HorseracingFLA Staff Report
Tyler Gaffalione rode four winners at Gulfstream Park on Wednesday, and across the state Antonio Gallardo rode four winners at Tampa Bay Downs.
Gaffalione will get a chance to add to his hot streak this afternoon, when he will have eight mounts at Gulfstream. The Hallandale Beach track will have ten races with first post at 12:35 p.m.
Gaffalione has seven winners in eight race days and is in second place in the jockey standings at Gulfstream’s 2015-2016 championship meet. Four-time defending champion Javier Castellano leads with 12 wins. John Velazquez is third with six victories.
Gaffalione led in wins at this year’s spring meet and summer meet at Gulfstream, when he was still an apprentice with a five-pound weight allowance in races other than stakes.
Tampa Bay does not have racing today. On Friday, it will have a nine-race card with first post of 12:28 p.m. Gallardo has mounts in all nine races.
One of Gallardo’s winning Wednesday rides was on Act of Madness in the featured second race–an allowance at one mile and 40 yards on dirt for 3-year-olds and up.
Act of Madness took the early lead and beat the stretch-running Fear the Cowboy by 6 ¼ lengths. Act of Madness won in the fast time of 1:40.11 on a track listed as fast.
Jamie Ness trains Act of Madness for Midwest Thoroughbreds. Act of Madness is a 5-year-old gelded son of Act of Duty.
