After a busy two-track day here are highlights of the last three of six stakes races at Florida's tracks:
Tampa Bay
* Tepin set a turf course record for 1 1/8 miles in winning the Hillsborough Stakes (Grade 2) for fillies and mares 4-YO and up.
Tepin trailed loose leader Isabella Sings by 13 lengths after three-quarters of a mile. She then staged a Zenyatta-like rally and won by a length.
The Eclipse Award winning Tepin was clocked in 1:46.26. She broke the record of 1:46.55 set by Special Envoy in winning an allowance/optional claiming race on March 18, 2015.
Regular jockey Julien Leparoux rode Tepin for trainer Mark Casse.
*Destin beat his stablemate Outlook by a length in the $350,000 Tampa Bay Derby (Grade 2) at 1 1/16 miles on dirt for 3-YOs.
Both colts are trained by Todd Pletcher.
Destin was ridden by Javier Castellano and won in the fast time of 1:42.82. John Velazquez rode Outlook.
Destin earned 50 qualifying points for the Kentucky Derby (Grade 1) which will be run May 7 at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky. That should assure him a spot in the 20-horse field.
Outlook earned 20 points, which might be enough to get into the Kentucky Derby.
Gulfstream Park
Miss Matzoball won the $75,000 Captiva Island at five furlongs on turf for fillies and mares 4-YO and up. She was followed by Katie's Kiss and Jewel of a Cat.
On Sunday morning, we will have more details on the Tampa Bay Derby on this blog and on our Web sitehttp://www.horseracingfla.com/
