GP: Mandatory Rainbow 6 Payoff on Sunday; Carryover Will Be $3.3 Million on Thursday

By Jim Freer and Barry Unterbrink

Gulfstream Park announced on Monday that it will have a mandatory payout on its Rainbow  carryover on Sunday Jan. 26.

The carryover is $3,133,994 through Monday, and that is raising prospects that the pool could be $15 million or  more on "mandatory day."

On Sunday, Gulfstream will pay out the entire coming-in carryover plus 80 percent of the day's new bets on the Rainbow 6.

Through Monday's races, the special Martin Luther King  holiday  card, the carryover is  38 days.old.  That is the entire length, thus far, of Guilfstream's 2019-2020 championship meet that began Nov. 29.

On most days, Gulfstream pays out the carryover and 80 percent of the new Rainbow 6 bet only on days when there is just one ticket with all six Rainbow 6  winners,

On Monday there were 187 Rainbow 6  tickets with all six winners. Each was paid $1,421.20 on the 20-cents per combination only bet.

Program numbers of the winning horses were 3-4-3-11-4-8. Dr. Shane, at 12-1 in the eighth race, was the only Rainbow 6  winner  at double digit odds.

Per its rules for days with multiple tickets with all six winners. Gulfstream took out 20 percent of the Rainbow 6 bet. It then divided 56 percent of that bet among tickets with six winners and added 24  percent to the carryover.

After its holiday racing card on Monday, Gulfstream will not have live racing this Wednesday.

It will resume racing this Thursday with  ten races and first post of 12:35 p.m. The Rainbow 6 will  beon races five through ten,. with the sequence scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m.

It will race again on Friday and on Saturday, which is Pegasus World Cup Day and will likely have more than $3 million in total handle with several million on the Rainbow 6.

The large carryover is attracting numerous betting syndicates who are "going deep" in several legs of the Rainbow 6. That apparently is making it difficult for one bettor to be the only one to find a longshot winner that would :take down the Rainbow 6.

Even if the Rainbow 6 is "taken down" by a single ticket before Sunday, it will attract perhaps $1 million or more that day.

If the carryover is still there for Sunday, it could be as high as $5 million  In that case, Gulfstream is saying that Rainbow 6 handle could be in the $10 million range--mirroring several other mandatory payoff days on the Rainbow 6  at  Gulfstream.
