Spanish Concert Takes Easy Win in The Minaret

The eighth co-feature race, The Minaret Stakes, many bettors had Two-Time champ You Bought Her winning a third time before she retires but Ronnie Allen Jr. and Spanish Concert had another agenda.

The 7-year old mare under the care of Kathleen O'Connell, dominated this race from the gate taking a quick, early lead over everyone including the two favorites You Bought Her and No Fault of Mine.  The two favorites were beat early in the race in last during the beginning of the race. You Bought Her advance some to sixth place, and No Fault of Mine finished last.

Spanish Concert clocked in at 1:09.63 for the 6 furlong race, 3 1/4 lengths ahead of My Mertie, the second place finisher.  She set the pace and was clear for the win early, completely unchallenged by anyone.

My Mertie chased two wide came three wide in the lane, dug in gamely and came in second, 1 1/4 lengths ahead of Southern Ring, the third place finisher. Southern Ring chased inside and finished evenly on the rail by a neck.

Up next is the second feature stakes race of the meet, The $100K Pelican Stakes favoring Futile
