Florida Sire Stakes Series Begins Today; Gulfstream Awaits Impact of Isaias

Officials of Gulfstream Park and fans betting off-site around  the  country are hoping that Hurricane Isaias will not disrupt Saturday's racing at the Hallandale Beach, Fla., track.

Gulfstream is heading into the fifth race of its 11-race Saturday card.

As of 1:30 p.m., skies are partly cloudy at and around Gulfstream, and winds have picked up to over 20 mph. The dirt track is listed as Fast and the turf is listed as Good following a brief late-morning storm.

The forecast is that heavy rains and winds above 25 m.p.h. should start arriving late in the afternoon or early in the evening on Saturday.

A landfall in the  Miami-Fort Lauderdale area is not in the forecast.  But tropical storm or Grade 1 hurricane conditions could persist from late Saturday night into Sunday afternoon.

The Saturday co-features are the ninth race $100,000 Desert Vixen, for two-year old fillies, and the tenth race $100,000 Dr. Fager, for two-year-old males.

Both are six furlongs on dirt and are the first two legs of the Florida Sire Stakes series. Scheduled posts for the two stakes races are 4:14 p.m. and 4:49  p.m.

We will have previews prior  to  3:00 p.m. on this blog.

The carryover on Saturday's Rainbow 6 is $820,551.  The 20-cents per combination bet is on races six to eleven with the sequence  set to start at 2:34 p.m.

Gulfstream is guaranteeing that the jackpot pool  (full carryover plus 80 percent of the day's Rainbow 6 bets) will be at least $1.1 million if there is just one ticket with the winners of all six Rainbow 6  races.

If there are multiple winning Rainbow 6 tickets, Gulfstream will take out 20 percent of the day's Rainbow 6 bet.  It will then divide 56 percent among tickets with six winners and add 24 percent to the carryover.

Gulfstream had scheduled this Sunday as a day for a mandatory payout of the Rainbow  6 jackpot--no matter the number of tickets with all six winners.

Because of concerns about Hurricane Isaias, Gulfstream has postponed that payout until next Sunday Aug. 9.

This Sunday, Gulfstream is planning a ten-race card with first post of 12:00 p.m.  If it makes any changes in that schedule we will report on them.

Gulfstream remains closed to spectators and has no on-track wagering due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fans may bet on Gulfstream races via most major Advance Deposit Wagering (ADW) services and at some OTB offices, sports books and simulcast rooms of other race tracks.
