Fear the Cowboy, coming off a stakes win at Gulfstream Park, is literally a horse to be feared by rivals in Wednesday’s feature race at Tampa Bay Downs.
It is the second race, with scheduled post of 12:57 p.m. There are seven entrants for the allowance/optional claimer, with a $24,000 purse, at one mile and 40 yards on dirt for 3-year-olds and up,
It will be one of nine races, with a first post of 12:27 p.m., at the Oldsmar.
Fear the Cowboy, a 3-year-old colt, will make his first start since Sept. 22 when he won the $75,000
Fear the Cowboy rallied from fifth place after a half mile and beat Aces for John by 3 1/4 lengths. Sing Praises finished third in the string eight-horse field.
Two medical procedures were performed on Fear the Cowboy since January: an undescended testicle was removed and a tie-back procedure was performed to correct a breathing issue. Fear the Cowboy was also given time to grow into his strapping frame.
*Three of today’s races are scheduled for turf.
The chance of rain is just 20 percent in the Tampa Bay area. That makes it likely that Tampa Bay Downs’s good fortune with the weather will continue.
It has averaged three turf races per day in seven race days since Nov. and has not had been forced to move any of them to dirt.
