The Gulfstream Park West meet will have a Rainbow 6 carryover of $105,852.71 on Sunday, and it will be part of a mandatory payout on the bet.
Meet sponsor Gulfstream Park will pay out the full carryover plus 80 percent of the day's new bets on the Rainbow 6--regardless of the number of tickets with the winners of all six Rainbow 6 races.
Based on past betting patterns, it is likely that $500,000 or more will be added in Rainbow 6 bets,
The GP West meet will have ten races with first post of 12:35 p.m. The Rainbow 6 is on races five through ten.
Sunday is closing day of the GP West meet, which Gulfstream Park is holding at Calder in Miami Gardens.
Gulfstream usually pays out the carryover plus 80 percent of the day's Rainbow 6 bet only on days when there is just one ticket with the winners of all six races.
On other days, 56 percent of the new bet is divided among tickets with the most winners and 24 percent is added to the carryover,
But a state law prohibits Florida parimutuels from continuing a carryover into a new meet Thus, there is a mandatory payout on Sunday,
The Rainbow 6 is a 20-cent only bet. Multiple horses can be used in each race, thus allowing a ticket to have multiple 20-cent combinations.
For example, a ticket with two horses in each race has 64 combinations and costs $12.80.
On Saturday. $48,344 as bet into the Rainbow 6. There were nine tickets with all six winners. Each received $3,006.12. The carryover grew from $94,258 to $105,852.
Gulfstream will begin its 2016-2017 championship meet on Saturday Dec.3 at its track in Hallandale Beach.
