Gerald Bennett Goes 2 for 2 Sweeping Both Stakes Races

What a day for the returning leading trainer Gerald Bennett winning both the Inaugural Stakes and the Sandpiper Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs.

R Angel Katelyn immediately set the pace and jumped out in front never losing the lead with a winning time of 1:10.67.  With some momentum from her last win on November 12 at Gulfstream Park West, The 2- favorite showed no signs of letting up on her speed.  Coasting the dirt completely unbothered , the 2-year old filly won by 3 1/2 lengths of Todd Pletcher's Jumby Bay, whom finished in second place. Jumby Bay chased the whole race broke from being three wide to the rail around the the upper stretch but was not able to catch the leader.

1 1/4 lengths later came Rashette for third place, the filly rode by Eduardo O. Nunez and trained by the one and only Kathleen O' Connell.  Rashette was another favorite for the Sandpiper stakes whom finished third at Gulfstream Park West as well November 12 in the Juvenile Filly Sprint, but raced off the pace 2 1/2 lengths clear of Star Gala , the fourth place horse.

This 9th race was once again one for 2-year olds, a 6 furlong race on the dirt with a total Win Place Show pool of $196,225.  The final charts for the race are as follows below:
