Oscar Performance Wins BC Juvenile Turf

Oscar Performance turned in such a showing, and not far from Hollywood, on Friday in winning the $1 million Juvenile Turf (Grade 1) to start the Breeders' Cup program.

Oscar Performance, at 6-1, beat the British-based Lancaster Bomber by 1 1/4 lengths  at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, Calif. Good Samaritan, the 5-2 favorite, finished third by a neck in the field of 14 two-year-olds.



Good Samaritan was forced outside on the first turn and staged an impressive rally to finish third.



Oscar Performance won in 1:33.28 on the course listed as firm. Jose Ortiz rode for trainer Brian Lynch.


Wellabled, a horse we profiled today, finished tenth. He led until the final turn, with Oscar Performance tracking him.

Oscar Performance came into the Breeders' Cup off a win in the Pilgrim Stakes (Grade 3) at Belmont Park.

Good Samaritan's prior race was a victory in Summer Stakes (Grade 2) at Woodbine in Etobicoke, Ont.  He is  trained by Bill Mott.

Wellabled won this year's Arlington-Washington Futurity (Grade 3) at Arlington Park in Arlington Heights, Ill.  Larry Rivelli trains Wellabled.

Lynch, Mott and Rivelli are  all regulars on the Florida winter training circuit.  Thus, it is very possible  that Oscar Performance and Wellabled could all race at Gulfstream Park or at Tampa Bay Downs early in 2017.
