Edgard Zayas rode five winners and
Luca Panici rode three winners on Friday at Gulfstream Park.
Jesus Rios was the winning jockey in
the other race on the nine-race card.
Zayas’ big day followed a three-win
day on Thursday.
Through Friday’s card he has 49 wins
through 48 days of Gulfstream’s summer meet.
That puts him second, behind runaway leader Tyler Gaffalione who has
ridden 76 winners during the meet.
Emisael Jaramillo is third with 42
wins, followed by Panici with 41.
Zayas, a 24-year-old native of
Puerto Rico, is in second place even though he was sidelined with injuries
during the first two weeks of the summer meet that began on July 1. He
sustained broken ribs, a vertebra fracture and a sprain in his left knee in a
May 25 spill at Gulfstream and did not resume riding in races until July 16.
