Wednesday, Oct. 7 — Gulfstream Park this afternoon will open its 2015 Gulfstream Park West meet, at the Miami Gardens track that is still officially known as Calder Casino & Race Course.
There will be ten races with first time of 1:15 p.m. None of the races are stakes.
The GP West meet will begin with six days of racing through Monday Oct. 12–Columnbus Day. Otherwise there will be a five-day Wednesday through Sunday schedule.
The 41-day meet will end on Nov. 29. It will be followed by the 2015-2016 Gulfstream championship meet that will begin on Dec. 7 at Gulfstream in Hallandale Beach.
Gulfstream Is running the GP West meet under a lease agreement with Calder that extends through the end of 2020.
As HorseracingFLA reported on Tuesday, the Calder racing building will not be open to the public during the GP West meet. Gulfstream has set up two tents outside the building with stations for mutuel clerks and automated betting terminals.
We will be at GP West this afternoon for coverage.
* Gulfstream announced on Tuesday that its daily average all-sources handle rose 16 percent from $3,799,994 to $4,421,144 for its summer meet. The 55 day meet ran from July 1 to Oct. 3.
On Thursday, we will have additional information on Gulfstream handle.
