Gulfstream Jockey Update: Jaramillo and Gaffalione
Emisael Jaramillo rode three winners at Gulfstream Park on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Tyler Gaffalione did not ride any of his seven mounts on Thursday due to what Gulfstream called a “family issue.”
Gaffalione leads summer meet jockeys with 34 wins through 17 days. Jaramillo is second with 21, followed by Luca Panici with 15.
None of the horses that Gaffalione was scheduled to ride Friday won with their substitute riders.
Jaramillo’s Thursday winners, with $2,00 win prices and trainers, were:
*First race: Spicy ($5.80), Ronny Werner
*Fourth race: Firespike ($5.80), Michael Maker
*Ninth race: Scam ($3.60), Peter Walder
Gaffalione’s summer meet wins also have been mostly with low odds horses and with a variety of Gulfstream’s most successful trainers.
Equibase shows Gaffalione scheduled for ten mounts at Gulfstream on Friday and six mounts on Sunday. He has no mounts scheduled at any North American track on Saturday.
At Gulfstream, Jaramillo is listed on six mounts on both Friday and Sunday.
On Saturday he is scheduled to ride Delta Bluesman in the Vanderbilt (Grade 1) at Saratoga.
Jaramillo rode Delta Bluesman in his win in the Smile (Grade 2) at Gulfstream on July 2. Delta Bluesman is trained by Jorge Navarro, whose base is at Gulfstream except for late spring and summer at Monmouth Park.
Jaramillo, a native of Venezuela, led Gulfstream jockeys in wins at this year’s spring meet. Gaffalione, a native of Davie, Fla., led last year’s Gulfstream summer meet in wins.
