Fans who like the challenge of handicapping maiden
races with well-bred two-year-olds are in store for some fun at the Gulfstream
Park West meet on Friday.
There are four of those races on the ten-race card,
with first post of 1:15 p.m.
The dirt track is listed as fast and the turf course
is listed as firm at Calder—where Gulfstream Park is holding its third annual GP West meet.
Four races are scheduled for turf, with the rail at
five feet, and likely will stay on that surface. The Weather Channel forecast is for just a 15
percent chance of rain in and around Miami Gardens, where Calder is located.
The highlight of the two-year-old races is the sixth,
at five furlongs on turf. It is a $34,000
maiden special weight.
The field is down to nine, following the morning
scratch of Bad Nate.
Our
War Eagle and In His
Image are likely favorites.
The fifth, seventh and ninth races also are for
two-year-olds.
We will have afternoon coverage on this blog.
The carryover on the Rainbow 6 is $24,164 on races
five through ten.
