A pair of allowance/optional claiming races are the highlights
of Sunday’s ten-race card at the Gulfstream Park West meet.
First post is 12:35 p.m. for the races being held at
Calder in Miami Gardens.
The dirt track is listed as fast and the turf is
listed as firm. The Weather Channel forecast is for a zero percent chance of
rain during racing hours.
The eighth race is 6 ½ furlongs on dirt for
Florida-bred fillies and mares three-years-old and up. The purse is $40,000 and
the optional claiming price is $12,500.
A likely favorite is the speedy First Distinction (trainer Ralph Ziadie-jockey Edgard Zayas), who
has the rail and a history of breaking well from inside posts.
Flash
Jak
(Fernando Abreu-Emisael Jaramillo). Sweet
Madea (Stan Gold-Roberto Alvarado
Jr.) and Jamie’s Dancer (Barry Rose-Miguel Vasquez) will
be closing and are strong candidates to be in the exacta.
The ninth race is 7 ½ furlongs on turf for Florida-breds
three-year-olds and up. The purse is
$40,000 and the optional claiming price is $16,000.
Total
Joint (Jason Servis-Paco Lopez), Completely Bonkers
(Bobby DiBona-Jonathan Gonzales) and Niche (Allen Iwinski-Nik Juarez) are
among likely favorites.
There is a carryover of $33,173 on the Rainbow 6, on
races five through ten.
We will have coverage during the afternoon on this blog.
