As noted this morning in
our story, today’s tenth and feature race at Tampa Bay Downs appears wide open.
The opening day feature
is five furlongs on turf for fillies and mares 3-years-old and up, with a
$27,500 purse.
There are ten
entrants. We suggest a special look at
four of them. They are Everything
Lovely, Smoke Signals, Cali Thirty-Seven
and Giddy Up.
All but Giddy Up are
making their first starts at Tampa Bay Downs.
Everything Lucky is a probable
favorite. She has been running in stakes races, and has two second place
finishes and a third in five starts this year. All have been on turf.
In her last race she
tired and finished seventh in a 12-horse field in the Franklin County (Grade 3)
at 5 1/2 furlongs at Keeneland in Lexington, Ky., on Oct. 14.
Smoke Signals, in her
stakes debut, rallied along the rail to finish third in that race. She was 58-1, and will be at, much lower odds
today.
Cali Thirty-Seven is
definitely going to try to get an early jump, and if she does she should have a
good chance of winning because of her speed.
In her last race, she
held first place the first and second calls but faded to finish sixth. However, that race was 1 1/16 miles and she
most likely became tired towards the end. But with today’s race being only 5
furlongs, she might have more stamina to hold her early lead if she gets
one.
Giddy Up’s chances could
depend on how she adapts to the
turf after primarily racing on the dirt.
