Deckology (1), at 7-2, rallied to beat the 4-5 faorite R Man Joe (4) by a length in Friday's fifth race at Gulfstream.
The race was the start of the Rainbow 6. Due to rain early today. Gulfstream moved that race from turf to dirt along with three other Rainbow 6 races--six, eight and ten.
Because of scratches, betting on the Rainbow 6 was $289,230--relatively low for the current cycle in which the Rainbow 6 carryover is 39 days old.
The carryover coming in was $3,205,199.
Added to today's bet, the pool is $3,494,429.
Gulfstream had guaranteed that today's pool would be at least $4 million if there is just one winning ticket that takes down the jackpot. If that happens (unlikely with reduced fields) Gulfstream would need to put in just over $500,000.
In an upcoming post we will look at how the Rainbow 6 will fit into Saturday's Pegasus card and what's in store for Sunday when there will be a mandatory payout of the jackpot/carryover--no matter the number of tickets with the winners of all six Rainbow 6 races.
