Candy Waltz Dominates 1st Race at Tampa

It is a beautiful day in Oldsmar, sunny around the mid 70s.

The first race of the day is complete, and went to Candy Waltz, the oldest gelding on the field at eight-years old. William Brauns is the owner, and Fernando De La Cruz rode the experienced horse for its second win at Tampa Bay Downs .

Candy Waltz graced the finish line unbothered with a clocked in finish of 1:45.79 traveling a distance of 1 1/16 miles on the dirt.  The morning-line odds for him was 7-2. Coming in second was the morning-line 2-1 favorite W W Concerto who previously beat him here not to long ago on January 18, and in third place was Father Dennis who also beat him in the same race where he finished fourth.

Candy Waltz took over on the far turn, drifted out in the upper stretch and drew clear for the win.

The total Win Place Show pool came to $97,170.
