During May, Tampa Bay raced three days each week--Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

The Oldsmar, Fla., track's June race dates are 1 and 3; 8 and 10; 15 and 17; 22 and 24.

During June, HorseRacingFLA will continue to work in conjunction with Internet station RadioStPete.

Big Saturday Carryovers at Florida Tracks

Welcome to Carryover Saturday at Florida's two thoroughbred tracks.

The big attractions are in the Rainbow 6 at Gulstream, starting at 3:16 p.m. and the Late Pick 5 at Tampa Bay, starting at 2:40 p.m.

Conditions are Fast and Firm at both tracks.

Gulfstream
The Rainbow 6 carryoverr  has grown to $1,050,170.  The 20-cent per combination only bet will be on races six to eleven with the sequence scheduled to start at 3:16 p.m.

Gulfstream is guaranteeing that the pool for the Rainbow 6 will be at least $1.65 million if there is just one ticket with all six winners. In that case, if the combinaton  of the carryover plus today's new Rainbow 6 bet is less than $1,65 million Gulfstream will put in the difference.

If there are multiple winning Rainbow 6  tickets, the pool will be the combined carryover plus 8o percent of the day's new Rainbow 6 bet.

The Weather Channel forecast is for just a 5 percent chance of rain durimg racing hours.

Tampa Bay
On Friday, there were no tickets with all five winners in the Late PIck  5 and no tickets with all six winners in the Ultimate Pick 6.  In addition, there were no winning tickets in the Super Hi-5 in the ninth and final race.

First post is 12:35 p.m. for the nine-race card.  The dirt track is listed as Fast and the turf is listed as Firm.

The carryovers:
* Super Hi-5 -- $2,099 in first race ($1 minimum bet)

*Pick 6  -- $14,594 on races four to nine with sequence scheduled to start at 2:08  p.m. It is a 20-cents per combination only bet.
*Late Pick 5 -- $38,029 on races five to nine with the  sequence set to start at 2:40 p.m. It s a 50 cent minimum bet.

Based on prior betting patterns  at Tampa Bay, we expect that wagering could be as much as $250,000 on the Late Pick 5.

Both tracks are again racing with no spectators, and thus no on-track betting. Fans may watch and wager on Gulfstream ad Tampa  Bay via Advance Deposit Wagering (ADW) services.

BAUER'S BETS: FAST & FIRM at TAMPA

Race 5 appears to be a wide-open affair with four year-old and up $16,000 Claimers sprinting five panels on the lawn. Post time is scheduled for 2:40 PM.

I'M CARDINAL (1), is still looking for the winner's circle this season, but has been in the money in all three of his starts for the powerful Baxter barn. Today he gets top jock Gallardo aboard and might get there with a good trip.
A fair price at 3/1 on the morning line.

THE BET  $10 to win on I'M CARDINAL (1) and a $2 exacta box with SAUCY DON (4) and SOLARTE (6).    1,4,6.   Total Bet $22             GOOD LUCK!!

PREVIOUS RESULTS  5/29   Lost $32, the bankroll is now plus $103.40.

BAUER'S BETS: FAST & FIRM at TAMPA

A full field of three year-old and up $10,000 NW2L Claimers will travel eight and one-half furlongs on the sod in Race 4. Post time is scheduled for 2:08 PM.

STREET LEGACY (9) appears to have an edge over his rivals in class and speed. This four year-old gelded son of STREET BOSS was an handy (more than five lengths) winner on January 23 and earned an impressive turf figure romping over $40,000 Maiden Claimers. No other runner in here has ever beaten horses that good. Today, he drops into $10,000 company for the Sweezey barn after a pair of starts with better that were compromised by traffic woes and bad racing luck.
Expect a huge effort this afternoon.

THE BET  $20 to win on STREET LEGACY (9) and a $2 exacta box with SNOW LION (10) and MASPERO (2).    2,9,10.    Total Bet $32          GOOD LUCK!!

PREVIOUS RESULTS   5/27  The exacta play finished first and third, lost $30. The bankroll is now plus $135.40

Rainbow 6 Opener Won by 50-1 Shot

I'm a Rockstar (4), at 50-1, won Thursday's fourth race at Gulfstream Park--starting the Rainbow 6.

The carryover coming in was $816,547.  Bettors added $271,474  to the Rainbow 6 pool.

Amadora (2), at 2-1, won the fifth race to start the Late Pick 5 and continue the Rainbow 6.  Bettors put  $257,849 into the Late Pick 5, which did not have a carryover.

A longshot win in the first-leg race enhances the prospect that there might be just one ticket with all six Rainbow 6 winners.

The formula for calculating the payoff produces a jackpot of about $1.03 milllion (all of the carryover plus 80 pecent of the day's new Rainbow 6 bet).

Gulfstream  has guaranteed that the pool will be at least $1.35 million if there is just one ticket with all six winners.

If there are multiple winning Rainbow 6  tickets, Gulfstream takes out 20 percent of the day's Rainbow 6 bet and then adds 24 percesnt to the carryover while dividing 56 percent among winning tickets.

Gulfstream Off the Turf, Again, on Thursday

Gulfstream Park has moved all five of Thursday's scheduled-for-turf races to the dirt track that is listed as Fast.

Of the day's remaining races, three have been taken off the turf. Those are the fifth, seventh and ninth races.

Skies are clear for  the nine-race card at the Hallandale Beach, Fla., track. But the recent stretch of rainy days has left the turf course in a still-drying-out condition.

Gulfstream also did not run any races on turf this past Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

BAUER'S BETS: FAST & FIRM at TAMPA

In Race 5 today, a very competitive group of sophomore Fillies will go a grassy mile under $75,000 NW1X Optional Claiming conditions.
Post time is 3 PM.

This could be a wide-open affair, we are going to play the top three contenders. QUEEN'S EMBRACE  (1) is a perfect 4 for 4 (a pair of wins on both surfaces) in Tampa and is the one to beat. REAL DOOZIE (3) has potent early foot and Gallardo, appears to be the one to catch. SUGAR FIX (5) is razor-sharp now, coming off a four length romp in her last outing. Red-hot Ron Allen Jr. has the return call and she is the one to fear.

THE BET   Play a $5 exacta box with the three contenders 1,3,5. Total Bet $30  GOOD LUCK!!

PREVIOUS RESULTS  5/23  Had the win and exacta. The $10 win bet returned $65, the $2 exacta paid $141.80. The day's profit was $184.80, the bankroll is now plus $165.40.

which began the day listed as Sloppy.

Because of rain and wet conditions, Gulfstream also did no have any turf racing this Saturday  and Sunday.

Going into today's 11th and last race at Gulfstream, there are  61 live tickets in the Rainbow 6.
Two tickets  have a horse singled. One has Little Tequilla (2) and the other has Gator Fifty Two (10)

Gulfstream Off the Turf for Sunday

Due to heavy rain this morning, Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Fla., has moved all six of its scheduled-for-turf races to the dirt track that is listed as Sloppy.

Those race are the first (already run), third, sixth, eighth, tenth and eleventh.

The Weather Channel forecast is for a 70 percent or greater chance of rain during this afternoon's racing hours

The Rainbow 6 carryover is $729,156. The 20-cents-per combination only bet is on races six to  eleven, with the sequence scheduled to start at 3:16 p.m.

Gulfstream has guaranteed that the Rainbow 6 pool will be at least $1.2 million if there is just one ticket with all six winners. Such a ticket would take down the Rainbow 6 jackpot of the entire coming-in carryover plus 80 percent of the day's new Rainbow 6 bet.

Heavy rain has been falling at Gulfstream Park this morning, and the Weather Channel forecast is for a 70 percent or greater chance of rain during this afternoon's racing hours

It is highly likely that Gulfsteam will be forced to move all six of the day's scheduled-for-turf races to the dirt track.  Those are  the first, third, sixth, eighth, eleventh and eleventh.

We will report that information when it is available, and we will have a list of scratches.

Tampa Bay Receives Regulators' Approval for Eight June Race Dates

The following is a  Tampa Bay Downs news release, with an Editor's Note.

Oldsmar, Fla., May 20, 2020 – Tampa Bay Downs has added eight dates in June to its 2019-2020 Thoroughbred racing calendar after its request was approved by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

The track will conduct racing in June on Mondays and Wednesdays: June 1, 3, 8, 10, 15, 17, 22 and 24. Spectators will not be allowed, nor will they be permitted to attend the track’s annual two-day Summer Festival of Racing June 30 and July 1.

The Silks Poker Room remains closed until further notice. The Downs Golf Practice Facility is open for business.

Tampa Bay Downs is racing on a Wednesday-Friday-Saturday schedule through May 30. Management expects the additional dates will help ease the financial hardship felt by many horsemen during the ongoing COVID-19 (coronavirus) crisis.

Fans can continue to wager on the Tampa Bay Downs races through online betting sites such as NYRA Bets, DRF Bets and TVG.

Editor's Note -- About a  dozen thoroughbred tracks in northern states  have delayed the opening of their stables, for training and for racing, due to the  coronavirus(COVID-19) pandemic.

Numerous trainers who usually move horses to those tracks in late April or early May are instead keeping horses at Tampa Bay Downs this spring.

BAUER'S BETS: FAST & FIRM at TAMPA

Four year-old and up $10,000 Claimers will go eight and one half furlongs on the grass in Race 7, which appears to be a wide-open betting affair. Post time is scheduled for 3:43 PM.

TALK TO THE MEDIA (3) was an upset winner at this level and distance on the weeds two races ago. Ignore his last try on the dirt. Today, he meets several rivals from that turf contest and a repeat of that effort can put him right back in the winners circle. Regular rider Huber Villa-Gomez retains the mount. Has a good chance at 5/1 on the morning line,

THE BET $10 to win on TALK TO THE MEDIA (3) and a $2 exacta box with GO HIPPO GO (6) and IRISH MAJOR (4).  3,4,6.  TOTAL BET $22

BAUER'S BETS: FAST & FIRM at TAMPA

Race 5 is a competitive event at eight and one-half furlongs on the green for older Fillies and Mares under $20,000 NW1X Allowance conditions. A case can be made for several runners here. Post time is scheduled for 2:40 PM.

MARNIE GIRL (4) gave a good account of herself in her debut on the Tampa turf on April 4, showing a good turn of foot and running second, by a head. Her next outing was a dirt race washed off the lawn, which she didn't like. Today, this six year-old Mare is dangerous back on the grass, third race after a layoff for trainer Ian Hemingway, who wins at a 22% clip in this situation. She appears to be the lone early speed and may wire this group.

THE BET  $10 to win on MARNIE GIRL (4) and a $2 exacta box with BE NIMBLE (6) and  ELUSIVE RIDER (5)  4,5,6    Total Bet $22
GOOD LUCK !!

Tampa Bay Downs Seeks Eight June Race Dates

Editor's Note -- On Friday May 14, Tampa Bay Downs issued this news release about its application with Florida regulators to have racing on eight additional days this June.

OLDSMAR, FL. – In an effort to bolster horsemen uncertain of their next step, Tampa Bay Downs is seeking approval from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation to add eight June racing dates to its 2019-2020 season.

The dates requested are Mondays and Wednesdays: June 1, 3, 8, 10, 15, 17, 22 and 24.

Tampa Bay Downs is currently racing each Wednesday, Friday and Saturday through May 30. The meeting ends on Tuesday, June 30, which is also the first day of the track’s annual two-day Summer Festival of Racing.

The Wednesday, July 1 card counts as the official start of the 2020-2021 Thoroughbred meeting which would then likely resume in late November.

(Editor's Note -Tampa Bay Downs was originally scheduled to end the regular part of its 2019-2020 meet on May 3. On April 29, it received permission from the Florida DBPR to add twelve race days in May. Tampa Bay Downs requested those dates for the same reasons it is requesting extra dates in June.)

While other tracks in the country are beginning to reopen – most notably Santa Anita, which resumes today, and Churchill Downs, which opens Saturday – the majority of spring-summer venues have pushed back their start dates or have yet to announce a revised schedule.

Tampa Bay Downs plans to continue racing without spectators, which has been the case since March 18 due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic. Fans by the thousands, forced indoors by the pandemic, have gravitated to online betting sites such as NYRA Bets, DRF Bets and TVG in record numbers, providing the wherewithal to keep purse money steady.

By adding the June dates, Tampa Bay Downs management hopes to help ease the financial hardship many horsemen are facing.

“The last two months have presented a challenge unlike any our sport has faced,” said Peter Berube, the track’s Vice President-General Manager. “Our trainers, jockeys, backstretch workers and security personnel have met it head-on and continued to provide racing that has brought positive recognition to Tampa Bay Downs."

Berube added: “We are proud of how everyone has responded and are hopeful the additional dates, if approved, will sustain the majority of our participants until they move to their summer and fall bases of operation."

Tampa Bay Downs has enforced strict protocol since March 18 in an effort to keep its human and equine populations healthy and safe.

Measures include limiting person-to-person contact by designating one person from each barn to interact with veterinarians and farriers (horse-shoers); decreasing the number of people allowed in a tack room or office at one time; practicing social distancing; wearing masks; cleaning and sanitizing water and feed buckets, tack, grooming supplies and other implements often throughout the day; and taking employees’ temperatures every day.

BAUER'S BETS: FAST & FIRM at TAMPA

Race 5 presents a well-bred field of older Fillies and Mares going a grassy mile under $20,000 NW1X Allowance conditions. There are many proven turf runners in here and bettors can make a case for several. Post time for this wide-open affair is 3 PM.

FASHION'S STAR (7) might be the one in this puzzling event. This Euro filly from the barn of Hall of Fame trainer Shug McGauhey, has been idle for a year, since racing in England. She makes her American debut here under top jock Gallardo and could be a lawn mower if ready. Shug won a trio of races last Wednesday and is scoring at a 44% clip in Tampa this season. She can run fresh, winning at first try on the sod at Newberry in 2018.

Tampa Bay Starts Extended Meet on Wednesday

Tampa Bay Downs will begin the extended part of its 2019-2020 race meet on Wednesday.

The Oldsmar,  Fla., track will have eight races with first post at 1:00 p.m.

Tampa Bay had been scheduled to close the meet this past Sunday May 3.

But late last month it received approval fom the Florida Division of Pari-Mutuel Wagering to add twelve race dates.

Those dates are Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays for the four weeks begining this Wednesday  May 6.

Since early April, Tampa Bay has been one of just five U.S. racetracks that have been holding thoroughbred races amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Along with the four other tracks, it is doing that with no spectators on site and thus with no live on-track betting.

Under the current circumstances, Advance Deposit Wagering (ADW)  accounts are the biggest source of betting for Tampa Bay Downs and the three other tracks that are still racing.

They are Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Fla., Fonner Park in Grand Island, Neb., and Will Rogers Downs in Oklahoma.

Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, Ark., ended ts season last Saturday.

(Program numbers in parentheses)
7th -- Dance D'Oro  (5)  20-1
8th -- Cassidy's Smile (4) 6-1
97h -- Congrats That (1)  2-1

The eighth  and ninth  races were the starts of the Late Pick 5 and Late Pick 4--both without carryovers.

The amounts wagered today are not yet readily available.

We will have an update prior to the 12th race.

Gulfstream Rainbow 6 Carryover Tops $800,000

The dirt track is listed as Fast and the Turf is listed as Firm for Gulfstream Park's 12-race Sunday card.

A highlight will be the Rainbow 6, where the carryover has grown to $833,607--after seven days without the jackpot  payout requirement of just one ticket with all six Rainbow  6  winning horses.

The 20 cents per combination only bet  will be on races seven to12 with the sequence scheduled o start at 3:48 p.m.

Gulfstream has guaranteed that the Rainbow 6 pool will be at least $1.5 million.  If the combination of the carryover and new Rainbow 6 bets is less than $1.5 million, Gulfstream will put in the difference if there is just one ticket with all six winning horses.
Gulfstream is racing again today with no spectators on site, and thus no on-track betting. It is doing that to comply with government guidances on limiting the number of persons at public events amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Fans can bet on GUlfstream races via  Advance Deposit Wagering (ADW) accounts.
