Gulfstream Thursday: First 2-YO race of 2020; Rainbow 6 Carryover of $905,177

Gulfstream Park  on Thursday will have its first race for 2-year olds in its 2020 season.

It will be the day's second race, with scheduled post of 1:34 p.m. and is a $65,000 maiden special weight at 4 1/2 furlongs on dirt for fillies.

The 2-YO race will be part of an eleven-race card with first post of 1:00 p.m.

It has eight entrants. Likely favorites are:  Lime, trained and bred by Wesley Ward with Tyler Gaffalione riding, and Awesome View, trained by Ralph Nicks for breeder-owner Jacks or Better Farm with Edgard Zayas  riding.

It will be the first "no lasix" race under a multi-track agreemen that bans the use of that drug on 2-year-olds within 24 hours of a race.  The drug, also known  as furosimide, is a diuretic that prevents some horses from  bleeding during a race.  But many horsemen and industry officials note that it can have side effects, including weight loss.

*The only Thursday carryover is on the Rainbow 6 - at $905,177.  The 20-cent per combination only bet is on races six to eleven with the sequence scduled to start  at 3:38 p.m.

The carryover has grown because through the first eight days of Gulfstream's spring meet there has not been a day with the jackpot payoff requirement of just one ticket with all six winners in the Rainbow6.

Gulfstream has guaranteed that today's Rainbow6 pool will be at least $1.5 million.  If there is just  one  winning ticket, Gulfstream will put in the remaining money if the combination of the carryover and today's Rainbow 6 bets are less than $1.5 million.

*Gulfstream's Thursday card will be run with no spectators, and thus will have no on-track betting.  That is part of its compliance with government guidances on the size of public gatherings amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Most racetracks and OTB offices that take simulcasting bets on Bulfstream are closed.

Fans can  still watch and wager on Gulfstream races by phone and Internet using advane ddepost wagering (ADW) accounts.

Gulfstream announced Thursday evening a mandatory payout of the Rainbow 6 pool on Sunday, April 19th. See our website ad below for the link to their site. www.horseracingfla.com
