Spelling
Again and Delta Bluesman won Saturday’s co-feature
races on Summit of Speed day at Gulfstream Park, and in the process gained starting gate spots in 2016 Breeders’ Cup
races.
Spelling Again, at 3-1, held off the late-running Cali Star to win by a neck in the
$250,000 Princess Rooney (Grade 2) at seven furlongs on dirt for fillies and
mares 3-years-old and up.
The victory earned Spelling Again an entry fee-paid
berth in this year’s Breeders’ Cup Filly and
Mare Sprint to be run Nov. 4 at Santa
Anita Park in Arcadia, Calif.
Spelling Again won in 1:22.09 on the track listed as
fast. Luis Saez rode for trainer Brad Cox and owner See Jay Racing.
Delta Bluesman took the lead coming around the turn
and pulled away to win by 3 ¾ lengths over
Limousine Liberal in the $250,000 Smile (Grade
2).
The Smile is six furlongs on dirt for 3-year-olds.
The win earned Delta Bluesman an entry fee-paid berth
in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint (Grade 1)
at Santa Anita on Nov. 5.
Delta Bluesman, at 3-2, won the Smile in 1:08.94.
