Gulfstream Park will have
a high-profile Saturday, with the five Sunshine Millions stakes in the
afternoon and the annual Eclipse Awards dinner and presentations at night.
The Eclipse Awards for
2016 will be presented to top horses and human participants in thoroughbred
racing, as voted by a group of racing writers and officials of racetracks and
industry organizations.
The festivities will start at 8:00 p.m. on Friday at a
cocktail reception in Gulfstream’s walking ring, where fans can mingle with
Eclipse Award attendees. It will feature
music, dancing, open bar, gourmet hors d’oeuvres and desserts with proceeds
benefiting the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance. The cost of admission is a
minimum donation of $20 to TAA.
We will have coverage of the Sunshine Millions and of
the Eclipse Awards later on Friday, and on Saturday.
The Friday card has ten races with first post at 12:35
p.m.
Conditions are listed as fast and firm. The Weather Channel forecast is for a zero
percent chance of rain during racing hours.
Friday’s featured third race is 1 1/16 miles on turf
for 4-year-olds and up. It is a $100,000
optional claimer with a $50,000 purse, with six entrants.
Chad Brown trains the two likely favorites. They are March, ridden by John Velazquez, and
Saham, ridden by Javier Castellano.
There is a $26,413 carryover on the Rainbow 6, on
races five through ten.
