Gulfstream: Rainy Day Ahead forPegasus

Rain has been falling during the early morning around South Florida, and that means that weather likely will impact today's Pegasus Day card at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach

At 7:45  a.m,, a woman who answered the general phone number at Gulfstream had a window view and said rain had stopped but that skies remain overcast/

It is raining hard where we are in Fort Lauderdale.

We are heading down to Gulfstream  and will have periodic reports during the day on this blog.

TheWeather Channel forecast is for a chance of rain of at least 50 percent through the early evening hours.

Scheduled post is 5:36 p.m. for the $9 million Pegasus Invitational, at 1 1.8 miles on dirt.  Look for that track  to be sealed and listed as Muddy or Sloppy.

Past performances show that Patternrecognition, trained by Chad Brown, has the best credentials on races where the conditions were less than fast,  He has two wins in two such starts.

But other factors point against Patternrecognition.  He has a gate-to-wire style,  But he has post 12, from where it is extremely difficult  to win at Gulfstream.

A big question  will be whether the day's five turf stakes races will stay on that surface.
