Turf Racing is back in the spotlight at Gulfstream Park today, and we'll be among those trying to spot some trends.
Is speed holding up? What about post positions? Any differences in how races shape up on the inner and outer rails? How are the year-round South Florida horses faring against the tough invaders from the north? Which snowbird trainers appear to have horses cranked up for early meet turf racing?
The recent heavy rains are history. For the second day in a row the course is listed as firm (finally).
Today, there are four remaining turf races--two at 7 1/2 furlongs and two at one mile. All have 12 entrants. These races attract large betting pools and they are the bread and butter of Gulfstream's championship meet.
We'll be watching the fifth, loping to get a few lessons.
Then we will handicap the day's last three races.
