GP West on Monday: Special Columbus Day Card Has Two Carryovers and Noon First Post

Today  is Monday Oct. 12, Columbus Day, and Gulfstream Park is recognizing it by holding a special holiday card at its Gulfstream Park West meet.

First post is 12:00 p.m. for a nine-race card at Calder in Miami Gardens, Fla.

There are no stakes races. But there are two attractive carryovers.

The first race has a Super Hi-5 carryover of $5,286. It is a $46,000 Maiden Special Weight race, at five furlongs on turf for 2-YOs.

The Rainbow 6 has a carryover of $88,549.  The 20 cent per combination-only  bet is on races four  to nine with the sequence scheduled to start at 1:44 p.m.

We will have a more detailed preview on this blog later this morning, after track conditions and other changes have been announced for today.

The GP West meet usually has racing on Wednesday through Sunday.

It will be dark this Wednesday and then resume racing Thursday with eight races and first post of 12:00 p.m.

Watching and Wagering

The GP West meet is closed to spectators and does not have any live betting on site.

At its track in Hallandale Beach, Gulfstream has its north tent area open on GP West race days for simulcast betting on those races and on other tracks that are part of its regular simulcast menu.

Betting on Gulfstream West races may be done on most Advance Deposit Wagering (ADW) Internet and phone services. Many sports books, race tracks and OTB offices have simulcasting on GP West races.

Tampa Bay Downs, Hialeah Park and Pompano Park are among Florida pari-mutuels that carry the GP West simulcast schedule.
