Bettors seeking some big exotic payoffs, including the carried-over Super Hi-5, made $603,043 in wagers on Thursday's third race at the Gulfstream Park West meet.
The carryover coming in on the Super Hi-5 was $36,334. Bettors added $217,410--many chasing a carryover of what they consider "other people's money."
Sir Sebastian, the 5-2 second choice, won the race and long shots Mr. Papillon (23-1) and Son of Greatness (24-1) finished fourth and fifth in the ten-horse field. It was a $25,000 maiden claiming race.
The winning payoff was $3,156 for the minimum $1 bet.
The first five finishers were 1-7-4-2-5.
Gulfstream has the Super Hi-5 on all races with seven or more starters. There are no consolation payoffs, such as four of five, and over several races that can lead to large carryovers.
