Allen Jerkens are part of
the Rainbow 6—with a carryover that has grown to $531,275. It is on races six
to eleven.

Jaramillo to Miss About One Week After Thursday GP Spill
Jockey Emisael Jaramillo escaped serious injury from a spill in Thursday’s 10th race at Gulfstream Park, but is expected to likely miss the next week with body soreness, according to agent Bryce Soth.
Venezuela’s all-time leading rider with more than 4,000 wins including 13 year-end titles, Jaramillo came to South Florida in 2015. He was the leading rider at Gulfstream Park West’s Fall Turf Festival meet that preceded Gulfstream’s current Championship Meet.
Jaramillo, 40, was thrown when his mount, 2-year-old colt Cryogenic,
reacted greenly to the jockey’s whip while leading the one-mile maiden
claiming event for juveniles in deep stretch. Jaramillo was removed from
the track by stretcher and transported to Memorial Regional Hospital
for observation.
“The X-rays showed that nothing was broken, but he is very sore,” Soth
said. “He’s going to take a week to recover and we’ll go from there.”

Bauer's Bets: Tampa Race 5
In Race 5 we will try a $2 exacta box using SENTRY (4), CLEARLY (8) and KINGDOM KEPT (9). Also will bet $10 to win on CLEARLY (8) who ran well in his debut on the Tampa turf, finishing only a length behind the winner after a slow start. He gets first time Lasix and blinkers today, improvement is expected. Total investment $22. GOOD LUCK
Carried-over Super Hi-5 Hit at Gulfstream
The 11-race Friday card is underway at Gulfstream, and the carried over Super Hi-5 was hit in the first race.
It paid $3,241.20 for a $1 minimum bet. The number of wining tickets is not readily available.
Mayrhofen, at 27-1, won the one mile turf claiming race with Luca Panici riding for trainer Michelle Nihei.
The field had eight horses. Odds on the second through fourth place finishers were 9-2 or lower.
The lack of long shots finishing in those places helped several bettors hit the Super Hi-5.
The order of finish was 3-4-5-2-1.
The carryover coming in as $12,011. Bettors added $20,932 to the pool.

Tampa Bay: Fast and Firm for Wednesday Card
Tampa Bay Downs has the only thoroughbred racing in Florida this Wednesday afternoon, with ten races and first post of 12:25 p.m.
Across the state, Gulfstream
Park in Hallandale Beach is dark today while open for simulcasting from Tampa
Bay and its other regular signals.
At HorseRacingFLA we
avoid clichés the same way we try to avoid vulnerable underlays.
So, excuse our saying that it looks like a picture-perfect
day at Tampa Bay Downs in Oldsmar.
Temperatures will be in the high 70’s, and the Weather
Channel forecast is for a zero percent chance of rain.
About 3,000 fans will be on-site, and many
thousands more will be watching and wagering in frigid northern states—at simulcast
locations and on computers at their homes.
Conditions are Fast and Firm. Four
of the races are on turf, including the sixth and eighth which could be among
the day’s most attractive.
The sixth is one
mile for 2-year-old fillies that have started for a claiming price of $32,000
or less or an optional claiming price of $40,000 or less. It is a $40,000
optional claimer with a $21,500 purse.
The eighth is one mile—a $22,500 maiden special weight for
2-year-olds.
Bob Bauer, our associate editor for Tampa Bay, will have
coverage and his “Bob’s Bets” handicapping on this blog.
Meet
Leaders
Wednesday is the fifteenth day of Tampa Bay’s 2017-2018
meet.

Michael Stidham leads trainers with six wins. Defending
champion Gerald Bennett, Kathleen O’Connell and Denis Ward have three wins each
and are tied for second place.
