Springmeier Wins Allowance at Tampa Bay

Springmeier, ridden by Antonio Gallardo, found an opening along the rail and won by a nose in a stretch duel with My Johnny Be Good and Daniel Centeno in Sunday's second race at Tampa Bay Downs.

Springmeier won at six furlongs on dirt in 1:10.44 on the dirt track listed as fast.  The race was a $40,000  allowance/optional claimer with a $24,000 purse.

The race  was the first at Tampa Bay for Springmeier, a 4-year-old gelding trained by John Vinson.

Springmeier, at 7-1, was the fourth betting choice in the six-horse field and My Johnny Be Good was the second choice at 2-1.

Sky and Sea, a filly, finished third.  Thunder Harbor, the 3-2 favorite, came in fourth.  He had won his last  two races, both at six furlongs at the $25,000 level at Tampa Bay.
