Garter and Tie, Cookie Dough Win in Sire Stakes at Gulfstream

Gulfstream Park has a 12-race Sunday card, with first post of 12:45 p.m.

On Monday, which is Labor Day, Gulfstream also will have twelve races with first post of 12:45 p.m.

Those two race cards follow a Saturday when Garter and Tie and  Cookie Dough were winners in Florida Sire Stakes races for 2-year-olds. Both races were seven furlongs on the dirt track that was listed as fast.

Garter and Tie caught Well Defined in the final strides and won by a half length in $200,000 Affirmed for males.

Garter and Tie won in 1:23.05, with Emisael Jaramillo riding for trainer Ralph Nicks and breeder/owner Jacks or Better Farm.

Cookie Dough took the lead coming out of the turn and went on to beat Starship Nala by 6 ½ lengths in the $200,000 Susan’s Girl for fillies.

Cookie Dough won in 1:24.46, with Jeffrey Sanchez riding for trainer Stan Gold and owner/breeder Arindel.

The FSS series wiil conclude on Sept.29 with the $400,000 In Reality for males and the $400,000 My Dear Girl Stakes for fillies. Both races will be 1 1/16 miles on dirt.

There will be no sweeps in either FSS division this year.

Cajun Firecracker won the first race for males, the $100,000 Dr. Fager on Aug, 4. He finished third in the Affirmed.

Capture Your Dream won the first race for fillies—the $100,000 Desert Vixen on Aug. 4. She finished sixth in the Susan’s Girl.

The FSS series is restricted to sons and daughters of Florida-based stallions whose owners have nominated them for the program.

The FSS is sponsored by the Ocala-based Florida Thoroughbred Breeders’ and Owners’ Association.

Gulfstream had two other stakes races on Saturday.

Entirely won the Sharp Susan at 7 ½ furlongs on turf for 2-year-old fillies.

Dakota’s Dude won the Proud Man at 7  ½ furlongs on turf 

for 2-year-old males.

*Sunday’s feature race is the Wasted Tears Stakes at 1 1/16 miles on turf. It is the 11^th race with scheduled post of 6:03 p.m.

The Rainbow 6 has a carryover of $25,620. It will be on races seven through twelve with the sequence scheduled to start at 3:52 p.m.

On Saturday there were no tickets with the winners of all six Rainbow 6 races.  That was a result of wins in the sequence by three horses at double-digit odds.

So, Gulfstream made a payout to the 18 tickets with five winners.  Each received $1,993.28 on the 20-cent only bet.

Bettors added $64,113 to Rainbow 6 pool. Of that Gulfstream took out 20 percent, divided 56 percent among tickets with five winners and added 24 percent to the carryover.
