Gulfstream Starts Thursday with Super Hi-5 Carryover

Gulfstream Park will begin a four-day race week on Thursday, with nine races and first post of 1:15 p.m.

One attraction is a carryover of $5,237.30 on the Super Hi-5 on the first race. It is a $20,000 maiden claimer at 1 1/16 miles on turf for 3-year-olds and up.  There are eight entrants.

The Rainbow 6 will have a carryover of $18,374.19. It will be on races four through nine.

The featured eighth race is one mile on dirt for fillies and mares 3-years-old and up. It is a $16,000 allowance optional claimer with a $43,000 purse.

Five races (the odd numbered ones) are scheduled for the turf—all with the rail at 108 feet.

Carryovers

Bettors have had two days to handicap Thursday’s first race. Based on Gulfstream betting patterns in similar situations it is likely that $30,000 or more will be bet on the  Super Hi-5 in the first race.

There is a carryover because on Monday, the most recent race day, there were no Super Hi-5  tickets with the first five finishers in correct order in either of the last two races.

There are no consolation payoffs, such as four of five places.

When there are no tickets with the full correct order, the pool (including carryover) is rolled over to the next race with seven or more entrants.

Thus the closing race pool and carryover on Monday’s Super hi-5 carried into Thursday. It is $1 minimum bet with an 18 percent takeout.

Big City Heart and Judith’s Novel are likely favorites and probably should be included in win and place holes on exotic bets.

Awesome Relic and likely long shot Home Power should be considered for fourth and higher.  Both have impressive breeding  and are making their turf debuts

The 20-cent only Rainbow 6 requires picking the winners of the last six races.

On most days, such as Thursday, Gulfstream pays out the Rainbow 6 carryover and the day’s new bets (minus 20 percent takeout) only on days when there is just one ticket with all six winners.

If there is no single ticket “jackpot  winner,” Gulfstream divides 56 percent of the Rainbow 6 new bets among tickets with the most winners and adds 24 percent to  the  carryover.
