Mr. Baker came within one-tenth of a second of a
Calder track record in winning the sixth race at Wednesday's Gulfstream Park West meet.
Mr. Baker was clocked in 1:09.05 for six furlongs on dirt. The track record is 1:08.95, set by Forty One Carats in the then-ungraded Smile Sprint Handicap on Oct. 7, 2000.
Mr. Baker led at every call and beat Springmeier
by three lengths. Edgard Zayas rode for trainer Ralph Ziadie.
This is the fourth day of the GP West meet and, overall, times for dirt sprints have been faster than usual. We will have more on this topic.
