From Gulfstream Park
Jockeys Edgard Zayas and Tyler Gaffalione took off their mounts Thursday at Gulfstream Park, but both are expected to return to riding as early as Friday.
Zayas, the leading rider at the Fall Turf Festival at Gulfstream Park West, was unseated in the gate before the fourth race aboard Summer Chant and was taken to and released from Memorial Regional Hospital after complaining of a headache. The jockey's agent, Tito Fuentes, said Thursday morning Zayas has no serious injuries and could return as early as Friday.
Gaffalione, the leading rider during Gulfstream's summer meet and an Eclipse Award candidate as the nation's top apprentice, was taken to Memorial Regional when he was unseated in the fifth race aboard Sweet Summer Sweat and complained of knee and arm pain. Gaffalione was released and, like Zayas, suffered no injuries.
"Just some bumps and bruises," said Gaffalione's agent Walter Blum Jr. "We just took off today to let him chill a day. We'll be back [Friday]."
