Jockey Edgard Zayas escaped injury on Wednesday, when
he was unseated by his mount Illustrious Son in the seventh race at the
Gulfstream Park West meet.
Illustrious Son clipped heels with Enroute and fell on
the backstretch. Illustrious Son, a 3-year-old colt, later was walked off the
track. Gulfstream reported that he was uninjured. Enroute stayed on his feet
and finished sixth in the seven-horse field.
Zayas leads the GP West meet in wins, with 19 after 14
race days.
Jaramillo is second, with 16 wins, in the meet being
held at Calder under sponsorship of Gulfstream Park. Gaffalione is third with
14 victories.
On Wednesday at GP West, Zayas and Jaramillo each
rode two winners and Gaffalione rode one
winner.
Zayas is listed on five mounts on Thursday’s eight-race
card. Gaffalione is listed on seven
mounts and Jaramillo has four mounts.
Zayas led jockeys in wins at last year’s GP West meet.
He finished second in wins at the recent Gulfstream Park summer meet, despite missing several weeks
due to rib and knee injuries. Gaffalione led jockeys in victories at that meet.
Through Wednesday, Antonio Sano leads GP West trainers
in wins with nine and Kathleen O’Connell is second with six victories.
Sano led trainers in wins at last year’s GP West meet
and at this year’s Gulfstream summer meet.
