Gulfstream Mandatory Rainbow 6 Pays $61,593

Gulfstream Park had a mandatory payout on its Rainbow 6 on Sunday, and each ticket with all six winning horses won $61,593.78 on a 20-cent bet.

There were 73 winning tickets, according to HorseRacingFLA's review of Equibase charts.

The winning horses, with program numbers in parentheses and $2 win prices were:

6th Race:    (5)      Pseudonym $10.20

7th Race:    (4)      Flawless Moon $8.40

8th Race:    (11)  Heir Ball $17.20

9th Race:     (4)     Worth Avenue $10.80

10th Race:   (2)     Sensible Myth $20

11th Race:    (2)    Passion Plus $15

The coming-in carryover, built up over 21 racing days, was $1,137,735.

Bettors added $4,159,821 to the Rainbow 6,  which is a 20 cents per combination-only bet. We had projected that Sunday's betting on the Rainbow 6 would be more than $5 million.

After taking out 20 percent of the day's Rainbow 6 bet, Gulfstream divided 80 percent and the entire carryover among tickets with six winners.

Gulfstream usually makes that jackpot payout only on days when there is just one ticket with all six winners.

On most days, it takes out 20 percent of the Rainbow 6 bet and then divides 56 percent among tickets with six winners and ads 24 percent to the carryover.

It usually schedules a mandatory payout when the carryover approaches $1 million.  That provides a chance for big payouts, like this Sunday's, for bettors who regularly play the Rainbow 6.

Gulfstream will have a new Rainbow 6 pool when it resumes racing on Thursday.

It is guaranteeing that the pool will be at least $100,000 if there is just one ticket with all six winners.  If that happens and Rainbow 6  wagering is less than $100,000, Gulfstream will put in the difference.

The Thursday card will have nine races, with first post of 12:00 p.m. The Rainbow 6 will be on races four to nine, with the sequence scheduled to start at 1:30 p.m.

The first race will have a carryover of $3,665 on the Super Hi-5.
