GP West: Mandatory Rainbow 6 Payoff Saturday; Fast and Firm for Friday's Card

On Saturday, the Gulfstream Park West meet will have a mandatory jackpot payout on its Rainbow 6 bet.

There is a prospect that the pool could be in the  $500,000 range or higher if the jackpot is not taken down by a  single ticket on Friday.

The GP West Friday card has eight races with first post of 12:00 p.m. The GP West meet is sponsored by Gulfstream Park and run at Calder in Miami Gardens, Fla.

The Friday card  has a Rainbow 6 carryover of $92,016. The 20-cents per combination-only  bet is on races three to eight, with the sequence set to start at 1:04 p.m.

The dirt track is listed as Fast and the turf is listed as Firm. The first, third, fifth and eighth races are scheduled for turf.  The Weather Channel forecast is for the chance of rain to increase from 15 percent to eighty percent during the course of racing hours.

The Rainbow 6 jackpot consists of the entire coming in carryover plus 80  percent of the day's new Rainbow 6 bets (20 percent takeout).

Gulfstream usually pays out the jackpot only if there is just one ticket with the winners of all six Rainbow 6 races.

On a mandatory payout day, the jackpot is divided among all tickets with six winners.

Ona non-mandatory days when there are multiple winning tickets, Gulfstream takes out 20 percent  of the new bet. It then divides 56 percent among winning tickets and adds 24 percent to the carryover.

Assuming that $100,000 is bet on the Rainbow 6 on Friday, the carryover will grow by 24 percent--and be in the $115,000 range on Saturday.

That size carryover usually attracts $500,000 or more in bets on a mandatory payoff day.

We will have reports on GP West this afternoon on this blog.
