HorseracingFLA Staff Report
Conditions are fast and firm at the Gulfstream Park West meet today for an eight-race card that got underway at 1:15 p.m.
Gulfstream Park is holding the GP West meet at Calder under a lease arrangement with that track.
For bettors and other fans, today also is a day to prepare for the two stakes races that GP West will have on Saturday and for the simulcasts of Breeders’ Cup races on Friday and Saturday.
Saturday’s GP West stakes are the $75,000 Showing Up at one mile on turf for 3-year-old males and the $75,000 Cellars Shiraz at one mile on turf for 3-year-old fillies.
We will have previews of both races on Saturday morning, and stories with detailed results on Saturday evening
The Breeders’ Cup races will be this Friday and Saturday at Keeneland in Lexington, Ky.
Starting this afternoon we will have previews of Breeders’ Cup races with a focus on horses whose trainers and owners have close ties to Gulfstream Park and to Tampa Bay Downs.
This is in keeping with our mission of continually covering Florida horse racing, including stories that other media outlets might not be covering extensively or covering at all.
Our stories will be on this Web site and on our blog’
