Gulfstream Moves Rainbow 6 Payout to Aug. 9

Noting that weather conditions are uncertain this weekend because of Hurricane Isaias, Gulfstream Park has rescheduled a mandatory payout on its Rainbow 6 to Sunday Aug. 9.

That payout had been scheduled for this Sunday Aug. 2.

As of 2:00 p.m. Friday, Hurricane Isaias is moving northwest toward the Bahamas. Forecasters expect that on Saturday and Sunday it will have a wind and rain impact on southeast Florida, including Hallandale Beach where Gulfstream Park is located.

Forecasters expect that the storm could make landfall in the Carolinas, but not in Florida.

Skies are clear at Gulfstream on Friday  afternoon and the track is proceeding with its ten-race card with conditions listed as Fast and Firm.

*Gulfstream has an 11-race card scheduled for Saturday, with first post at 12:00 p.m.

The co-features are the $100,000 Dr. Fager at six furlongs on dirt for 2-YO males and the $100,000 Desert Vixen at six furlongs on dirt for 2-Yo fillies.  Those are the first two races in this year's Florida Sire Stakes series.

*On Sunday, Gulfstream has scheduled a ten-race card with first post of 12:00 p.m.

If Gulfstream  makes any changes in these schedules, we will report on them.

"Gettin' Out Alive" Feature Starts Friday; We Handicap the Day's Last Race at Gulfstream

HRFLA Staff Report

This Friday, Sept. 11, HorseRacingFLA will begin a regular feature that we are calling "Gettin' Out Alive."

In it, HRFLA editor Jim Freer will handicap and suggest bets on the day's  last race at Gulfstream Park.

That race is also the final race of the Rainbow 6,  Late Pick 5 and Late Pick 4 at Gulfstream.

If you have been knocked out of one or both of those bets, hitting the exacta and maybe the trifecta on the last race can be a big lift for your confidence and for your bankroll.

One reason why Gulfstream's last race is a challenge is that it often is a claiming or maiden claiming race with a full field of twelve horses.

Gulfstream's carding of that kind of wide open or head-scratching kind of race as its finale provides incentive for many bettors to go deep into it on Rainbow 6, Late Pick 5 and Late Pick 4 bets--thus providing a boost to handle.

We will post Gettin' Out Alive around 12:00 p.m., which is first post time  most days at Gulfstream.

That  will allow us to factor in scratches and surface conditions and give you time to include us in your handicapping.

We will have Gettin' Out Alive on this blog and on our Web site https://www.horseracingfla.com/

We have staked ourselves with a mental bet $500 for the remaining thirteen days of Gulfstream's spring/summer meet, which will end Sept. 27.

Friday's ninth and last race is a $25,000 maiden claimer with a  $29,000 purse.  It is one mile on turf for 3-YO and up.

There  are 12 entrants, including  two also eligibles.

We'll have more around noon on Friday.

Gulfstrean:Two Large Carryovers, Turf is Good

Gulfstream Park on Thursday will have large carryovers on the Super Hi-5 and on the Rainbow 6.

First  post  is 12:00 p.m. for  the 10-race card.

The dirt track is  listed as Fast and the Turf is listed  as Firm.

Six races are scheduled for turf--numbers 1, 3, 4, 6, 8 and ten.

The Weather Channel forecast is for a 60 percent chance of rain during racing hours.

On the first race, there is a carryover of $15,879 on the Super Hi-5.

It is a $1 minimum bet that requires picking the  first  five  finishers  in correct order--with no consolation payoffs.  On Sunday, Gulfstream's  most recent race day, there were on winning Super Hi-5 tickets--thus the carryover.

The Rainbow 6 carryover is $503,179.  The 20 cents per combination-only bet will be on races five to ten, with the sequence scheduled to stat at 2:02 p.m.

Gulfstream is  guaranteeing that the Rainbow 6 pool will be at least $750,000 if there is just one ticket with the winners of all six races.

Such a ticket would take  down the jackpot and  end  the  carryover.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         ,,

Gulfstream Stakes Coming Up with Short Fields

Gulfstream Park's two Saturday stakes races are coming up, and both are down to only five starters.

The $75,000 Azalea and the $75,000 Carry Back both had six entrants.

This morning Addilyn was scratched from the Azalea by her trainer Antonio Sano and Prince James was scratched from the Carry Back by his trainer Kelsey Danner.

The Azalea had 10 nominations and the Carry Back had 15 nominations--both standard range for races like these stakes that draw local horses.

The Azalea is seven furlongs on dirt for 3-YO fillies.  Scheduled post is 4:00 p.m.

Boerne is the likely favorite.  She finished second in the Game Face at 6  1/2 furlongs at Gulfstream on June 6.

She has good early speed and jockey Edgard Zayas will be able to see the field from post six.

Don't Get Khozy, trained by Sano, appears to be the main threat. She has four wins and a second place finish in her last five starts, all in optional claiming or claiming races at Gulfstream.

Joseph Trejos will ride Don't Get Khozy. He is a five-pound apprentice but will not have that weight advantage in the Azalea because it is a stakes race.

Estilo Talentoso is coming off a maiden win on a sloppy track a one mile at Gulfstream and had a recent very fast workout at Gulfstream.

Bankruptonthebeach (Mike Maker-Miguel Vasquez) and Compensate (Cam Gambolati-Egar Prado) also are in the field.

The  Carry Back is seven furlongs on dirt  for 3-YO males.

The likely favorite is With Verv, who won the six-furlong Hutcheson at Gulfstream this year.  Prado will ride for trainer Larry Bates.

Trainer Kathy Ritvo and owner Reeves Thoroughbred Racing have exacta threats running as separate betting interests. They are Double Crown and Onenationonparade, appropriately named for today.

Cajun Brother and Poe also are in the Carry Back.
